About us
Who we are
The Motherless Mothers is a UK-based charity dedicated to supporting women raising children without the presence, support, or guidance of their own mothers - whether by circumstance or choice. We create community spaces—both online and in-person—where women can find connection, understanding, and a sense of belonging.
Our culture and values
Our work focuses on peer support, empowerment, and advocacy. We provide community groups and programmes, events, digital resources and training designed to reduce isolation, change the conversation and lift the unique experience of mothering without a mother out of the darkness. As we grow, we continue to elevate the voices of motherless mothers everywhere and build partnerships that amplify the voices of millions of women who are often overlooked and unseen.
Equality, diversity and inclusion policy
At The Motherless Mothers, diversity and inclusion are at the heart of our community and the work we do. We recognise that there is no single experience of motherhood, and that becoming a mother without the presence or support of your own mother can take many different forms. Our community is built to welcome and support women from all backgrounds, identities, and life circumstances.
We exist to support mothers who are navigating parenthood without their own mothers – whether through bereavement, illness, estrangement, absence, or complex family dynamics. This shared experience intersects with a wide range of personal identities and lived realities, including differences in culture, race, socioeconomic background, family structure, sexuality, and mental health. We are committed to ensuring that every member of our community feels seen, heard, and valued.
Inclusive Community
We actively foster a safe, compassionate, and non-judgemental space where women can share their stories openly. By providing peer-to-peer support, events, workshops, and storytelling platforms, we amplify voices that are often unheard and create meaningful connections between mothers who may otherwise feel isolated.
