About us
Who we are
The Country Land and Business Association (CLA) is a membership organisation that advocates for rural businesses and landowners in the UK. Founded in 1907, we have been a strong voice for rural interests for over a century. We represent a diverse range of rural businesses, from farmers to rural entrepreneurs, and are committed to promoting the economic, social, and environmental issues of rural areas. We also provide a range of services and support to our members, including legal and regulatory advice and business development support. We do this so our members can feed the nation, create jobs and prosperity, invest in communities and protect the environment for future generations.
Working closely with English and Welsh government, we ensure that rural interests are considered in policy and regulation development. We promote the benefits of the rural economy and rural living through events and activities that raise awareness of the vital role rural businesses and communities play in the UK economy.
We also operate the CLA's Charitable Trust, which supports rural communities and businesses in the UK through funding and partnerships. It works to promote sustainable rural development, improve access to education and training, and enhance rural heritage and landscapes.
We are a non-profit organisation, with just over 100 members of staff, who are based all around England and Wales in seven different office locations: Central London, South East, South West, East, Midlands, North and Wales.
