About the role
As a member of the Advancement Office leadership team, your primary focus will be to directly manage a high-performing Philanthropy Team. The team works to attract major and transformational gifts from individuals, companies, charitable trusts, and other philanthropic sources. You will work closely with the Director of Advancement and Director of Philanthropy in supporting and developing the Philanthropy Team to achieve agreed fundraising strategy priorities and targets.
Both externally and internally, you will lead by example, with an organised and efficient approach to the philanthropic process, ensuring the Philanthropy Team are entirely focused on delivering results. On occasion, you may manage a portfolio of strategically important relationships, which will focus on historical support, or be of great non-philanthropic importance to the University.

Strathclyde would like to appoint an early career fundraiser to the role of Alumni Fund Officer, working within its established and successful Alumni and Development team. This role will deliver fundraising programmes to support the University’s Alumni Fund – a fund which is championed by many thousands of our graduates, and which supports the whole student experience.
You will deliver a range of fundraising projects including an annual student telethon campaign, direct mail, and digital projects (including Giving Day campaigns). Working across the University, you will develop close and supportive relationships with senior staff and talented students alike.

We are looking for a talented fundraiser, with a background in the cultural sector to join the Gardens, Libraries & Museums (GLAM) Team within the Development and Alumni Engagement team of the University of Oxford.
You will be working with such iconic institutions as the Pitt Rivers Museum, the Oxford Botanic Gardens, the History of Science Museum and the Oxford University Museum of Natural History. In this role in any given week you might see a dodo, extraordinary thousand-year old Chinese ceramics, insects collected by Darwin, the first scientifically described dinosaur and drawings by John Ruskin, as well as work on projects involving saving the largest flower in the world or supporting world-leading restitution work.
The collections are important and renowned on their own accounts, but also play a key role in the University’s research. In addition, they are the open doors to the University of Oxford, encouraging a diverse range of communities to engage our academics and curators.
Your role will include fundraising for major gifts to support the museums and gardens, and leading a team of fundraisers who will work to support a wide range of activities across the institutions. Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTPs) are a unique UK-wide activity that help businesses to improve their competitiveness and productivity by making better use of the knowledge, technology and skills within universities, colleges and research organisations.
THE PROJECT
The University of Essex in partnership with We are the Minories (WATM), an arts charity and gallery in a historic townhouse in Colchester, offers an exciting opportunity to a graduate with the relevant skills and knowledge to develop a data led and long-term strategic plan, to enhance WATM’s growth.
The associate will work with WATM’s managers and University of Essex academic supervisors to ensure WATM's sustainable and prosperous future while keeping their community ethos and values at the heart of their activities. This will be achieved through four key strategies:
- Developing innovative solutions to evaluate and measure the social impact of WATM’s activities to enhance its success rates in funding applications.
- Introducing business model innovations to support WATM in improving its income generation, such as through new product/service development (e.g., consultancy) and exploring additional income-generating activities like leveraging its physical space.
- Enhancing WATM’s capabilities in managing both social and economic missions and supporting them in sharing their knowledge through consultancy to third-party organisations.

DUTIES OF THE POST

- Conduct literature reviews and summarise findings for a non-academic audience.

About the Role
The main duties of this post will be the provision of high quality and efficient project management for the Senior Leadership team, including:
- Developing fundraising proposals, briefings and supporting materials for the SLT to use to promote funding opportunities to potential donors.
- Collating information and materials to provide reports for the SLT and other senior officers within the Pro Vice Chancellors’ and Vice Chancellor’s offices as needed for donor and volunteer cultivation, solicitations, stewardship and events.
- Managing donor reporting for key donors, liaising with academics and other key stakeholders to draft reports to donors.
- Providing follow-up to any initiative which members of the SLT thinks must be tracked but which does not fall within the remit of any of the Development and Alumni Engagement teams, prompting members of the team about action as needed.
To Be Successful You’ll Need:
- Experience of providing a high level of project support in a fast-paced, complex organisation, ideally in a higher education or development environment
- An ability to act independently and decisively when the situation demands it. Good judgement and the ability to acquire the knowledge necessary to support the task in hand in a timely manner
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, including a good command of the English language; the ability to be highly creative in producing materials and to understand how to articulate projects
