About us

Who we are

Barnsley CVS is a charitable organisation who is passionate about supporting the voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) sector across Barnsley.  Barnsley CVS is the key infrastructure body for the area with trusted contracts with the council and ICB to deliver specialist services and support to ensure the VCSE sector is connected, supported and empowered.

Our work includes:

Capacity building support for community groups

Barnsley CVS provides a wider range of activities to ensure VCSE groups in Barnsley have the support they need.  This ranges from 1-1 advice and guidance, resources and guides to run organisations, an accountancy and payroll team, training and workshops and support and connection to funding opportunities.  Our support and guidance ranges from topics such as start-up, governance, strategy, volunteer and staff management, policies and procedures, finances and fundraising.

Volunteering development

Barnsley’s volunteer centre is delivered by Barnsley CVS.  Through the volunteer centre we provide a one stop platform for adverts and recruitment, 1-1 support for individuals to identify and apply for opportunities, organisational guidance on best practice, a volunteer coordinators partnership and delivering particular programmes around young volunteering and inclusive volunteering.

Partnerships and strategic representation

In order for services in Barnsley to be delivered effectively and efficiently, it is important that the statutory, private and VCSE sector are well connected.  Barnsley CVS assist in convening partnerships and alliances to ensure all voices are heard and play a role in the co-design of service delivery across Barnsley.

Barnsley CVS also plays a key role in representing the sector at local and regional boards of influence, ensuring that the VCSE sector is considered during wider and long-term planning activities.

Fund delivery

Barnsley CVS acts as a fund manager when there are local grants that need to be administered by a non-statutory body.  We ensure that any fund application processes are designed in a fair and inclusive way that allows for creativity and, where possible, sustainability.

Community venues

Barnsley CVS provides venues for community activities at Redfearns Community and Sports Centre and within a community space in town centre in the core CVS office space.
