About us
Who we are
Our dedicated clinical team within Winchester Hospice works to ensure that every patient is able to live their life as fully as possible in an environment that enhances well-being and privacy.
To fully support our patients, we offer:
-
A ten bed inpatient unit
-
Community service
-
Psychology service
-
Complementary therapies
To offer these services, we have a close working partnership with Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, community and hospital teams, as well as community care teams and GPs. We support those directly in Winchester and in a number of surrounding villages.
Patients and their families will never be asked to pay for any of the care that they receive from Winchester Hospice. The cost of this care is all covered thanks to the NHS trust and Winchester Hospice Fundraising Charity.
Winchester Hospice is proud to be part of Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust but a proportion of our funding also comes from charitable giving - and that proportion is increasing as the need for our care continues to grow.
Those joining our charity team do so at an exciting time, as we embark on an ambitious plan to significantly increase donations to the charity, building on the hugely successful first five years, since the hospice was built.
Our culture and values
Winchester Hospice is run and managed by Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. We are also supported by the Winchester Hospice Fundraising Charity who work to support and raise funds to ensure our hospice care can continue for decades to come.
Hampshire Hospital’s vision and objectives are underpinned by their ICARE values, which are embraced by Winchester Hospice and the charity. These are:
INCLUSIVE, valuing and celebrating everyone's diversity and experiences
Compassion, caring about our patients, their families, staff, supporters, and volunteers
Accountable and responsible, always improving
Respect for all
Encouraging and challenging each other to always do our best
Equality, diversity and inclusion policy
Winchester Hospice Fundraising Charity has asdopted the Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust policy for equality, diversity and inclusion. We are committed to providing an environment where all employees, patients, relatives, carers, volunteers, visitors and contractors can be employed, cared for, welcomed, involved, valued, respected and treated in a consistent and non-discriminatory manner. We are committed to embedding and progressing equality, diversity and inclusivity principles across all aspects of hospice and charity life including employment, service provision, community engagement and monitoring.
Our policy and procedure will be applied with fairness and consistency to all employees, service users, relatives, carers, volunteers, contractors, staff from other organisations working on our premises, and members of the public. It is designed to protect and uphold the rights of all individuals, irrespective of protected characteristics as defined by the Equality Act 2010. These characteristics include age, disability, gender reassignment, race, religion or belief, sex, sexual orientation, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity. For employees, this policy also applies irrespective of length of service, whether full or part-time or employed under a permanent or a fixed-term contract, irrespective of job role or seniority within the organisation. The policy applies to all staff during working hours and outside working hours when attending formal workplace functions when the charity retains an employer’s liability for the actions of its staff. In cases where an employee, service user, relative, carer, volunteer, contractor, members of staff from other organisations working on premises or member of the public, has difficulty in communicating, whether verbally or in writing, appropriate arrangements will be put in place to ensure that the processes outlined in this policy are fully understood. These arrangements aim to prevent any disadvantage to the individual during the application of this policy. Consistent with the provisions of the Equality Act 2010, the charity is committed to making reasonable adjustments to the processes outlined in the policy, where failure to do so would result in a disadvantage to an individual with a disability. This ensures equal opportunities and fair treatment for all individuals throughout the application of this policy
