NEON is recruiting for new board members and co-chairs. Shape and support NEON’s work with social movements by joining our board. 

NEON supports over 1600 organisers and campaigners across the UK working on social, economic and climate justice. This could be anything from anti-racism, to environment and housing activism, and grassroots community organising. We work together to accelerate social movements through training, relationship-building and infrastructure support. We’ve helped a wide range of organisations, campaigns and organising groups win change through building their mobilising, communications reach and messaging.

NEON is looking for two new co-chairs and an additional two board members to join our board as we build and implement our new strategy.

Our board members  should be excited and motivated by NEON’s vision and approach, as well as offering  the time, experience and energy to help NEON thrive. 

We are looking for a team player with experience of finance and fundraising best practice, preferably within the charity sector, to join our Board of Trustees As we continue to expand our services, our new Treasurer will help us to develop our procedures and strategies to ensure we maintain good governance. Applicants must also be prepared to take on the wider responsibilities of becoming a charity Trustee.

​This is a hands on role which requires close working with our CEO, Finance Manager, Chair of Trustees and Accountants. You will help us to review and implement new financial processes and budgeting procedures, develop new investment and fundraising policies and ensure that we operate in line with best practice. As a Trustee you will also contribute to the organisations wider mission and strategy and oversee the running of the Charity.

The Board of Trustees

The CCS Board of Trustees are a group of people who represent a range of diverse backgrounds and skill sets. They have oversight of the charity and make key decisions to help steer strategic direction.

The Board meets six times a year, usually in our main office in Taunton or via Teams.

Each Trustee will commit to an additional (estimated) six hours a month. This time may include consultations and input into a range of issues between meetings, usually via email.

As Treasurer, you will chair our Finance sub-Committee and be available for the annual strategy and budget making cycle.

You will form a close relationship with our Finance Manager and their team, providing stewardship, guidance and support.

This is a voluntary role, but we will meet all relevant expenses. You will be appointed for a term of three years and may usually serve a maximum of two consecutive terms.

Key tasks

• Sign off the Trust’s annual financial accounts, safeguarding the good name and values of the charity, and acting within the law
• Support the Chief Executive and team in the event of a national emergency.

Been There is looking for an enthusiastic and experienced individual to join a small, supportive and dynamic team as a Trustee and Secretary of the board.

What will you be doing?

Main Responsibilities:

● To liaise with the chair and chief executive to plan, arrange and produce agendas and supporting papers for trustee meetings and for drafting the subsequent minutes

● To act as charity secretary and ensure that charity law, and regulatory requirements of reporting and public accountability are complied with

● Ensure that all meetings comply with the requirements of the governing document

● Arranging and administrating trustee meetings and any sub-committees in line with legal, and other regulatory requirements, and in accordance with the governing document

● Advise and guide the board on any legal and regulatory implications of the charity’s strategic plan

● Acting as the custodian of the governing document, in liaison with the trustees, reviewing its appropriateness and monitoring that the charity’s activities reflect the objects set out in the governing document. Also, to act as the holder of statutory registers and books, and other legal and important documents such as insurance policies

● Supporting the trustees in fulfilling their duties and responsibilities, organising trustee induction and ongoing training

● Ensuring the charity’s stationery, including electronic communications (emails, websites etc), orders, invoices, cheques and other relevant documents include all the details required under company law and, if applicable, charity law and/or VAT law

● Plan and prepare the committee meetings and AGM with others as appropriate (planning dates, booking rooms, sending out minutes and other papers

This role is one of two Trustee positions on the Board providing oversight of the Trust’s finances and financial management. In addition to the general duties of trustees (more information here), the role involves:

· Monitoring the financial standing of the charity.

· Ensuring that the charity’s finances are managed responsibly.

· Overseeing the reporting of the financial health of the charity to the Board of Trustees and of the charity’s financial risk-management process.

Specific Finance Responsibilities – in conjunction with the Chair of the Finance Committee

Scrutiny of papers produced by the Head of Finance & Operations (HoFO) and the wider Senior Management Team in the following areas:

Budgeting and strategic financial planning

• Ensure that strategic plans are financially appraised and that implementation plans are aligned with budgets.
• Provide constructive challenge to the annual and longer-term budget and forecasting processes.
• Ensure transparency and accountability in resource allocation.

Management Reporting

• Ensure that a high standard of management accounting is maintained.
• Liaise with the Chair of the Finance Committee to guide the HoFO in the preparation and production of high quality management accounts to the Board.

Statutory Financial Reporting

• Ensure the finalisation of statutory financial accounts by the HoFO in line with charity regulations and statements of recommended practice and the completion of the external audit process. Assist fellow trustees to formally approve the Trustees’ Annual Report and Annual Accounts

Reserves Policy

• Review the reserves policy.

Keep the Board informed regularly of the free reserves position and advise on strategies for coping with changing circumstances.

Governance and Financial Control

• Ensure that proper accounting records are kept, financial resources are controlled, invested and economically spent in line with governance, legal and regulatory requirements.
• Attend quarterly Finance Committee meetings and support the Chair of the Finance Committee in reporting financial matters to the Board of trustees.

Online and in person, our parents’ groups, events, resources, podcasts and talks offer mutual support, information and inspiration to adopters and those considering adoption. The Role

We Are Family is seeking to appoint a committed and motivated Company Secretary who will work closely with the Board of Trustees and play an active part in the governance of the organisation.

This is a voluntary opportunity with associated Trustee expenses -  such as travel / childcare -  covered by We Are Family.  The Company Secretary can be based anywhere in the UK. 

Commitment

• We Are Family typically holds four Board meetings per year

• In addition to being involved in Board meetings, the Secretary should expect to spend 8-10 hours each month on work related to the governance of the charity.

• The normal term of appointment for a Secretary is three years, after which there is the opportunity to renew for a further three-year period. 

Skills and Experience 

In this role you will:

• Work directly with the Chair and Deputy Chair to organise and plan for regular Board meetings, producing agendas and a supporting pack of Board papers

• Ensure minutes are taken at the Trustee Board meetings and circulated in a timely manner

• Take an active role in the governance of the Charity, ensuring that the company complies with its governing document, Charity Law, Charity Commission, and other relevant legislation

• Arrange for filings to be submitted to the Charity Commission in accordance with statutory deadlines

• Liaise with Committee Chairs to collect and distribute Committee meeting notes to the Board of Trustees 

• Maintain and update statutory records including annual returns, report, and accounts, and changes to the trustee membership.

This role would suit an individual with:

• Knowledge and experience of charity governance and management

• Experience in a compliance, risk or business management role

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

• Organisation skills, with the ability to work to deadlines

• Good IT skills, to include Zoom and Google Suite or MS Office.

Background Information

Founded in 1991, Respond is a national charity that seeks to transform the lives of people with learning disabilities and autistic people who have experienced trauma. We are committed to bringing about positive change for our clients and their families, enabling them to lead richer and more resilient lives.

Respond's services for children, young people and adults are:

• Survivors' psychotherapy 

• Family support services 

• Advocacy, including ISVA and domestic abuse services.

• Training, consultancy and reflective practice

Respond supports charities that campaign for equality and inclusion with the aim to prevent abuse and equip individuals and their families to come to terms with their experiences and live more positive lives. 

Our specialist training, supervision, reflective practice and consultancy equips agencies and health / social care providers to deliver trauma-informed services. This includes responding to and providing consultancy and training for significant events such as institutional abuse.

Our income base is diverse with trust funds and grants continuing to be a vital part of maintaining core services Respond offers, alongside donations from trusts and foundations. We also continue to have larger ongoing or spot contracts for our work for NHS commissioners and local authorities.

It is a good opportunity to join Respond's Board at this time, following our restructure and as we move towards the last year of our current strategy for 2022-25. Following a challenging period due to changing funding landscape and closure of some services, we will be focused on consolidation and improving impact measurement to secure long-term financial sustainability. 

The role of the Board of Trustees

The Trustees (or 'Board members') are trustees of the charity and directors of the limited company. They are responsible for the governance, setting the strategic direction and monitoring the implementation of the strategy. The Board ensures that the charity acts in accordance with relevant laws and regulations.

The Board has responsibility for: 

• ensuring the charity acts in accordance with its charitable purpose and is providing public benefit and meets its legal obligations; 

• making decisions in the best interests of the charity; 

• developing the multi-year strategy; 

• monitoring the management of the finances and resources of the organisation (operations, budget, property, workforce and tenders); 

• monitoring performance, quality and impact;

• appointing and appraising the CEO. 

Who we’re looking for 

Following a recent skills audit within the current Board, the Board is seeking trustees with the following skills or experiences;

• Finance - This person will have a financial qualification and will enable the Board to ensure the sound financial health of the charity. The person will collaborate with the Finance Director to ensure that the organisation has systems that meet sector best practice and ensures financial accountability. This trustee will be the Treasurer and chair the Finance Committee.

• Human Resources (HR) - This person will have experience in working in HR roles, preferably in the voluntary sector. This person will help review and strengthen Respond’s HR policies, set up and lead the people committee and guide the Leadership team in dealing with complex HR issues including change management. 

• Fundraising, Marketing and Comms – This person will work closely with our Head of Development and Commissioning on our income strategy and communications strategy.

• Psychotherapy /working in a trauma informed setting – As an organisation providing psychotherapy and arts therapies for autistic people and people with learning disabilities, we are looking for a trustee with experience of working as a therapist with a systems-psychodynamic approach.

The Board wants to ensure that the charity's 'beneficiaries' are represented in its governance. We encourage applications from people who have lived experience of autism, learning disabilities and/or trauma-informed work (either directly or through family members).  How the Board carries out meetings will also be reviewed to accommodate adjustments requested by new trustees with learning disabilities or who are autistic. Time requirement - What is involved? 

Trustees attend eight Board meetings per year approximately every six-eight weeks currently on a Tuesday evening 5:30pm to 8pm. Meetings are in London, and remote access is available for trustees who live/work outside London.

Each Trustee is expected to be an active member of the Respond community, committing 5 to 10 hours per month to the charity which may also involve being on a sub-committee such as; Finance Committee, Clinical Governance and Safeguarding Committee each of which meets four times per year, typically during normal office hours online or in London.

Trustees are expected to attend an induction session at Respond prior to their first Board meeting. Trustees are expected to attend all Board meetings. Other meetings are away-days over a weekend.

Trustees are invited to the annual general meeting, which takes place typically in November.

Trustees may claim expenses incurred in effectively carrying out their duties, in accordance with Respond’s Trustee Expenses Policy. 

Papers are distributed one week in advance of meetings. In addition, Trustees are expected to review documents and communicate with other board members and senior staff between meetings. Every effort will be made to ensure that trustees with learning disabilities or who are neurodiverse have access to documents in formats that they can understand or have the support available for them to fully participate as trustees.

Occasionally, circumstances may require urgent meetings (either face-to-face or virtual) to examine strategic issues or items requiring Board approval 

Duration of the role 

Board terms are for a five-year term following which the person can be elected to serve another three years.

KidsAid is a charity supporting children affected by trauma. We seek a Standards & Compliance Lead to assist the board in establishing, and monitoring compliance with ethical, professional, and clinical standards.

To lead the Standards and Compliance Subcommittee in providing oversight on behalf of the board in:

• Monitoring the experience of, and standard of service provided to, those who benefit from, or otherwise deal with KidsAid, and make recommendations for change where necessary.
• Ensuring compliance with ethical, professional, and Clinical standards relevant to KidsAid’s beneficiaries.
• Monitoring organisational culture, policies, and processes to maximise safeguarding of all for whom KidsAid are responsible.
• Monitoring and keeping under review the values of the board in the context of service delivery.
• Adopting, monitoring, and updating where necessary, a scheme of delegation.
• Overseeing the management of the risk register. Identifying new risks, assessing, monitoring, and mitigating existing risks, and escalating high-level risks to the Board.
• Monitoring and auditing compliance with all relevant legal obligations, including assessing the likely effect of proposed changes to the law.
• Monitoring, compliance with the charitable objects of KidsAid, the constitution, terms of reference of the board and sub committees, and making recommendations to the board where necessary.
• Reviewing alternative national quality accreditation schemes, and making recommendations to the board, monitoring progress in achieving any agreed scheme.
• Monitoring and auditing compliance with Contracts, and tendering processes.
• Maintaining an overview of Due Diligence assessments, whether applied internally or externally.
• Evaluating advisory Codes relevant to KidsAid and making recommendations to the board for change where necessary.
• Periodically review the Charity’s impact measuring, evaluation, and data.
• Ensure that our data capture systems are fit for purpose now and in the future.

What are we looking for?

We are seeking a Standards and Compliance Lead with the following qualities:

• An understanding of due diligence and charity standards.
• Analytical skills and the ability to interpret and work with a range of data and information and evaluate compliance.
• A willingness to be available to the CEO and staff for advice and enquiries on an ad hoc basis.

The lead trustee for standards and compliance will be responsible for the following duties in addition to the wider responsibilities of a trustee.

Our mission is to help and support homeless and vulnerably housed people in and around the London Borough of Merton. We operate a twice-weekly Drop-in, currently welcoming 50-60 individuals each day, while our Winter Night Shelter provides a warm, dry place to sleep every night during the coldest nights of the year – this winter from 4 December until 10 March 2024.

Our current Secretary is retiring, having completed the maximum of nine years in the role. We’re now looking for an enthusiastic and committed volunteer for the role which covers the following positions:

1. Company secretary
2. Secretary to the Trustees

The current incumbent fulfils both roles but we would consider splitting the responsibilities if two complementary applications were received.

The Company Secretary & Secretary is a volunteer with an active role in the work of the organisation. The Faith in Action Merton Homelessness Project (FIAMHP) Board of Trustees, Company Secretary & Secretary, together with senior staff, form the Management Committee of the Charity.

Company Secretary’s responsibilities:

The Company Secretary keeps the organisation legal by:

• Working with Trustees to ensure that the Charity complies with its Articles of Association, charity law, company law, employment law, and any other relevant legislation or regulations.

• Ensuring that the Trustees are aware of the requirement to comply with relevant codes such as the Code of Conduct for Charity Trustees and the Charities Governance Code, and that these are adhered to.

• Ensuring that the Articles of Association reflect the current work of the Charity, liaising with the Charity Commission and Companies House as appropriate if an update is needed.

• Liaison with Treasurer as needed.

• Filing annual Confirmation Statements and other Company Returns including the annual Trustees Report & Accounts with Companies House and the Charity Commission by the due dates.

• Advising Companies House and the Charity Commission of changes to Company and Charity details by the due dates – this includes Trustee appointments and resignations.

• Maintaining the statutory records.

• Monitoring the composition of the Trustee board, and liaising with the Chair and other Trustees to ensure that new Trustees are recruited as necessary, so that all roles needed are covered. Organising new Trustee applications and interviews, and obtaining references.

• Organising and running the Annual General Meeting, and any other General Meetings required.

• Any other duties which may reasonably arise.

Secretary’s duties

The job of the FIAMHP Secretary is to assist the Trustees in the smooth running of the organisation by:

• Organising Management Committee meetings in consultation with the Chair and other Trustees: setting meeting dates and venues; producing meeting agendas, receiving and sending out meeting notices and papers, checking that meetings are quorate, taking meeting minutes, liaising with the Chair and other Trustees as necessary; sending out draft minutes.

• Assist with liaison between Trustees, Staff and Volunteers as needed.

• Awareness of the work of the organisation and the needs of its guests and service users.

• Ensuring that decisions and actions of the Board of Trustees are accurately recorded and implemented.

• Maintaining an appropriate and secure filing system so that all Trustee papers are retained and accessible.

• Assisting with Business Plan development and the Trustees’ Annual Report as required.

• Ensuring that Policies and Risk Register are filed and accessible to all who need access.

• Tracking progress with implementation of the organisation’s Business Plan.

• Ensuring that any correspondence for Trustees is brought to the attention of the Board.

• Any other duties which may reasonably arise.

The Company Secretary and Secretary must have:

About the Role

The Bridge Project is a well-established Bradford based charity with over 35 years’ experience delivering services and projects addressing a range of issues such as substance misuse, risk taking behaviours, relationships, housing, physical/mental health, and employment. We work with individuals, families, partners, and communities to improve people’s lives in a sustainable way, empowering people experiencing multiple barriers to achieve positive change.

We currently employ over 120 staff, 40% of whom are ‘experts by experience’ and have joined us through our volunteering programme.  We are recognised as being innovative and recovery focused, and our services have been highlighted nationally  as examples of best practice in the sector. Our portfolio of services and projects are constantly evolving in response to the changing needs of our service users and our local communities. Currently this includes recovery focussed drug treatment services, housing and resettlement support, access to education, training, and employment (ETE), volunteering programmes, support for people engaged with criminal justice services and befriending/mentoring services for people with significant barriers to recovery and community reengagement.

What will you be doing?

Our Trustees play a pivotal role in governing the Bridge Project.  They are responsible for setting our strategic vision and priorities, ensuring our financial sustainability, and providing guidance and oversight to our operations. Our Trustees play a vital role in making sure that the Bridge Project achieves its core purpose. They oversee the overall management and administration of the charity. They also ensure that the charity has a clear strategy and that our work and goals are in line with our vision. Just as importantly, they support and challenge the senior leadership team to enable The Bridge Project to grow and thrive, and through this, achieve our mission.

Time Commitment

We ask that you are able to devote time to attend 4 Trustee Board meetings per year, 4 Sub-Committee meetings per year and 1 Planning meeting.  These are a mixture of in-person meetings in Bradford and zoom meetings.  Meetings are currently held in the evening.  Trustees are also encouraged to visit our premises to meet with the staff team and meet the people we support.

You will collectively be responsible for ensuring that the Chief Officer and his team not only grow our services to meet everyone that needs them, but that the service we provide is of the highest quality.  Last year we provided treatment and support to 4,900 individuals.

You will also have an opportunity to expand your knowledge of the voluntary and community sector and give something back to the local community as well as developing new skills.

Worcestershire Association of Carers (WAC) is a well-established charity with passionate staff and volunteers who have a good reputation for delivering. We provide an independent expert source of information, advice and support for the thousands of unpaid adult carers in and around Worcestershire. We understand the role of unpaid carers and the huge contribution they make to the community. We assist carers through a range of personalised services provided directly and through signposting to other sources of help. When carers receive the best possible services available to them, they are empowered to continue caring more effectively, continue to have a life beyond caring and are less likely to suffer health breakdown.

We are looking for an experienced financial manager who is based in a commutable distance from Worcester to join our Board as Treasurer. As well as being a trustee, you will oversee the financial administration of WAC, and advise the Board of Trustees on the Charity’s financial health, liaising with the Chief Executive and Finance Manager.

Our partner challenges poverty and inequality caused by unjust debt, bringing people on the frontline of economic injustice together to lead campaigns and win systemic change to tackle the household debt crisis.

They are seeking a new Treasurer to support their Board of Trustees in meeting their financial obligations. Specific responsibilities include overseeing, approving and presenting budgets, accounts and financial statements and advising on the financial implications of the organisation’s strategic plans.

Experience of being a Treasurer previously is not essential. They are looking for someone who has skills in financial management with a commitment to the vision, mission and values of the organisation.

Board members are expected to attend three board meetings a year in February, June and October. The Treasurer also chairs the Finance and Resources Committee which meets four times a year.

Trustee – Fundraising Representative

The Trustee Role

As a registered charity, our governance and overall leadership rests with our Board of Trustees, who work alongside the Chief Executive and Director team. While membership of the Board is voluntary, and without remuneration (reasonable expenses are paid) it is a highly rewarding experience where Trustees contribute actively, and take significant responsibility for the governance and strategic direction of our organisation. Those already in this role find it extremely fulfilling and are a vital part of the Marwell family. With exciting times ahead, we are looking to complement our existing Board of Trustees with a suitably experienced and highly qualified Fundraising professional. In addition to the generic responsibilities and skills required of Board members, Marwell requires someone who can demonstrate extensive charitable fundraising expertise, at a Director or Chief Executive level. Ideally, they will have relevant experience of fundraising governance, major giving and large-scale capital appeals. This role, like many Board appointments, is non-executive but critical in our overall governance, leadership and understanding of best practice.

Main Duties

• To champion fundraising at Board level.

• To work with the Board, CEO, Directors and senior leadership to embed a culture of fundraising throughout the organisation.

• To provide strategic overview and advise the Board on fundraising governance, compliance and regulation, in support of the senior management team.

• To actively harness the energy and contacts of all trustees to support fundraising initiatives, through appropriate use of their networks, sources and their presence at fundraising and other events.

• To support the fundraising team, as appropriate, on fundraising strategy and activities.

• To support the creation of and take a leading role in a new ‘Development Board’

General

• Participate in supporting and regularly reviewing the strategic aims and operational progress of the organisation.

• Ensure, alongside fellow Trustees, that the policies and practices of the organisation are in keeping with its overall aims and objectives.

• Ensure, alongside fellow Trustees, that the organisation functions within the legal and financial requirements of a charitable organisation and strives to achieve best practice.

• Consider the organisation as a whole and its beneficiaries, whether as a member of the Board or any of its sub-committees.

• Reflect the organisation’s vision and principles, strategy and major policies at all times.

 • Adhere to the Code of Conduct at all times, particularly when exercising the functions of the Trustee, or any of its sub-committees or groups.

• Attend Board meetings and sub-committee meetings where appropriate.

• Be an active member of the Trustee body in exercising its responsibilities and functions.

• Maintain good relations with senior managerial employees.

• Take part in training sessions provided for the benefit of Trustees.

• Fulfil such other duties and assignments as may be required from time to time by the Trustee body.
