Step by Step is a charity that passionately supports young people facing challenging times. Our unique approach, providing accommodation, personal development opportunities, and specialist support, helps young people identify and achieve their aspirations.
Each year, we work with over 1,300 young people aged 11–25. Our team plays a vital role in empowering them and preventing homelessness. We are a positive, dynamic, and professional team, committed to helping young people reach their full potential.
Incorporated in 1989, Step by Step has a long history of supporting young people. We are committed to safeguarding and promoting their welfare and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
The Volunteering Opportunity:
As the first point of contact for all visitors, this is a key volunteering role which makes a huge contribution to the work of Step by Step Partnership. You will help us to provide a welcoming face to all visitors at our Aldershot Office and help us to manage enquiries. This is an unpaid volunteering role.
Duties:
Welcome visitors with appointments, ensuring that they sign in/out
Inform the Youth Support Worker or Counsellor when a young person arrives seeking advice, and keep the customer informed
Take in the post and parcels
Talk to the young people arriving needing support, so that the right support worker can be contacted
Hand out care packages containing food and sanitary products.
What we are looking for:
· Willingness to devote the necessary time and effort
· Ability to volunteer effectively as a member of a team
· Willingness to undertake mandatory training in subjects such as Safeguarding, Equality & Diversity, Health and Safety.
Personal skills and qualities:
· A strong personal commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion
· Able to work in a team
· Empathy
· Patience and good people skills
· Willingness to learn
· A desire to help Young People who are experiencing hard times and a belief in a bright future for them
You do not need previous experience – we will provide a full induction and training
Terms of appointment:
The number of days and hours will be discussed. As a minimum, we would ask for a commitment of 4 hours per week. We need support on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. We are open between 0800 – 1800, so any hours that can be volunteered would be greatly appreciated.
