Data Officer Volunteer Roles

Position Overview 

Based in the coastal town of Fort Dauphin in the southeast of Madagascar, this post will lead on the provision of Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) support and advice to multiple projects across the thematic areas of sustainable livelihoods, education infrastructure, water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH), conservation programmes, with specific focus on Community Health Projects. These will likely include projects on sexual and reproductive health and rights, maternal and child health and emergency food distribution. The successful candidate will work within a combined National and International staff team to refine, develop and lead MEL processes across the organisation. Predominantly office-based in Fort-Dauphin, the MEL Officer will travel occasionally to visit project sites. This exciting post would suit an early-career MEL Officer seeking in-country experience for developing and managing MEL systems. 

Location: Fort Dauphin, Anosy Region, Madagascar

Contract duration: 12 months, with the possibility of extension

Probationary period: 3 months

Contract: Local stipend towards living expenses; £1,000 contribution to flight; £650 contribution to insurance

Primary Responsibilities 

Coordination and oversight of MEL procedures and strategies to ensure progress toward project outcomes on select projects; refinement and development of MEL systems and tools for select community health projects and for projects within the broader organisation; completion of reports, papers and other documents analysing data and summarising findings and support on project reporting; capacity-building for SEED staff and local partners to ensure high-quality MEL that aligns with international standards and best practice. 

Duties and Responsibilities 

1. Lead the design and implementation of rigorous MEL procedures and strategies for select projects and organisational initiatives that incorporates stakeholder feedback, adapt to local needs, and support high-quality implementation in line with ongoing and emerging initiatives. 

2. Develop, adapt and support the usage of MEL tools, such as knowledge, attitude, and practice surveys, and focus group discussion guides to maximise effective data collection. 

3. Support the adaptation of technical information/evidence/MEL findings into audience appropriate formats, for internal and external dissemination which informs future programming and project development. 

4. Oversee data collection, cleansing, management and analysis of data from a range of sources to determine progress towards results for a range of projects. 

5. Coordinate the implementation of MEL tools, particularly using the Kobo toolkit, across the organisation

6. Support the Heads of Programmes to formulate future research strategy, ensuring project MEL captures data adhering to international development indicators. 

7. Identify technical needs and the resources required for successful MEL and make appropriate recommendations given locational and budgetary limitations. 

8. Lead on MEL-related capacity-building for SEED staff and local partners, including providing tailored advice to the Programmes/Implementation team to support MEL procedures, from the development of MEL tools, to analysis and dissemination of findings to support use. 

9. Ensuring quality of project data while promoting a sustainable MEL approach across the organisation, including providing advice and support on strategic direction of MEL at SEED.

10.  Support cross-learning between departments, including leading cross-programmatic MEL processes. 

11.  Ensure all of SEED’s policies and procedures are evident throughout the work of the department, including those for safeguarding, whistleblowing and anti-corruption, and undertake continual training to ensure these are promoted at all times.

12.  Other tasks within the broad outline of the role to support the development of MEL capacity across SEED, agreed in partnership with the Heads of Programmes. 

Person specification 

● Master’s degree in International Development, Research Methods, Statistics, or related field.

● 2-3 years of professional in Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning. 

● Experience in the design, refinement, development and implementation of MEL frameworks for international development and/or community health sectors.

● Experience leading Results-Based Management approaches, including logframe development and refinement (essential). Experience with participatory approaches to MEL is desirable.

● Experience leading MEL-related capacity-building and cross-learning initiatives. 

● Clear, demonstrable understanding of research ethics. 

● Demonstrable experience of coordinating and undertaking data collection and analysis, for both qualitative and qualitative data, including proficiency in Excel. Experience using STATA, SPSS or R is desirable. 

● Experience managing, designing and uploading forms on data collection platforms, such as Kobo, Open Data Kit, or SurveyCTO. 

● Strong ability and desire to work independently and within teams from different economic and cultural backgrounds and across multiple language barriers, and to build capacity across cultures.

● Strong ability to provide leadership and mentorship to direct reports, and others within the organisation. 

● Demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to SEED’s ethos and approach and be a good ambassador for SEED at all times.

● Demonstrate the ability, social skills and confidence to give clear guidance and support to other members of the team in respect of the philosophy and procedures of SEED in order to protect both their safety and the reputation of the NGO.

Voluntary Administration Officer

ETS is a growing UK based Christian charity, which is looking to expand its discipleship and evangelism training throughout the UK.

The Compliance and Secretary Trustee manages the administrative duties of Hidayah. They fall into three main categories; Membership Administration, GDPR and Compliance Governance. Duties include, but aren’t limited to:

Membership Administration:

• Maintaining Hidayah’s membership database
• Gathering data relating to Hidayah events and activities to feed into the annual report and publicity documents (for example, surveys, excel spreadsheets and graphs, case studies)
• Effectively communicate updates to Hidayah members via CRM systems
• Promoting events in conjunction with the Communication & Marketing Trustee
• Evaluating, managing and continually improve the Hidayah membership experience (managing the end-to-end cycle)
• Regularly check, maintain and update Hidayah’s administration and data handling systems such as using Google Drive to store information

GDPR:

• Reviewing and keep all Hidayah policies updated in accordance to legal requirements and Charity Commission guidelines
• Ensuring that Hidayah membership records are GDPR compliant
• Updating trustees on any changes to the Charity Commission guidelines
• Where necessary, assisting the HR Officer in gathering relevant data on volunteers
• Supporting the HR Officer in creating flowcharts and processes in line with current legislation

Compliance Governance:

• Supporting Hidayah Trustees with compliance specific queries for finance, volunteers and membership
• Maintaining records and registers for auditing purposes
• Regularly auditing policies to determine risk involved and finding mitigating strategies
• Coordinating with the Deputy Chair to ensure that trustees are compliant with policies and procedures

How much time is required?

We are flexible around your schedule but we anticipate that this role will take up to 4 hours a week. The following commitments are in place for all member of the Hidayah board:

• Aim to attend all Trustee meetings, delivering a comprehensive report with updates and to complete actions as and when they appear
• Aim to attend all other planning meetings as necessary
• Attend Hidayah events (where geographically possible)
• Help to fundraise for, and advertise, any Hidayah events and fundraising drives
• Add to and maintain the administration of our file sharing system ‘Google Drive’ to ensure it’s up to date with clear records, templates and forms
• Check and respond to emails in a timely manner
• Contribute to the communications group (via Discord) and stay up to date with Hidayah developments
• Provide information, statements and data for the annual report
• Keep up to date with Hidayah communication and organisational developments

This role is subject to a 6 months probationary period with a 2 month notice period should you wish to resign.

This role is in place until the next AGM (August 2024) with extension subject to Board Member approval.

We are looking for a Grants Officer who can coordinate our grants team and support diverse tasks that include research, ideation and writing of proposals. In this role you’ll be a key contributor to the continued existence of Second Tree, a small, grassroots NGO that is dependent on grants to survive.

To do this successfully, you will employ meticulous time-management and organization skills, as juggling multiple tasks with competing deadlines is common in this role. You’ll also be able to work efficiently independently, managing your own time and tasks; and in a team, overseeing project timelines and ensuring deadlines are met.

You’ll have demonstrable writing experience and the ability to communicate professionally in English. You will also have experience researching and/or writing grants, producing content that is compelling and that will help Second Tree secure new funding streams. Finally, you’ll have an adaptable and flexible attitude, knowing that problem-solving and meeting tight deadlines are inevitable aspects of this role.

The role will include:

• Researching and identifying new grant opportunities on a weekly basis;

● Work alongside the Communications and Media Officer to build a communications plan for the Environment and Rural Livelihoods projects, writing regular Facebook, blog posts and website copy

● Support the development of projects that fulfill local need and sit within the aims of SEED taking into account research findings, local needs and constraints, government objectives and SEED’s previous experience 

● Conduct research into international best practice with regard to Environment and Rural Livelihoods programmes and take the lead in discussing these with the team

● Monitor and update project trackers according to project activities, ensuring the project is on track to meet project indicators and objectives

We are looking for someone to help develop and maintain our partnerships with charities and social enterprises

You should be confident in drafting and building proposals; managing the organisation's CRM system and reporting data to the Head of Partnerships.

You will hold a hands-on role working in a small team and you will be comfortable working alone and/or in a team on projects, proposing how best to support and deliver them in collaboration with other departments.

Position Overview 

Based in the coastal town of Fort Dauphin in the southeast of Madagascar, this post will provide support to the WASH and Schools projects implemented by the NGO. The successful candidate will work within a combined national and international team to assist in the development of projects, from initial planning stages to final evaluations. 

Primary responsibilities include the writing of donor reports and proposals, providing additional support to the project team surrounding project management and monitoring and evaluation. The role is predominantly office-based with some bush travel. Pain Concern is a charity providing information and support to people with pain and those who care for them, whether family, friends or healthcare professionals. Mynshull’s Educational Foundation is committed to improving the life-chances of young people from Manchester and Salford, so they can grow up to fulfil their potential. Through the provision of small grants, we aim to reduce the barriers that young people face to education, skills and training.

We provide funding for young people aged 25 or under to help them obtain equipment, uniforms or experiences that support them in starting or continuing their education or training.  Some examples include grants towards the cost of school trips and residentials, text books, stationery, apprenticeship equipment such as tools, and musical instruments.

We are currently recruiting for trustees to join our board.  The right candidate will understand the challenges faced by young people in Manchester and Salford; this may be through their own lived experiences or through professional experience, for example in education or health and social care.  The successful candidate will be passionate about improving outcomes for young people.  Previous experience of being a trustee is not essential to this role.

As a Travel & Tech Research Assistant you will be helping to identify new technology opportunities or solutions that will enable more Blind & Partially Sighted people make independent and spontaneous journeys. You will test what technology would work well for blind and partially sighted travelers - using apps, identifying issues and what workarounds are employed when technology and / or transport fails. You will be feeding back on the physical journey and the emotional journey experiences. As part of your role, you may be required to travel on a range of public transport modes, completing some of the same journeys as our Blind and Partially Sighted Explorers with Tech. This could include downloading and testing new travel apps and logging data/information at various points on the journey. You might also be asked to wear various tracking and data capture tech in order to download data on your mobile phone - stress levels, heart rate and any moments of anxiety. As part of your research you may also be asked to record video, voice notes or take photos of venues, platforms, bus stops etc.
