Overview
No Panic is a national charity, supporting people with a variety of anxiety issues, providing self-help advice over our helpline and additional support services.
We are building a team of volunteers to produce and distribute introduction material about No Panic to service users, members, students and volunteers.
We are looking for a volunteer to co-ordinate this team.
Activities
Activities will include reviewing the introduction material; assigning editing tasks to team members; monitoring progress; reviewing content and overseeing distribution.
The Co-ordinator might also do the editing, if no volunteers are available.
We anticipate this volunteering will take up about 3-4 hours per week and ask our volunteers to commit to at least a year.
Desired Skills
Successful applicants will be committed and motivated.
They will be confident, and have leadership skills.
They will be able to produce and edit documents of varying lengths to a high standard and be able to write and communicate with clarity.
A reference will be required.

Role Overview
We’re looking for an engaged and organised individual to be the new Membership Officer for Maidstone Pride!
The Membership Officer will spearhead the volunteer membership scheme. This includes maintaining accurate membership records, supporting member onboarding, engagement, and recruitment, and helping to ensure our membership structure supports an inclusive and equitable organisation.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the review, updating, and distribution of organisational policies and procedures to ensure alignment with current legislation and best practices
- Be the key contact for membership enquiries
- Maintain and update the membership database, including processing new member applications, renewals, and resignations.
- Oversee the collection, verification, and management of relevant documents and data
- Support the committee in developing and delivering a membership engagement strategy.
- Supporting the volunteer recruitment processes, including screening, onboarding, and maintaining volunteer records.
General Responsibilities
In addition, all volunteers have the following general duties:
• All Volunteers and representatives of Maidstone Pride are expected to portray a positive image, both internally and externally, by displaying high standards of service, integrity, punctuality, politeness, and professionalism.
• To observe and uphold the requirements of the Maidstone Pride constitution, and act always in accordance with its governing documents and policies, including equal opportunities.
• Any other tasks that would be deemed suitable within this role as directed.

BACKGROUND:
- The Cardinal Hume Centre works to prevent and tackle youth and family homelessness, we:
- Provide a home to 39 young people
- Offer support to local children and families at risk
- Help families keep or find a stable home and manage their money
- Mentor people to find work or training
- Help people secure their legal right to remain in the UK and access homes, work and benefits.
Last year we helped over 1200 people including nearly 600 families and 230 children and young people. Our aim is to tackle homelessness, poor housing and poverty at a young age and break its cycle into later life. We want to see the value in each individual and nurture potential, helping young people and families to thrive.
The Centre prides itself on its welcome and person-centred approach. It recognises each individual is different, often with complex needs and so our response must be multi-layered. We therefore have six principal services: residential services for homeless young people; family support; housing and welfare rights advice; employment support; learning; and immigration advice and advocacy.

Our clients guide everything we do. We’re here to help children, families and young people experiencing or at risk of homelessness, or clients who have urgent needs that can be met at the Centre and not elsewhere.

Our staff and volunteers are diverse in their backgrounds, and their skills and experience. Many have lived experience of the challenges our clients face. We are proud of our warm welcome and our team’s commitment to support people facing disadvantage to escape the cycle of poverty and homelessness.
The HUB on Medway Street is the main entrance for clients who wish to access the services on offer. Staff in the Hub can provide level 1 advice on housing and welfare rights and for more complex cases, can refer clients to one of our other services, such as housing, welfare rights, immigration, employment and learning, and family services.
Summary of Role.
You will be supporting a team that is helping people from the local community, who are vulnerable and facing disadvantage, including; homeless young people, people living in insecure accommodation or at risk of losing their housing, low-income families with young children, unemployed people, refugees and migrants. (further details below)
Your presence supports the smooth running of the Centre and increases the team’s capacity to see and help more people.
This role is in the heart of the organisation where you will meet people of all backgrounds and learn how a community organisation responds to local need.
What will you be doing?
- Answering the intercom and buzzing clients in when they arrive
- Welcoming clients to the Centre, signing them in and out of the building calling the staff member to tell them that their client has arrived
- Registering new clients and booking an appointment with the Assessment team
- Assisting with the collection and distribution of client mail
- Administrative support to services, such as, photocopying or scanning documents for service teams and emailing them to relevant staff member
- Printing off and posting out letters to clients
- Possibility of assisting with benefit claims/forms
Other tasks that can be undertaken during quieter periods:
- Assisting clients and staff with phone calls if volunteer speaks a needed language
What are we looking for?
- You will be a confident and patient person with a professional and friendly manner and able to remain calm under pressure
- Some experience of customer service or dealing with a diverse range of people desirable
- Good listening skills
- An ability to communicate well and with confidence when handling enquiries
- Some IT skills useful
- A non-judgemental attitude towards people’s problems in their lives
What is the time commitment?
We are seeking someone for one day a week on a Thursday or Friday from 9.30am to 3pm, with an hour lunch break at 1pm. We are looking for a commitment of 6 months, which sounds like a long time, but there’s lots to learn and volunteers find this goes very quickly!
How will you be supported?
You will be supported by the Advice and Assessment team
You will be offered regular supervision and a staff member will be present in the Hub whilst you are on duty
You will be reimbursed for reasonable and agreed ‘out of pocket’ expenses such as travel and contribution to lunch up to £6.

Our vision is for a world in control of CO2 emissions - a fair social and economic approach that motivates and supports people and organisations to reduce their carbon footprints.
Our ultimate mission is to persuade people, business and government that together, we can take meaningful action using our Carbon Accounts framework. We are already demonstrating how this would work on the ground in local community action groups. We believe this will inspire governments to introduce the same mechanism to reach science-based emission reduction targets on a national basis.
What will you be doing?
We are a small, new charity with massive scope to make a difference in shifting the narrative on climate change where other organisations have failed. We are currently almost completely volunteer-led, with the exception of a freelance fundraiser. We would like to build up our trustee board and include trustees who are keen to drive us forward through their active involvement.
Our goal for the next 12 months is:
· to continue building our local group of activists who watch their carbon and ecological footprints
· to create a carbon labelling campaign, a carbon trading group, a carbon footprint and Carbon Accounts app
· to foster recognition from local businesses and government
· to create a blueprint which can be adopted in other locations
We want to spread the movement far and wide, to promote public, business, academic and political acceptance of carbon budgets, carbon trading and our Carbon Accounts approach by demonstrating how and why it works, and running communications and fundraising campaigns.
There are many practical activities you could also help with beyond trustee responsibilities, not in any order, for example workshop facilitation, managing volunteers, fundraising, carbon emissions data and spreadsheets, writing or journalism on sustainability, social media, photography or videography.... Skills and experience in any will be helpful.
What are we looking for?
We’re looking for someone to jump right in with our small and dynamic team to provide guidance, energy and insight to help us develop. We’re looking for someone who has some experience with:
· charity governance
· policy creation and management
· strategy development combining marketing, fundraising, volunteer management and finance & business planning
· you’ll need an awareness of the serious nature of the crisis and the need for radical action by governments, i.e. a strong desire to see society make an urgent response to climate change
· ability to work online, in person, in different environments with different types of people
· consistency and good communication
· co-operation, exchange of ideas, flexibility
· ability to put ideas across clearly while seeking first to understand others
· free on Monday evenings for our in-person meetings (not mandatory)
Duration
Our trustee positions run for 3 years after which the person may seek re-election
Location
We are keen on everyone being local, coming to in-person meetings and leveraging their local knowledge and connections, to keep group dynamics strong and foster motivation and commitment. We cover the London boroughs of Hackney, Islington, Camden, Haringey and Westminster.
