In-person interviews in Kidlington or Oxford will be arranged in the second half of November and in-person training for role will take place on 24th and 25th January.

Induction will take place in person in the second half of November. You will be assigned an existing volunteer as an Induction Buddy to help you begin your volunteering journey.

Want to learn first aid? Enjoy going to local events? Want to meet people and make new friends? This is the role for you. St John provide first aid treatment and care for members of the public at a variety of events. We support our local communities in all sorts of ways including first aid cover, CPR training, community response, and providing first aid training to schools and community groups. This is a fantastic role offering all sorts of opportunities within Cumbria and beyond. 

]We are currently recruiting for Community First Aiders in both Carlisle and Silloth and would love for you to join us! 

Full training and support will be provided including: Welcome programme introducing you to the project & wider charity Training in appropriate SJA policies St John Safeguarding training relevant to your role A two day Community First Aider training course The opportunity to be part of a local unit, where you will have ongoing support from peers and further learning & development opportunities Expected Time Commitment ideally two events per month (average event shift 1-8 hours) but this varies. 

For our Community First Aiders, we ask for a commitment of 80 hours a year. This can include time on events, delivering engagement in the community and attending training on Monday evenings. Interviews will be held at a time and date to suit applicants.

Inductions will be held on Monday evenings where you will also have the opportunity to meet the rest of the team.

All volunteers will initially be trained as Community First Aiders. This role is focused on community engagement, with some practical skills in delivery of first aid. Once inducted and comfortable in this role, there will be further opportunities to develop in role and increase medical skillsets should volunteers wish to pursue this and are able to take on additional commitments.

To be able to complete at least 80 hours of volunteering per year, and to attend and pass the CFA Training Course. To be able to talk to the public about what we do, and to be able to promote our cause and mission.

When screened, to attend the Network meetings at Devizes, and to join in with our training sessions. After passing the CFA course, to go out and attend events, provide medical cover, and also to do some local PR and demonstration for the public.

From fireworks on the Hoe to rugby at Plymouth Albion, you could be one of a team keeping our city safe. Our Community First Aiders support everything from major council events like the British Fireworks Championships, to festive Christmas markets, local 10k runs, and community fetes across Plymouth. With full training provided, you'll gain lifesaving skills, join a supportive team, and make a difference at unforgettable events.

Requirements for the role are: Committing 80 hours per year to the role (approximately one day per month). Physical requirements for the role at events requires moving around and treating people. This would include kneeling by a collapsed patient and delivering chest compressions for at least 2 minutes without stopping). To be able to keep up-to-date with online training.

Interviews and Enrolments will be held as a roll on basis as the applications for roles are received.

Training for the role will be given through a Community First Aider course, which will include training in patient assessment and basic life support, managing trauma in emergency settings, and recognising signs and symptoms in both adults and children. You will also determine when to escalate care, seek senior assistance, and handle medications, interventions, and patient communications whilst ensure safety in your role. Essential training such as safeguarding, health and safety, and GDPR will also be given.

Network meetings are held on Wednesday evenings between 19:30-21:00 during school term time although these are normally reduced to twice monthly in winter. It is important for applicants to generally be able to attend meetings.

Interviews will be held around similar times to the regular meetings on Wednesday evenings in Heanor.

Induction evenings will be held at same time and location as the regular meetings and an existing volunteer will provide direct support as a Buddy.

As well we online training, in person training will be provided. In person training is usually over one weekend.

We want to increase the number of volunteers in Cranleigh and Woking areas as well as Guildford, Successful candidates would be expected to attend at least one training night per month at Guildford from 20:00 for 2 hours.

Interviews will be conducted at Guildford. Please bring documents for an ID Check.

Online learning will be required before a 2 day course will be taking place at the weekend in January

There will be an interview with the team who will explain what is required if successful the will be a DBS check done and once cleared the training will begin. 

All interviews will be held at the unit and then successful applicants will attend a welcome evening held on a Thursday at 19.00

There is an expectation to regularly attend training meetings at one of our Network Units. Locations, days and times will be discussed at interview stage.

Candidates will be invited to attend an informal interview at Wharf Street in Wolverhampton where they will have the opportunity to learn more about the role as well as opportunities within St John Ambulance. If successful you will also required to complete relevant role training which includes both in person practical (2 days) and online eLearning.

There will be quarterly welcome events taking place at Wharf Street Wolverhampton where the successful candidates will meet the leaders for the Wolverhampton Networks. During the induction they will learn more about the organisation, how to access resources and select their preferred network to join - this will be predominantly based on the meeting night of the network. Training for the role will include practical in-class training, assessment and online eLearning.
