As a Volunteer Community Leader, you will champion cleaner waterways by being a visible presence in your local area – representing Planet Patrol at local events, motivating volunteers, and inspiring action.

Overview 

We’re seeking enthusiastic and approachable Volunteer Community Leaders to champion cleaner waterways and inspire positive action. You’ll be a visible presence in the community - leading by example, motivating volunteers, and representing Planet Patrol at local events.

You will play a key role in encouraging people to get involved in our citizen-science-powered activities, from water quality testing to litter picks, helping us build robust data to advocate for a cleaner planet. By sharing feedback and local insights, you’ll also help shape future campaigns and amplify the voices of your community. 

We are a small, ambitious team, and you’ll become part of our national network of change-makers, striving for a world where all beings can enjoy our waterways, free from pollution. If you’re a people person with a passion for protecting our waterways and beyond, and believe in the power of community, we’d love to hear from you.

Key responsibilities

• Attend local community events to share Planet Patrol’s mission and opportunities available to take action through citizen science ~1 per month. 

• Inspire and encourage volunteers to get involved in our mission - whether that is our paddleboarding litter picks, our water testing programme, or by downloading the Planet Patrol app and logging litter finds! 

• Share feedback and impactful stories with the Planet Patrol team to help shape future campaigns and amplify the voices of our volunteers. 

• Advocate for change - act as a voice for your community by raising awareness and engaging with local powerholders on environmental issues.

• Build towards organising your own community events and working with the team to support with event logistics and coordination. 

Qualities & Skills

Essential

• Passion for environmental action and community involvement.

• Good knowledge of environmental initiatives in your area.

• Confident, friendly communicator - comfortable speaking publicly and encouraging participation in our litter picks and water testing activities. 

• Self-motivated and IT literate - comfortable staying in touch remotely.

• Organised and can manage time efficiently.

• Committed to ~2 hrs/week for at least 6 months.

Desirable

• Experience in public speaking or communications.

• Ability to use social media and capture content effectively.

About Planet Patrol 

Our vision is a world where all beings can enjoy our waterways, free from pollution. We are transforming environmental action through citizen science - digitally, via the Planet Patrol app, and on the ground through our fantastic network of volunteers. Together, we gather vital evidence of water and litter pollution to inform critical policy change and hold polluters to account. 

Right now, we’re at an exciting point of growth as we prepare to launch the UK’s most comprehensive citizen-led water testing programme. This nationwide initiative will empower volunteers to collect valuable data, highlight the true state of our rivers, and drive accountability before it’s too late. The findings will directly inform reports and environmental research, driving real change.

Our volunteers are the heart of Planet Patrol. Without them, this crucial data could not be captured. As a fundraising volunteer, we will support you every step of the way to ensure your time at Cats Protection is a positive and rewarding one. Whatever time you can give really does make a big difference We have lots of exciting activities to choose from for example attending a fundraising event, fundraising online, promoting fundraising activities on social media, handling administrative tasks, or contributing to the development of new fundraising ideas. What can you expect to be doing?

As a flexible role, you have the choice to be involved in the following:

• face-to-face fundraising – organising or helping with fundraising events, attending supermarket collections and monitoring collection boxes.

At Cats Protection we believe our volunteers should be happy and confident in their roles. We provide support and guidance from our National Cat Centre and through our regional and local volunteer groups and teams. We’re looking for new Trustees for the Board of Spear Bournemouth Trust, which runs the Spear Programme in partnership with Resurgo Trust, equipping and empowering unemployed 16 – 24-year-olds to overcome barriers to employment and turn their lives around by moving into sustainable work or further education.

Responsibilities

Governance and meeting attendance

• Attend Trustee meetings (approx. 6-9 times a year)
• Responsibility for the governance of the Trust, including meeting any legal and Charity Commission requirements
• Ensure the Trust complies with all legal duties including annual reporting, audits, insurance and data management

Local relationship building

• Build relationships with individuals in local churches to build and develop a network of supporters for the Spear Programme
• Act as a spokesperson for Spear Bournemouth, building the charity’s profile locally

Income generation

• Develop and manage relationships with local donors or companies (working with Spear coaches and other trustees)
• Steward relationships with funders, keeping them engaged in the work of Spear Bournemouth
• Input into a fundraising strategy (with significant input and support from the Resurgo team) to fundraise ~£120,000 per year to cover the costs of the Spear Programme

Working together

• Develop strong working relationships with fellow Trustees

Active participation in and support for church team and mission

• As the Spear programme is run in partnership with local churches, the Trustees will ideally have a personal presence in a Bournemouth-based church and actively work with and support the mission of Love Church, a key partner. As part of this you may be asked to speak at church/events

Terms of Appointment

• This is a voluntary position; reasonable expenses will be reimbursed if required to travel for meetings.
• Trustees are expected to attend virtual Board meetings twice a year (usually June and December) and participate in occasional sub-committees or events (virtual or in-person). Online meetings are limited to 1.5-hours.
• The initial term is three years, with the option of renewal for a further three years.
• It is a criminal offence for an individual to serve as a Trustee if disqualified from doing so. Appropriate checks will be carried out to ensure that individuals who have been selected to become a Trustee are eligible. These checks will include references and Charity Commission/Companies House verification.
• There will be an initial probationary period of 1-year.

A bit more information about this role and the team

• This is a flexible role. The amount of time you offer can work to your availability and convenience.
• There may be opportunities for your activities to be fully remote and/or admin based if you'd prefer.
• You will need your own transport if you wish to attend events, ideally a car or van since items, stock and equipment will usually be needed.
• We ask that you complete training to support you in your role. This can be completed online if you have access to the internet and the necessary device (computer/laptop/tablet etc). Support can be offered or paper versions of much of the training if needed.

What we need from you

This is a really flexible role, you can choose what you’d like to get involved with, for example: 

• face-to-face fundraising. Organising or helping with fundraising events, running supermarket collections and fundraising stands, monitoring collection tins 

• online fundraising. Setting up online appeals and writing impactful cat case studies that maximise donations

• marketing. Spreading the word about our fundraising activities, for example on social media and with the local press  

• completing administration. Processing donations, sorting and recording donated goods, completing Gift Aid paperwork

● championing our work. Getting involved with developing new fundraising ideas and increasing community engagement

● photography. Capturing images of cats in care, cats we are helping, events and all things Cats Protection

Time expectation

This is a flexible role that can fit around your other commitments to suit you. You’ll be part of a team raising vital funds while having fun in the process!

Role Overview

As a Production Assistant, you will support the Video Production Manager and team in all stages of video production, focusing primarily on the pre and production phase. Your role will be crucial in ensuring that our video projects are well-planned and executed smoothly. You will be involved in tasks ranging from script writing to stage setting, ensuring that all necessary preparations are in place for successful video production.
 

Main Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the Video Production Manager to develop and refine scripts for various video projects, conducting research to gather relevant information and insights to inform script content and invite guests when necessary.

• Assist in planning and setting up stages for video shoots, including arranging props, lighting, and other necessary equipment, and coordinate with the production team to ensure all stage elements are in place.

• Work with the Video Production Manager to create detailed production schedules and timelines, and coordinate with cast, crew, and other stakeholders to ensure everyone is informed of shoot dates and times.

• Assist in identifying and securing suitable locations for video shoots, conducting site visits to assess the suitability of locations and addressing any logistical considerations.

• Organize and manage all production materials and resources, including scripts, shot lists, and production notes, ensuring all necessary permits and permissions are obtained for filming locations.

• Act as a point of contact between the pre/production team and other departments, ensuring smooth communication and collaboration, and provide regular updates to the Video Production Manager on the progress of pr/production tasks.

Essential

• Provide production assistance as needed (e.g. props, crafty, runner duties)

• Good interpersonal skills with ability to get on with people at all levels.

• Strong organizational and time management skills.

• Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.

• Creativity and attention to detail in script writing and stage setting.

• Experience in camera set-ups for live events /ob-doc /scripted content

• Appropriate DIT practices for media management 

• Working knowledge of audio production and basic audio set-ups for live events and recorded audio. 

• To show professionalism at all levels and in all environments

• Proficiency with Google Workspace/Microsoft Office

• Working knowledge of file codecs and wrappers

• Digital Asset Management (Utilising enterprise versions of Google Drive etc)

• Coordinating the activities of writers, directors, managers, actors, and other personnel throughout the production process

Desirable

• Committed to working with the community with a passion for helping others less fortune 

• 1 + years of production in broadcast and film

• Understanding of broadcast acquisition standards for file deliveries
