National Clinical Lead (Nursing) – Volunteer Role
Location: Wales-wide
Time Commitment: Minimum 25 hours per month
Expenses: Reasonable travel and subsistence costs reimbursed
Tenure: Initial 3-year term, extendable by approval
St John Ambulance Cymru is seeking a dedicated and experienced nursing professional to take on a strategic volunteer leadership role as our National Clinical Lead (Nursing). This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of clinical care across Wales and make a meaningful impact in communities through expert guidance, collaboration, and innovation.
About the Role
As the Clinical Lead for Nursing & Midwifery, you will:
- Provide national clinical leadership and support the implementation of clinical strategies.
- Develop methods to recruit, retain and support the work of nurses, midwives, health visitors, nursing associates, associate practitioners, and students within St John Ambulance Cymru - including integrating them into frontline practice.
- Lead on infection prevention and control, regulatory compliance, and clinical governance.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to drive quality improvement and best practice.
- Participate in senior clinical advisory duties and contribute to forums, reviews, and consultations.
- Line manage healthcare professionals and support their professional development.
You’ll work closely with the Deputy Chief Clinical Officer and other National Clinical Leads, ensuring our services remain safe, compliant, and of high quality.
What You’ll Bring
- NMC registration and NHS equivalent experience at Band 8 or above.
- Proven leadership in clinical settings, with experience in regulatory compliance and risk-based management.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and stakeholder engagement skills.

· help at fundraising events such as quiz nights, cake sales and dances
· promoting a professional image of Cats Protection at events
Time expectation
This role is really flexible! You could choose to volunteer at one event for a couple of hours or attend multiple fundraising events.
We’ll keep you up to date with upcoming local events where volunteers are needed. You’ll then be able to choose which events you’d like to volunteer at and how many hours you’d like to give. However much time you can give, your contribution will help raise much needed funds to continue the work of Cats Protection.

This team will play a critical advisory role in guiding which platforms we invest in — ensuring that every system we choose is ethical, scalable, open-source, and aligned with our mission.
About the Project
Your work will directly shape the digital future of our CIC.
The team will:

Research and evaluate open-source and nonprofit-friendly digital tools (LMS, CRM, donor systems, AI marketing tools, etc.).

Assess features, usability, compliance, cost-effectiveness, and decentralisation potential.

Report and recommend the most suitable options for our organisation’s stage of growth.

Collaborate with external experts (once funding is secured) to help customise and integrate chosen platforms.
You won’t be expected to build or code systems yourself — instead, you’ll help us make smart, evidence-based decisions that position our CIC for long-term success and operational excellence.
Roles Available
1. IT / Computer Science Student (Systems Research Assistant)
Purpose: To assess open-source tools for functionality, hosting, and integration potential.
Key tasks:

Evaluate open-source and decentralised systems (e.g., CiviCRM, Moodle, Bitrix24, Odoo)

2. Digital Project Coordinator / Tech Virtual Assistant
