What we need from you

• marketing. Spreading the word about our fundraising activities, for example on social media and with the local press  

• completing administration. Processing donations, sorting and recording donated goods, completing Gift Aid paperwork

● championing our work. Getting involved with developing new fundraising ideas and increasing community engagement

● photography. Capturing images of cats in care, cats we are helping, events and all things Cats Protection

Are you a good listener? Do you care deeply about helping others feel heard, safe, and supported? 

We’re looking for three amazing volunteers to join our Support Service team at the Charity for Action on Spiritual Abuse. This is a meaningful role where you’ll support people who’ve been hurt in religious, spiritual, or faith-based communities. 

What You’ll Be Doing 

As a Support Service Volunteer, you’ll be part of a team offering emotional support and guidance to people who’ve experienced spiritual abuse, or who have been hurt in religious, spiritual or faith-based communities.

You’ll start by arranging an initial call to listen to their story and help them figure out what kind of support they need. If they want more help, you can offer up to five follow-up calls, spaced apart fortnightly or longer. 

You’ll help people by: 

• Listening with care and compassion 
• Explaining what spiritual abuse is 
• Talking through their options if they want to report what happened 
• Helping them focus on what they need now and how to move forward 

What We’re Looking For 

You don’t need to be an expert, but we’re looking for people who: 

• Live in the UK 
• Have experience or training in listening, wellbeing, or safeguarding 
• Communicate clearly and kindly 
• Understand how abuse in faith settings can affect people — through personal experience, supporting others, or training 
• Are emotionally ready to support others (especially if you’ve been through something similar) 
• Can work well in a team and ask for help when needed 
• Have access to a computer and a private space to make calls online

Shannon Trust fulfils an unmet need around adult learning, supporting people who’ve fallen through the cracks in formal education.

We know a lot of people have had negative learning experiences in the past, so our programme is designed to be different, with no exams and no classrooms. Our unique, evidence-based Turning Pages reading manuals are used by thousands of learners in prisons and the community to improve reading skills. 

Area coordinators support and coordinate a team of prison volunteers. They help recruit and induct new volunteers and are the first point of contact for advice and support. Area coordinators lead and inspire the team via quarterly 1 to 1s and area meetings.  They also help oversee the progress of Shannon Trust in prisons in their area and provide cover and support where needed.

We are looking for volunteers who are organised, flexible, able to work independently, and able to give a regular, reliable commitment for ideally two years.  Due to the nature of the role prison security vetting will be required.

We provide training for the role via e-learning and 5 training sessions which are a mix of live, online and group training.

We have branches across the UK, all of which help our cats in different ways. Branches take in stray and abandoned cats and ensure they receive the veterinary care and attention they deserve; help raise funds, promote neutering and help spread cat welfare messages. Our branch team leader volunteers lead their local team by supporting and managing volunteers within their group, maintaining communications with both volunteers and employees, and helping promote a positive and professional image of Cats Protection.

About nurtureuk

At nurtureuk, we believe that every child and young person deserves to feel safe, understood and supported to flourish at school, emotionally, socially, and academically. But for many, school can be a difficult place, especially for those who’ve experienced trauma, adversity or unmet emotional needs.

For over 50 years, we’ve been pioneers in nurturing approaches to support social emotional development, using a tried-and-tested framework that helps children and young people build the confidence, resilience, and sense of belonging they need to succeed in education and in life.

By joining us as a Volunteer Grant Support Officer, you’ll be helping make these stories possible, securing the funds that enable us to reach more schools, support more teachers, and change more children’s lives.

The Role

We are seeking a passionate and skilled volunteer grant writer to help us increase our capacity to apply for funding from trusts and foundations.

You’ll work closely with the Income Generation staff in our Income and Partnerships team to research potential funders, write compelling proposals, and help us build long-term relationships that sustain our impact.

Key responsibilities include:

• Researching new funding opportunities aligned with nurtureuk’s mission and programmes

• Writing persuasive, high-quality funding applications and accompanying documents

• Maintaining a pipeline of opportunities and tracking application progress

• Helping to build a library of core fundraising materials and case studies

• Utilising our bank of supporting evidence, data and testimonials to strengthen proposals
   

About You

We’d love to hear from you if you’re:

• An excellent writer who enjoys crafting persuasive and engaging text, ideally with previous experience of writing successful grant or funding applications

• Organised, proactive and detail-oriented

• Confident researching and interpreting funders’ criteria

• Able to work collaboratively and independently

Desirable (but not essential):

• Familiarity with the UK charity funding landscape

• Experience in education, wellbeing, or social impact sectors

What we need from you

This is a really flexible role, you can choose what you’d like to get involved with, for example: 

• face-to-face fundraising. Organising or helping with fundraising events, running supermarket collections and fundraising stands, monitoring collection tins 

• online fundraising. Setting up online appeals and writing impactful cat case studies that maximise donations

• marketing. Spreading the word about our fundraising activities, for example on social media and with the local press  

• completing administration. Processing donations, sorting and recording donated goods, completing Gift Aid paperwork

● championing our work. Getting involved with developing new fundraising ideas and increasing community engagement

● photography. Capturing images of cats in care, cats we are helping, events and all things Cats Protection

Time expectation

This is a flexible role that can fit around your other commitments to suit you. You’ll be part of a team raising vital funds while having fun in the process!
