We are looking for a Reception Volunteer to provide a friendly welcome to patients and guests when they arrive at the hospice, helping to create an enjoyable environment for everyone. We are currently looking for a volunteer to be on recpetion on Thursday evenings between 4:30pm-6:30pm.
Your role will include some of, but is not restricted to, the following tasks:
- Greet all visitors in a friendly and professional way, in line with hospice security requirements
- Take in postal deliveries, informing staff as necessary
- Handle incoming phone calls politely, taking and relaying messages as appropriate
- Ensure the Reception area is clean and tidy
- Maintain confidentiality regarding patient details and hospice records
- Help with other related tasks when necessary

Volunteer Receptionist/Administrator
Location: Saint Michael’s Hospice – Crimple House, Hornbeam Park, Harrogate, HG2 8NA
Hours: Flexible hours – Monday to Friday between the hours of 9am and 5pm.
Volunteers generally undertake to cover a 4 hour shift 9am-1pm and 1pm-5pm
Closing Date: 28th April 2024
Interviews will be held after closing, on or around the 7th and 14th of May 2024 in Harrogate.
An exciting opportunity to join our team of Volunteers supporting the Reception and Administration staff based at Crimple House, who are the first point of contact for anybody arriving at the Hospice.
Key responsibilities will include answering and directing telephone enquiries, greeting patients, patient visitors and staff, ensuring they are warmly welcomed at all times, as well as undertaking a variety of administration tasks using Word and Excel.
The Reception desk is manned Monday to Friday and volunteers can undertake part or full day cover. The volunteer rota is set a month in advance and volunteers will be contacted to gain their availability at least 2 weeks in advance.

Perspective Volunteers will be contacted via the telephone initially and if appropriate will then be invited for an interview, where they will have the opportunity to see in more detail what the role involves.

Are you a people-person? Looking for a way to give something back to your local community?
We are looking for volunteer receptionists to help meet and greet visitors (including children, families, supporters and external guests) at Claire House Liverpool (based in West Derby).
Tasks will include:
- Monitoring the door and using the phone to let visitors into the site
- Accepting deliveries
- Answering queries
- Signing visitors in using the guest book
- Providing refreshments (e.g. making them a cup of tea/coffee)
- Re-stocking refreshments
- Clearing away equipment after use (e.g. placing used mugs in the dishwasher, wiping down surfaces)
- When required, picking up deliveries and supplies such as milk, pre-ordered lunches etc.
- Assisting staff in setting up and preparing rooms/equipment
- If suitable, supporting teams with admin tasks
You’ll help to make sure every visitor receives the best welcome and experience possible.
We’re looking for someone who takes everything in their stride and is able to put others at ease. Volunteers should be friendly, personable and empathetic. Experience in reception, customer service and/or in a clinical environment would be helpful, but isn’t essential. Volunteers should be comfortable using IT (including operating our phone system).
This opportunity would be best suited to someone who is happy to be busy but also understands there may be quieter times. You should be flexible, adaptable to change and a good communicator. We’re looking for confident and reliable team player.
Time: Weekdays, 9am-5pm (flexible shifts available within these times). We’re particularly looking for volunteers available on Tuesdays.
