Community manager volunteer volunteer roles
THE OPPORTUNITY
Are you a progressive and inclusive leader? If you’re able to shape and influence an organisation with a strong foundation and a compelling ambition, then you could be our next Chair here at the Eikon charity.
This is a chance to employ your passion, commitment and bold leadership to support the lives of young people. You will have strong interpersonal skills and influencing capabilities, and a deep commitment to the charity’s mission and values
We need someone to engage and influence stakeholders internally as our Chair as well as able to be a strong ambassador externally.
If this sounds like you, then you might be the right person to join as our Chair.
WHO ARE THE EIKON CHARITY?
Now in our 30th year, The Eikon Charity supports children and young people across Surrey to feel safe, heard, and supported.
Growing up in today’s world can be incredibly challenging. That's why we empower children and young people to find the inner and external resources they need as they develop and navigate life.
We create spaces where they can be themselves and talk about their thoughts and feelings. They understand better than anyone what’s happening in their own lives, so we listen, without judging.
WHAT MATTERS TO US
We believe there should be more investment in empowering young people to prevent them from needing help with their mental health. The needs of young people guide everything we do, shaping every decision and action we take.
We are committed to investing in preventative services and use our influence to persuade others to do the same.
We are also committed to diversity that supports young people and our volunteers to fulfil their personal potential.
IF YOU JOIN US…
You will lead us with confidence in an increasingly complex and challenging environment. We know that what we do has an impact on our children who, tragically, need more of everything we offer as their challenges increase. This is an opportunity to really make a difference to the next generation.
Becoming our Chair will be a fascinating and compelling way to engage with a highly successful charity poised to achieve so much more. Ensuring that the Board governs The Eikon Charity wisely will be a rich and rewarding opportunity.
WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR
The Chair will provide strategic leadership and governance oversight to ensure the charity delivers maximum impact for the children and young people it works with. We need someone to demonstrate bold thinking and the ability to inspire and guide our Board.
We are particularly seeking:
- commitment to mission: passion for the charity’s purpose and a deep understanding of its social impact
- inclusivity & collaboration: fosters a collaborative and inclusive Board culture, encouraging diverse perspectives and constructive challenge
- influencing & advocacy - skilled in representing the charity and influencing key stakeholders
Please make sure you read our Candidate Information Pack before applying. It contains important details about the role and our organisation.
Don’t think you quite meet all the specifications? Please don’t count yourself out. We’d still love to learn more about your interest in joining the Eikon Charity.

With around 1,000 students and a modern, spacious campus, the College combines a supportive, inclusive environment with a strong focus on academic achievement, personal growth and future-ready skills.
Our mission is clear: to inspire and educate students so they fulfil their potential, enjoy successful careers and lead fulfilling lives grounded in ambition, integrity, respect and enjoyment; a mission which drives our staff to constantly strive for excellence.
At the heart of our strategy is a commitment to offering a broad, flexible curriculum that empowers students to design a programme tailored to their goals. Students can choose from a diverse range of A Levels, T Levels, Applied General qualifications and GCSEs, which they can mix and match to build a pathway bespoke to their aspirations. This curriculum breadth supports progression into top universities, apprenticeships or employment across a wide variety of sectors.
Scarborough Sixth Form College is a community with an outstanding culture of achievement and progression, continually evolving its offer to meet local and national needs while celebrating student success and aspiration at every turn. Our efforts across our wider delivery and support were recognised by Ofsted in our more recent inspection in 2023 where we were graded as ‘Good’ overall and ‘Outstanding’ for the support we provide to learners with high needs.
About the role
With the current Chair, Rachel Dolby, stepping down after three successful years in the role, we are seeking to appoint a new Chair who can lead our board into the future and work with our leadership team, led by Phil Rumsey, to navigate the challenges and opportunities that will undoubtedly need to be faced in the years ahead.
The Chair of our Governing Body plays a pivotal leadership role at Scarborough Sixth Form College. In this role, you will provide strategic direction, help ensure robust governance and offer principled oversight to ensure the College fulfils its mission and statutory responsibilities.

This is an influential role offering the opportunity to make a lasting difference to educational outcomes and opportunities for young people across the region.

As an effective Chair, you will demonstrate strong judgement and a clear understanding of governance boundaries, respecting the distinct yet complementary roles of governors, the Principal and the senior leadership team.
Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills are essential, enabling you as Chair to lead meetings with confidence, guide discussion, encourage participation and ensure that debate remains focused on the issues that matter most.

Experience of working in complex organisations and contributing to effective governance will be highly valued, alongside a commitment to continuous personal development and reflective practice.
Above all, the Chair will show a genuine empathy with, and understanding of, the ambitions and needs of young people, ensuring that student outcomes remain central to all strategic decision-making.
Whilst the postholder does not need to have experience of, or be an expert in, sixth form education, it is vital that they have a genuine passion for education, training and its impacts on local communities. Location: Hybrid / Wembley Stadium
Applications close: 9 a.m. Friday 27th February 2026
About Wembley Stadium Foundation
Wembley Stadium Foundation is entering an exciting new chapter. As the independent charity of Wembley Stadium, we use the power of one of the world’s most iconic venues to inspire, connect and transform communities.
Funded directly through stadium event income, we invest in sport, movement and performing arts, helping young people overcome barriers and unlocking opportunities that last a lifetime.
Whether supporting grassroots football, funding performing arts programmes, or providing equipment and access for young people with disabilities, our grants create opportunities that last.
We are committed to collaboration, working closely with local partners, national organisations and grantees to amplify impact sustainably. With a refreshed strategy to 2028, a growing profile and a new CEO appointed in 2024, we are entering a period of renewed clarity and ambition.
Our aim is to ensure the magic of Wembley reaches far beyond the stadium walls, touching communities across Brent and throughout the UK.

Our partner is delivering specialist services and long-term support to people affected by conflict, displacement and severe adversity. Through direct programmes, partnerships and systems-level work, they help individuals rebuild their lives and strengthen community-based support structures.
The organisation is now undertaking a major upgrade of its finance function, as its current Sage 50 and Excel-based system is no longer fit for purpose. They are seeking pro bono support to help select and prepare for the implementation of a modern, efficient accounting system that will strengthen controls, reduce manual processing and improve management reporting.
They are looking for an experienced finance professional to work alongside their finance team in a phased engagement, providing both strategic guidance and practical support. The initial phase will focus on clarifying what a “good” future system looks like, defining functional and reporting requirements, preparing for conversations with software providers, and assessing data readiness and migration strategy. Depending on skills, availability and progress, this may then extend into hands-on support with implementation and migration activity.
Key areas of support include:
- Clarifying future finance system requirements and what “good” looks like for the organisation
- Supporting preparation for conversations with accounting software providers
- Reviewing data quality, chart of accounts and readiness for migration
- Sense-checking the proposed implementation approach and project plan
- Supporting development of efficient accounts payable, bank reconciliation and reporting processes
- Advising on integrations, automation and data flows (e.g. bank, CRM, reporting tools)
- Coaching and mentoring finance staff to ensure skills are embedded
The volunteer will work closely with the finance systems project team, led internally by a member of the finance team.
Profile
The ideal volunteer will be a finance professional with strong experience in day-to-day accounting processes and finance systems. They should have worked at a practical level with accounting software and understand what good controls, reconciliations and reporting look like. Experience of system selection, data migration, integrations or automation would be highly valuable, as would a coaching and mentoring mindset. This role would suit someone who enjoys combining hands-on delivery with advisory support.

The assignment will be delivered remotely over an initial three-month period, requiring approximately 2–5 hours per week, with the option to extend depending on progress and mutual availability. The start date is ASAP.

How we work (and what you can expect when joining the team)
We don’t believe in KPIs or harsh targets; that’s not our style. We’re a values-led, cause-driven team that measures success by the quality of relationships we build, the opportunities we uncover together, and the impact we make for our beneficiaries. Numbers can be useful, but we don’t use quotas or pressure to motivate people. Instead, we focus on collaboration, learning, and genuine enthusiasm for finding the right people who align with our mission.
What this looks like in the marketing team
In practice, you’ll join a supportive creative team that shares story leads, swaps ideas, and helps each other refine drafts. We celebrate curiosity, voice, and progress, not just outcomes. We’ll agree on simple, shared goals and light check-ins so everyone knows where we’re heading, but we won’t impose arbitrary targets or dashboards. If a post doesn’t land or a campaign underperforms, we treat it as learning—not failure—and we improve it together. Yours and our wellbeing and growth matter to us as much as the content we publish. We understand that content engagement takes time and effort to develop.
How we create together
You’ll have space to research, think, and craft clear, accessible writing across channels (web, email, social, print or channels you have been assigned to). We work from short creative briefs, friendly peer reviews, and a living style guide, so you’re never writing in a vacuum. We co-create with programme colleagues and volunteers, turning real experiences into stories, explainers, and resources that help people connect with our mission.
Ethical, inclusive storytelling
We take ethical marketing seriously. We prioritise respectful, consent-based storytelling, plain language, and accessibility (e.g., clear structure, alt text, readable layouts). We’d rather publish fewer, stronger pieces that we’re proud of than chase volume for the sake of a metric. You’ll have time to fact-check and shape narratives that are honest, strengths-based, and aligned with our values.
Your voice, our mission
Bring your ideas! Pitch topics, test formats, and iterate. We’ll back you with constructive feedback, and opportunities to grow your craft while keeping our shared focus on meaningful content that supports the communities we serve.
If you’re motivated by purpose, teamwork, and thoughtful posts (rather than meeting a quota) you’ll feel right at home with us! But remember, because of this supportive and collaborative culture we maintain, we will honestly rely on you to fulfil your share of the work.
Before you apply
We’re really grateful for every volunteer’s time and contribution. Please note we’re unable to provide professional references for volunteers who haven’t actively participated and engaged with our work for at least four months and/or delivered tangible outcomes*. Your work is valued even if your circumstances change and you’re not able to fulfil the time and hours we originally agreed. However, because professional references require a higher level of commitment, meaningful contribution, and long-term dedication, we can only provide them when we’ve worked together long enough and seen clear results from your involvement, to give future employers a fair, well-informed reference.
*By “tangible outcomes,” we mean clear contributions such as completing agreed tasks or projects, meeting deadlines, producing work we can review, or making measurable progress toward team goals. If a professional reference isn’t possible, we’re happy to confirm your volunteering dates and role instead.
Please, send us a cover letter and your CV saying why you want to volunteer with us. Unfortunately, we can only accpet application from volunteers who have the right to work and volunteer in the UK. Thank you!
Our mission is developing a nationally recognised centre of excellence in sustainability education and land stewardship.

Derwentside College is not your traditional FE college.
Located in a semi-rural location, high on the edge of the Pennines, the College is based on a single site in the heart of the town of Consett. We offer a diverse range of provision to young people and adults from across the local, predominantly rural, community. We currently deliver education and training to around 4,000 learners across over 200 courses, supported by around 170 staff.
Whilst we deliver a broad range of 16-18 classroom-based provision, including construction, engineering, hairdressing, beauty therapy, catering, health and social care and digital technology, along with maths and English, the majority of our students, 55%, gain their education through apprenticeships. Our differing mode of delivery is one of the things that sets us apart from other colleges across the northeast of England. Indeed, through this, we deliver more apprenticeships than other local colleges.
Graded ‘Good’ by Ofsted in 2022, and with a refreshed strategic plan that will take us to 2031, we have a firm base from which to progress with our ambitions for growth, development and excellence.
About the role
Our board is led by our Chair, David Allsop, who has worked tirelessly with our Principal & CEO, Chris Todd, and other colleagues across our leadership team and board to refocus our direction and culture and to grow our aspirations as a college.
Part of this process has seen David and Chris work together to build a renewed sense of collegiality across our board. We have appointed several new and experienced members, successful experts in their respective fields who are already offering a new level of challenge, scrutiny and support. This is resulting in driving a more inclusive culture of successful governance.
Given the depth of our ambitions and considering our future strategic priorities, we are now seeking to recruit a further governor to our board.
Who we are looking for
To achieve our organisational aims, our board must continue to consist of experts and experienced professionals who can provide the appropriate levels of challenge and questioning to enable us to grow, develop and improve.
Following recent successful governor recruitment and further consideration of the expertise we need across our board, we have identified that it would be helpful to us to deepen the education expertise within our membership.
We will welcome applications from candidates with:
- Expertise in the areas of FE quality improvement and assurance
- Experience as a senior leader of FE curriculum and more broadly, FE institutions
- Experience and knowledge of inspection and compliance requirements relating to the FE sector
- Extensive experience as a strategic leader within the post-16 sector
- Experience of the development of study programme for young people and/or adult learning
We seek candidates who can bring their professional expertise to scrutinise our practice and offer insights on how we can be more innovative in this area of our delivery.
Peridot Partners and Derwentside College are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and our client expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references before any final offer can be made.
