We are Alex, The Leukodystrophy Charity (Alex TLC).
Alex TLC is a trusted and experienced organisation offering support and information for all those affected by a genetic leukodystrophy. Formerly ALD Life, an internationally recognised centre of excellence for people affected by adrenoleukodystrophy and adrenomyeloneuropathy, the charity was established in 2004.
Due to popular demand, we extended our services to support all leukodystrophies in 2019 and became Alex, The Leukodystrophy Charity.
Like many other small charities, we have grown organically from an informal support group to the recognised voice for adrenoleukodystrophy patients and their families. Our charitable work is supported by our chain of five charity shops across south east London.
With scant resources we are always in need of trustworthy and reliable volunteers to assist retail staff.

Our Fundraising Events Team are at the heart of what we do, raising essential funds for the cats.
Our Fundraising Events Organisers share ideas, tasks and inspiration, planning and delivering local events, with the support of the Fundraising events helpers, such as Open Days (usually 2 per year) at the centre and our annual Christmas Bazaar.
Time Expectation: This role can be varied and time commitment can be flexible.
Without volunteers, Cats Protection Berkshire Cat Centre simply wouldn't exist. Our amazing, friendly volunteers are a diverse group with a shared love of cats who fit volunteering around their home lives and personal commitments.
We're often looking to welcome new volunteers to join our brilliant team. As well as meeting great people and making an incredible difference to the cats of Berkshire.

STAMMA’s Helpline Services include our phoneline, webchat and email support services and are a hugely important part of STAMMA’s work. This is frontline stuff, responding to people reaching out for information and support. It’s a great opportunity to spend time chatting with people who stammer, as well as their parents, grandparents, teachers and employers, taking the time to make space to listen and to value what they have to say. Where appropriate we then signpost people to useful information, support and services.
We use a virtual call centre which means you can take calls and webchats from home, using a desktop or laptop computer.
We are currently recruiting volunteers to work on the helpline and webchat: one person covering different shifts across the week. This Floating Support role is ideal for a volunteer who is flexible and would like to help us cover gaps in our Rota, so that we can ensure all callers are able to access support.
The role will also commit to a weekly shift on Wednesdays 4pm to 6pm.
Please note that this volunteer role is only open to people who are resident in the UK.
What does the role involve?
Working within our Helpline Services, we’re hoping you’ll feel comfortable to:
· Take helpline calls (listening and speaking on the phone)
· Respond to webchats (reading on-screen messages and typing responses)
· Sending occasional emails
If you wish to, you can also be linked to an area of project work. That way, if the helpline services are quiet during your shift, you can get involved in other areas of STAMMA’s work. Project work is likely to involve reading and reviewing documents and resources, contributing to discussions and campaign ideas, and helping develop new resources.
What training and support would you get?
Structured, online training programme which can be taken at your own pace but is likely to take you about 8-10 hours in total. Following the training, you’ll have practice helpline calls and webchats. If you feel ready after that, you’ll start working in the helpline services. Ongoing support includes:
· Monthly helpline services meetings where you can meet other helpline volunteers. These monthly meetings include a short training session and discussion where we share and learn from our experiences of different calls and webchats.
· We have a WhatsApp group where you can keep in touch with other volunteers.
· Volunteer Supervisors are available for one-to-one support and discussions.
· Access the training modules as many times as you want.
What would you need?
· A quiet place where you can work in privacy and not be overheard during calls
· A mobile phone or landline
· A computer or laptop
Who might enjoy this volunteer role?
You’re likely to enjoy volunteering in the Helpline Services as Wednesdays & Floating Support volunteer if you:
· Are flexible, and would be comfortable to take on shifts at short notice (we would always aim to give you between 1-month to 1 weeks’ notice where possible)
· have a genuine curiosity about people and their experiences
· are able to understand written and spoken English
· are comfortable enough to speak on the telephone
· are comfortable with basic email functions
· have good administration skills
· enjoy listening and talking to people
It’s not essential to stammer yourself if you’re interested in working in our helpline, but it can be an advantage if you do, or if you are the parent of a child who stammers. Many of our callers find it really helpful to know that they’re speaking to someone who really ‘gets it’ and who has that personal insight into some of the issues and questions they have.
Other information
As a volunteer you can, of course, step back from the role at any time, although we do ask that you give us notice so that we can train someone to take over your role. However, both you and the service are likely to get most out of the opportunity if you’re able to volunteer with us for at least12 months or more. By gradually learning and developing your confidence in the role, you can have the biggest impact.
This is a volunteer role and is unpaid.

Community Action for Refugees and Asylum Seekers (CARAS) is a registered charity that has been supporting refugees and asylum-seekers since 2002 empowering them to integrate and engage in the local community.

About Youth ESOL:
Our award-winning ESOL project offers English language classes to young people at a wide range of levels. This provides vital skills, opportunities and social contact and is crucial for enabling young people to do well at school or college.
About the Role:
CARAS is looking for volunteer ESOL Teaching Assistants to support our face-to-face study programme called ‘Get Ready for School.’
This programme is attended by young people out of education and is based in Streatham on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Core delivery of the programme includes English, Maths, Digital skills, complemented by Reading and Writing for Pleasure.
We also run Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon classes open to all existing CARAS youth community members, 4:30pm to 6pm. These classes tend to be larger and have a large range of language levels.
Volunteers in this role are required to commit to at least one 2-hour session per week, during these times:

Monday 10 am to 3pm

Tuesday 2pm to 6pm

Wednesday 11am to 6pm
Please note that ESOL classes do not run during school holidays, and we follow Wandsworth Council term dates.
Volunteer Tasks and Responsibilities:

Helping to set up the classroom and provide learners with classroom resources;

Requirements
Essential:

To be 18 years or older;

Able to travel to our community centre in Tooting (travel and food expenses can be reimbursed);

To be reliable and punctual. We ask volunteers to commit to at least one class every week for a minimum of 4 months. If you are unable to attend a class due to a planned holiday, you must inform the program lead in advance.

The ability to volunteer on Monday mornings and Wednesday afternoons/evenings during Wandsworth term time for a minimum of four months;

What is a Recruitment Coordinator?
Recruitment Coordinators help us find local people interested in supporting SSAFA and take them through our recruitment and selection process.
Why do we need you?
We’ve been supporting the Armed Forces community since 1885. Our beneficiaries come from all backgrounds and age groups and may have served in WW2 or in a more recent conflict like the Falklands or Afghanistan.
There are SSAFA branches throughout the UK and overseas who support local volunteers to deliver services to veterans, serving personnel and their families. Some branches are divided into smaller divisions to ensure the best local service delivery. Each branch has a team of volunteer caseworkers, support volunteers, executive roles, and fundraisers.
To offer the best possible service to our clients we need to match the right volunteers to the right role. Could you spare a few hours a week to help recruit new volunteers and welcome them to SSAFA by supporting them through their induction phase? We’d love to hear from you if think you could help with this important role.
When would you be needed and where would you be based?
The role is about recruitment and so will involve attending local recruitment fairs a few times a year as well as meeting volunteers both face-to-face and virtually. As part of your local branch, you might have access to an office, but the administration part of the ole can be done form home.
What would you be doing?
- Be the first point of contact for all volunteering enquiries, ensuring that all potential volunteers receive a timely response.
- Supporting volunteers through the recruitment and induction process and ensuring volunteers are communicated with throughout.
- Arranging informal interviews for new volunteers conducted in-line with SSAFA policies.
- Conducting ID checks (where relevant) so the volunteer can begin the vetting process
- Supporting volunteers to book onto role specific training and ensuring they complete their mandatory training.
- Working with the VDM to ensure branch vacancies are advertised on the branch website and national websites and support any national recruitment campaigns
- Maintaining good relationships with local Volunteer Centres and other local sources of volunteer promotion and attend local recruitment fairs.
- Evaluating volunteer recruitment activity, experimenting with creative ways to recruit volunteers from a variety of sources to create a diverse network of volunteers.
- Treating all potential volunteers inclusively with respect and sensitivity, regardless of age or background
- Supporting any volunteers facing barriers to find a suitable role.
- Being a positive ambassador for SSAFA remembering that anyone you meet could be a potential client, volunteer, or fundraiser.
- Volunteering within the standards and values of SSAFA
The remit of this role may change over the next 12-18 months depending on the outcome of a trial currently being undertaken.

- Volunteers will be covered by SSAFAs Public Liability Insurance whilst carrying out the role.

What is a Recruitment Coordinator?
Recruitment Coordinators help us find local people interested in supporting SSAFA and take them through our recruitment and selection process.
Why do we need you?
We’ve been supporting the Armed Forces community since 1885. Our beneficiaries come from all backgrounds and age groups and may have served in WW2 or in a more recent conflict like the Falklands or Afghanistan.
There are SSAFA branches throughout the UK and overseas who support local volunteers to deliver services to veterans, serving personnel and their families. Some branches are divided into smaller divisions to ensure the best local service delivery. Each branch has a team of volunteer caseworkers, support volunteers, executive roles, and fundraisers.
To offer the best possible service to our clients we need to match the right volunteers to the right role. Could you spare a few hours a week to help recruit new volunteers and welcome them to SSAFA by supporting them through their induction phase? We’d love to hear from you if think you could help with this important role.
When would you be needed and where would you be based?
The role is about recruitment and so will involve attending local recruitment fairs a few times a year as well as meeting volunteers both face-to-face and virtually. As part of your local branch, you might have access to an office, but the administration part of the ole can be done form home.
What would you be doing?
- Be the first point of contact for all volunteering enquiries, ensuring that all potential volunteers receive a timely response.
- Supporting volunteers through the recruitment and induction process and ensuring volunteers are communicated with throughout.
- Arranging informal interviews for new volunteers conducted in-line with SSAFA policies.
- Conducting ID checks (where relevant) so the volunteer can begin the vetting process
- Supporting volunteers to book onto role specific training and ensuring they complete their mandatory training.
- Working with the VDM to ensure branch vacancies are advertised on the branch website and national websites and support any national recruitment campaigns
- Maintaining good relationships with local Volunteer Centres and other local sources of volunteer promotion and attend local recruitment fairs.
- Evaluating volunteer recruitment activity, experimenting with creative ways to recruit volunteers from a variety of sources to create a diverse network of volunteers.
- Treating all potential volunteers inclusively with respect and sensitivity, regardless of age or background
- Supporting any volunteers facing barriers to find a suitable role.
- Being a positive ambassador for SSAFA remembering that anyone you meet could be a potential client, volunteer, or fundraiser.
- Volunteering within the standards and values of SSAFA
The remit of this role may change over the next 12-18 months depending on the outcome of a trial currently being undertaken.

What training and support would you receive?
- Role specific training to prepare you for your voluntary role - volunteer management – attracting, recruiting, and inducting volunteers. This training would take approx. 3 hours.
- Mandatory on-line training modules to complete at home, so you are up to date on how to keep clients, their families safe and personal information safe.
- Access to a range of e-learning courses.
- Support from the Volunteer Development Manager and Trainer (per region)
- Access to the Volunteer Experience Team based at our central office.
- Reimbursement of out-of-pocket expenses
- Volunteers will be covered by SSAFAs Public Liability Insurance whilst carrying out the role.

What is the purpose of this role?
To support people aged 18+ in the community by leading a series of guided walks around open spaces in Nottingham city (and Nottinghamshire).
Walk Leaders can make a difference by creating safe, enjoyable, and accessible walking opportunities that enhance health, wellbeing, and social connection.
What impact does this role have?
Provides accessible, guided health walks across Nottingham’s parks and open spaces. The walks encourage a healthy lifestyle by combining exercise with opportunities to socialise, helping people stay active, build friendships, and explore their local community.
What activities might you be involved in?
· Offering a friendly welcome to all walkers, especially those joining for the first time
· Providing a short briefing before the walk to ensure all participants are prepared
· Making sure the walk is safe and accessible for participants on the day of the walk
· Taking the lead in walks and ensuring they are safe, friendly and enjoyable and well managed
· Addressing and resolving issues that arise during walks, following guidance from your Line Manager, and promptly reporting any incidents or concerns to them.
· Providing information about other Age UK Notts services and other walks offered by the scheme, and basic information about how to keep active
· Ensuring all required paperwork is properly completed
· Attending occasional walk leaders’ meetings, one-to-one meetings and relevant training

When would you be needed to volunteer?
The role can be flexible around your availability. Most volunteers lead walks weekly or monthly, with walks lasting 20–60 minutes. These may be starter/easy walks or wellbeing-focused walks. At times, we may request your support to provide cover at short notice if required.
While we are looking to expand, our current walks take place on Monday mornings at the Arboretum, Wednesday mornings at Highfields Park/Lakeside and Thursday mornings in Sneinton.
What training will you be given?
You will be given all the training you need to enable you to carry out your role. This will include a one-day Ramblers Wellbeing Walks, Walk Leader Course, risk assessment guidance and a thorough departmental induction to provide you with further information about your role.
