Mavar is currently seeking a seasoned networker to join the Mavar Trustee Board as a Trustee with special responsibilities for strengthening our fundraising practice and broadening the charity’s donor base. Working with our Board and CEO, you’ll bring experience, insight and strategic guidance to help develop our fundraising capacity in support of the strategic development of the charity.

Trustee Role Details
The day-to-day operations of Mavar are conducted by staff and volunteers under the leadership of our CEO and with the overall oversight of the Trustee Board.
Main Duties of the Fundraising Trustee:
- Contribute to the overall governance of the charity as a member of the Board of Trustees.
- Provide advice and support on fundraising strategy, ensuring income generation is planned and executed in alignment with Mavar’s budget framework and objectives.
- Act as a fundraising champion on Mavar’s board, working with the CEO and supporting other trustees to explore fundraising possibilities.
- If you have personal networks with fundraising potential, utilise them to support the work of the charity.
- Support the development of diverse fundraising streams (e.g. individual giving, trusts and foundations, community fundraising, corporate support) and advise and support with appeals and major fundraising events/campaigns.
- Act as an ambassador for the charity, promoting its work and helping to raise its profile.
- Ensure compliance with fundraising regulation and best practice, as well as Mavar’s policies and procedures. You are expected to give at least one day per month to your role. Board meetings take place four times a year in London, with a mixture of online and in-person meetings and are complemented by occasional online or in-person feedback meetings with the CEO and the Treasurer.

- Commitment to the charity’s mission and values
- Understanding of the legal duties and responsibilities of charity trusteeship
- Knowledge and experience of fundraising (e.g. trusts, corporates, major donors, community fundraising, or digital campaigns)

Some may simply wish to explore options for obtaining a general education or improving their access to employment opportunities whilst wishing to remain within the ultra-orthodox community; others may look to divest themselves of the strictures of ultra-orthodoxy and to lead a more mainstream lifestyle. They all typically lack the everyday life skills to cope with the challenges of the secular world, which appears to them as a confusing, frightening and alien planet. Any effort to integrate with the outside, secular world is hampered by limited English language skills, cultural disorientation, lack of basic education or qualifications and negligible skills for employment.

Safeline are recruiting a new trustee for the Safeline board who will have lead responsibility for supporting and assuring the clinical practices of the charity.

· Prevention/Early Intervention services to help prevent child sexual abuse and exploitation and effective early support to children and young people who are at risk.
· Counselling, Psychotherapy and Art Therapy to survivors of sexual abuse from age 4+, face-to-face, telephone and online
· Independent, non-judgmental emotional and practical support and advocacy to anyone who has experienced historical or recent sexual abuse and wishes to report to the police.
· National Male Survivors Helpline and online support service.
· Specialist education and training to prevent and address sexual abuse.
The Board
Our Board of Trustees are all volunteers drawn from a cross-section of different backgrounds. They are chosen for their skill sets to support Safeline and provide diversity of experience.
The Trustees are responsible for appointing the Chief Executive Officer and ensuring sound management of the professional, ethical, legal, and financial affairs of the Charity. Working in partnership with the executive team and staff, they:
- Set the direction.
- Agree the vision.
- Determine the strategies and policies to fulfil the vision.
- Monitor progress.
- Ensure the outcomes are consistent with the overall strategy.

Key Responsibilities
- Governance & Oversight
- Fulfil all legal duties of a Trustee under the Charities Act and the organisation’s governing document.
- Ensure the counselling service operates in line with safeguarding, ethical, and clinical governance standards.
- Provide strategic oversight of service delivery, ensuring quality and accessibility for beneficiaries.
- Support & Challenge
- Act as a critical friend to the Head of Counselling/Clinical Lead, offering guidance and expertise.
- Monitor and support the development of counselling provision, including policies, training, and professional standards.
- Ensure that client feedback and outcomes inform service development.
- Risk & Compliance
- Help the Board assess and manage risks associated with counselling practice, including safeguarding, confidentiality, and professional conduct.
- Ensure compliance with relevant legislation (e.g., data protection, safeguarding, mental health regulations) and alignment with BACP professional framework.
- Advocacy & Ambassadorship
- Champion the importance of counselling within the wider organisation and to external stakeholders.
- Support fundraising and partnership opportunities that sustain and grow the counselling service
Essential Criteria for the Clinical Lead:
· Commitment to the charity’s mission and values.
· Understanding of counselling practice and its role in supporting wellbeing (e.g., qualified counsellor, psychotherapist, clinical supervisor, or equivalent experience).
· Experience of working in a counselling environment and risk management.
· Knowledge of professional standards and frameworks (e.g., BACP, UKCP, HCPC) and experience of ethical decision making.
· Practice in working with clients who have experienced sexual abuse.
· Ability to think strategically and contribute to Board-level discussion.
· Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to challenge constructively.
· Understanding of governance and willingness to undertake Trustee responsibilities.
Desirable:
· Experience in clinical governance, safeguarding, or service management.
· Prior Trustee or Board-level experience.
· Connections within the counselling, healthcare, or voluntary sector to support partnership development.
Time Commitment
Trustees are required to attend approximately 4 board meetings a year plus additional ad hoc meetings for example at team and fundraising events.

The Chapter constitutes the board of charity trustees of Worcester Cathedral (registered charity: 1207427). The Chapter comprises members who are lay and ordained, executive and non-executive as set out in the Cathedral’s Constitution. The non-executive members provide constructive challenge, input and support to the Cathedral’s strategic direction and operational implementation.
Commitment
Meetings: The Chapter currently meets formally 8 times per year (including two away days), usually for four hours on a weekday morning. Papers are received in advance and all members of the Chapter are expected to have read papers and be prepared to contribute as needed to discussion.
The Chapter does not normally meet in August. Expenses can be claimed for attendance at meetings or carrying out functions on behalf of the Chapter. Non-executive members of the Chapter will serve as lay canons of the Cathedral (or honorary canons if ordained), having the right to the title of ‘Canon’ and of being assigned a stall in the Cathedral’s 14th Quire. Non-executive members of the Chapter are required to adhere to the Chapter Member / Trustee Code of Conduct
Responsibilities of the Chapter:
A non-executive member of the Chapter shall take a full part in the discussions and decision-making of the Chapter as it fulfils its statutory responsibilities:
- to order the worship and promote the mission of the Cathedral;
- to formulate proposals in connection with the strategic direction and mission of the Cathedral;
- to manage all property vested in the Cathedral and the income accruing from it;
- to ensure that necessary repairs and maintenance of the Cathedral and its contents and other buildings and monuments are carried out;
- to attend to all matters concerning the appointment of staff to the Cathedral;
- to prepare an annual budget for the Cathedral;
- to prepare an annual report and accounts;
- to keep under review the Constitution and Statutes of the Cathedral;
- to ensure legal and regulatory compliance;
- to meet safeguarding requirements and ensure best practice;
- to exercise the power if necessary to provide for the incorporation of limited companies for the better management of the Cathedral.
Contributing to the Cathedral's Life, Worship and Mission:
A non-executive member of the Chapter shall contribute the skills and experience they bring to the Cathedral as opportunity allows, for example:
- by serving on such incorporated limited companies as the Chapter may establish, on sub-committees of the Chapter and on any working groups of the Chapter as may be created;
- by attending and contributing to worship at the Cathedral;
- by contributing to the ministry of hospitality offered at the Cathedral and to such other Cathedral activity as may be appropriate;
- by acting as an advocate for the Chapter of Worcester Cathedral within and beyond the Church of England, across the city, the Deanery and the Diocese of Worcester and the wider region;
- by serving as a Canon of the Cathedral, being seen and present as such, as may be appropriate;
- by providing critical friendship and constructive challenge to Chapter colleagues, the Chief Officers and the wider Senior Executive Team.
In general:
- to ensure their own compliance with the Chapter’s policies and procedures, and contribute to the review and development of policy and practice;
- to promote and uphold the Cathedral’s reputation and good standing at all times.
Person specification
Essential
- Communicant member of the Church of England (within the meaning given in Rule 83(2) of the Church Representation Rules), or a communicant member of a Church which is not in communion with the Church of England but subscribes to the doctrine of the Holy Trinity
- Committed to the Cathedral’s Christian vision, values, mission and ministry.
- Able to carry out legal duties as set out in the Charity Commission’s ‘CC3 - The Essential Trustee’ and make decisions in accordance with the guidance provided in ‘CC27 – Decision-making for charity trustees’.
- Willing to follow the Chapter’s Code of Conduct and to uphold all of the Chapter’s safeguarding responsibilities.
- Willing to complete appropriate safeguarding training and DBS checking.
- Demonstrable strategic leadership and governance skills; previous experience volunteering as a trustee is welcome but not essential.
- Willingness to attend to professional personal development including undertaking training.
- Able to commit a minimum of eight hours a month to attending Chapter meetings (or other business on behalf of the Chapter) including preparation for meetings.
Desirable
- A professional background or significant experience of working in one (or more) of the following areas:
- strategic human resources management
- property management / development
- strategic planning
ELIGIBILITY
The Chapter members must be eligible to be trustees under the Charities Act. The Chapter members may not act as a trustee if they are disqualified unless authorised to do so by a waiver from the Commission. The reasons for disqualification, issued by the Commission include:
- being bankrupt or having an individual voluntary arrangement (IVA);
- having an unspent conviction for certain offences;
- being on the Sex Offenders Register
