We are looking for a dynamic and innovative fundraising specialist individual with drive and passion that aligns with the purpose of The Iolanthe Midwifery Trust to join our Board of Trustees. As a proven fundraising specialist, you will work in collaboration with the Board of Trustees, The Executive Director and the Philanthropy Officer as we roll out our fundraising strategy.The Fundraising Trustee will sit on the Board as well as The Finance and Fundraising sub committees.
Iolanthe has an endowment fund which provides some of the income needed each year to fund awards. As part of our 3 year strategy we will diversity our income streams and focus on the following areas

We have recently appointed a Philanthropy Officer who is working to roll out our fundraising strategy and have a legacy consultant working with us to develop this area further.
Key responsibilities for fundraising lead trustee

Meetings:
The Board meets three times a year in March, June and October. All but 1 meeting (October combined AGM/Board meeting/Award event) are held remotely. Meetings generally last no longer than 2 hours and with the exception of the October meetings are held on a weekday evening.
The Finance sub committee meets remotely 3 times a year approximately 10 days ahead of the Board meetings.
The Fundraising sub committee will meet remotely and feed through to the main Board meetings.

Proven experience of executing successful fundraising campaigns, who can provide support with the following key areas:

Strategy development: Working with the Board of Trustees, Executive Director and Philanthropy Officer to help shape an effective fundraising strategy, fostering long-term sustainability and growth in line with our values

Strategy execution: Support as necessary the process of fund identification

Partnership Development: Targeted and strategic identification of partnerships to advance our goals and support to manage key stakeholders
Our mission is to increase the number of midwives and student midwives supported by our sustainably and ethically financed annual awards programme

Role Overview
As our Philanthropy Lead, you will play a pivotal role in powering our mission by identifying, cultivating, and stewarding high-value donors who share our vision for systemic change. Beyond major gifts, you'll help shape a thoughtful and inclusive supporter journey to create meaningful engagement opportunities for a broader community of donors, including legacy givers, mid-level supporters, and monthly contributors. You'll ensure our communications open clear pathways to connection and action. This is a unique opportunity to deepen your expertise in major donor fundraising while creating a values-driven donor engagement strategy at a nonprofit working to transform the financial system for climate justice.
What you will do

Collaborate with the Executive Director to plan and participate in donor meetings, craft tailored proposals, and implement effective stewardship plans.

Identify, research, and cultivate relationships with prospective major donors, particularly those aligned with climate action, sustainable finance, and systems change.

Support the development of donor materials, including impact updates, campaign briefings, and stewardship reports.

Lead donor engagement efforts, coordinating personalized communication strategies and touchpoints to inspire long-term support and deepen relationships.

Track and analyze fundraising performance, using insights to refine engagement strategies and improve outcomes across major giving efforts.
What you have

Experience in major gift fundraising, legacy giving, and donor engagement strategy.

Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling messages tailored to high-value donors and stakeholders.

Ability to translate complex technical concepts into compelling philanthropic opportunities.

Familiar with issues in environmental sustainability, climate justice, and driving systemic change.

The Role
At this time, we are seeking to strengthen our Board by appointing a Trustee with dedicated experience in successful strategic fundraising and knowledge of corporate and philanthropic giving working with major donors, Trusts and Foundations, Patrons and Ambassadors, to help support our strategic objectives.
- Fundraising strategy, collaborate with the Board and Executive Leadership to support the development and implementation of a comprehensive fundraising strategy aligned with the organisations mission, vision and values.
- Work closely to advise our departmental teams on strategic direction to our fundraising and philanthropic efforts.
- Support the organisation in developing our approach to network relationships with existing and potential new donors, ambassadors and corporate partnerships.
- Provide knowledge and support to our team around grant sources and fundraising opportunities, branding and campaigns.
- Support the development of projects and causes to help create exciting, sustainable, appealing asks to funders.
As a Trustee you will have the opportunity to influence our development, and with the other members of our Board, you will be responsible for the overall governance and strategic direction of the Charity.
