Who we are

Established over 53 years ago, our mission is to help disadvantaged children in Eastern Europe through the creation of long-term partnerships with local, mainly Christian, organisations. Our desire is to help children turn their lives around, so that they can lead normal and productive lives as adults, even with their ongoing disabilities and additional needs.

Our projects for families in crises, children living with disabilities, orphans and victims of the war in Ukraine include:

• preventing abandonment or supporting those who have been abandoned
• transforming lives and transforming attitudes to disability through direct action
• finding resilience in adversity through creating firm foundations for children, young people and families living in precarious conditions
• giving children a voice and a childhood through education and play

Our culture and values

ChildAid’s Mission and Vision

1.        Our mission is to transform the limited circumstances of today’s vulnerable, abandoned and disabled children in Eastern Europe into ones of opportunity and hope.

2.        Our vision is that, in the longer term, local and national authorities will be persuaded to adopt this approach themselves, thereby rendering our further support unnecessary.

1.        Our Christian and ecumenical faith is at the core of all our work.

2.        We take a compassionate and non-judgemental approach to all in need of our help.

3.        We are proactively involved with all our projects, promoting improvements where we think they are indicated.

4.        We are committed to positive social change in favour of the disadvantaged.

5.        We always work with local project Partners.

6.        We believe that Partners, UK staff and volunteers and our supporters are equally key to the success of our mission.

7.        We remain strictly non-political.

8.        Our dealings with Partners and supporters are always open, honest and transparent.

Equality, diversity and inclusion policy

ChildAid will actively promote and enhance the protection, safety and welfare of children, young people or vulnerable adults from abuse and make appropriate responses to any allegation or suspicion of abuse.

ChildAid seeks to ensure that those benefiting from the charity are not harmed in any way through contact with our representatives.

We will accordingly take all reasonable steps within our power to ensure that this does not happen.

The Charity is committed to ensuring that applicants and employees are treated fairly and without prejudicial regard to their age, sex, race, disability, sexual orientation, religion or belief, marital status/civil partnership or gender-re-assignment.

The Charity is also committed to protecting the dignity of employees whilst at work. Improper harassment of any kind is not permitted and may be treated as a disciplinary offence.
