About us
Who we are
TACT have a range of recovery-focused, trauma-informed services for adults experiencing addiction, mental ill health and domestic abuse. These include open-access drop-in sessions offering one-to-one and group support and a cafe environment, alongside structured programmes such as a listening service, outreach support and a night-time de-escalation service. We also have external services such as AA delivering groups on site, as well as drop in sessions with the council's housing solutions team, floating support services and Citizens Advice. We also have gardening, arts and crafts, reiki and other holistic services available.
Peer support is central to our model, with mutual aid groups, recovery-focused activities and opportunities to connect with others who have lived experience. Service users have the opportunity to become a TACT volunteer with opportunities in a variety of roles, and access to training alongside paid staff.
We also deliver recovery accommodation with housing related support offered to enhance the holistic person-centred support offered through our drop-in and group activities to help individuals stabilise and move towards independence.
Our culture and values
We prioritise safety, choice and empowerment. We recognise each individual's skills, resilience and potential, supporting them to build on existing strengths through tailored support, volunteering and development opportunities. We focus on what someone can do as our first priority, not what they can't.
We've built a non-judgemental, compassionate environment where people feel heard and respected, understanding the impact of trauma on behaviour and engagement. Our flexible, open-access model allows individuals to engage at their own pace, while consistent relationships and peer support foster trust and stability
Staff are supported to respond with empathy, adapt to individual needs and prioritise emotional safety in all interactions. We have recently brought in additional welfare support for staff to utilise in order to reduce harm from vicarious trauma.
Our peer-led, mutual aid approach creates a non-judgemental environment where individuals feel understood and supported. Many service users progress into volunteer roles and then into paid roles at TACT, embedding co-production and ensuring our workforce reflects the communities we serve whilst making the most of the skills and experiences that we already have within our service.
We also use service user feedback and outcomes data to continually shape and improve services, ensuring lived experience remains at the heart of everything we do.
Equality, diversity and inclusion policy
Lived experience is central to our culture and embedded across delivery, leadership and governance. We actively seek out and involve people with lived experience as staff, volunteers and trustees, ensuring their insight shapes both strategic decisions and frontline support. Many of TACT's staff, volunteers and trustees have lived experience, ensuring services are shaped by those who understand the challenges faced by the people we support .
