Recruiter Insights for April 2026

Here are our recruiter insights for April, with the latest facts and figures from the labour market. This update is based on the jobs posted on CharityJob during January to March 2026.

Candidate demand continues to grow

We again saw year-on-year growth from candidates despite record numbers in 2025. March reached record levels of clicks on the ‘Apply’ button (CoA) per job posted, again surpassing the previous record of November 2025.

The overall average number of clicks on the ‘Apply’ button was up by 13% year-on-year and up by 8% on the previous quarter.

March itself was up 26% year-on-year as candidate demand bucked previous trends, suggesting the seasonal patterns we usually expect may be different in 2026.

Candidate numbers hit new heights

Active candidates were up 22% on the previous year, and candidate registrations were up 12%.

We saw expected quarter-on-quarter growth across both metrics, due to the usual decline seen in the previous quarter.

January was a record month for active candidates and candidate registrations.
98,286 active candidates, 22% increase year-on-year, 18% increase quarter-on-quarter. CharityJob is still seeing high active 'logged-in' candidates compared to the previous year. 48,382 Candidate registrations, 12% increase year-on-year, 13% increase quarter-on-quarter. CharityJob saw consistent candidate registrations growth year-on-year.

Decline in number of jobs posted

CharityJob saw a decline of 12% in jobs posted compared to the previous year. This is alongside growth of 10% quarter-on-quarter, as expected when comparing to the festive period.

The challenges within the labour market continue to affect the number of available roles.
11,640 jobs posted, 12 decrease year-on-year, 10% increase quarter-on-quarter. Jobs posted in Q1 2026 are up, as expected, compared to the previous quarter. However, they remain down on the previous year.

HR jobs showed the most growth

The category with the biggest gap between the number of roles available and the number of clicks on the ‘Apply’ button was, once again, fundraising. Demand for fundraising roles was 28% lower than the overall demand for jobs.

The category with the most roles available this quarter was business services, with more than 2,380 jobs posted.

The categories to grow the most were HR and Marketing, PR & digital with increases  in the number of jobs posted of 23% and 8% respectively, compared to the previous year.

Demand (measured in clicks on the ‘Apply’ button) for admin roles reached more than 80. Finance roles saw a 25% increase in demand compared to the previous year.
