Recruiter Insights for July 2025

Welcome to our quarterly insights, with the latest facts and figures from the labour market. This update is based on the jobs posted on CharityJob during April to June 2025.

Candidate demand for jobs

2025 has seen continued year-on-year growth from candidates compared to 2024, with June seeing the highest average clicks on the ‘Apply’ button for a job this quarter, with 48.

The overall average number of clicks on the ‘Apply’ button was up by 34% year-on-year and down –6% on the previous quarter, following the record numbers seen in Q1 2025.

Candidate numbers

We continue to see an increase in new candidate registrations, compared to the same period last year, with a 38% increase on the same quarter of 2024. We saw a decline in candidate registrations of -11% compared to the previous period, but this was again following a record high in Q1 2025.

The number of active candidates on our site increased by 24% year-on-year. This is due to the recruiter-driven market, where there are more active candidates and fewer jobs being posted. This results in an increase in candidate demand.

77,022 active candidates (April - June 2025) 24% increase year-on-year 4% decrease quarter-on-quarter CharityJob is still seeing high active 'logged-in' candidates compared to the previous year 38,339 Candidate Registrations (April - June 2025) 38% increase year-on-year 11% decrease quarter-on-quarter CharityJob is continuing to see very high growth in new Candidate Registrations versus last year

Number of jobs posted

Again, this reflects ONS data that the UK market has shifted towards being more recruiter-led, with the number of job vacancies decreasing and candidate demand increasing.  Despite this wider market decline, CharityJob saw a steadying of the number of jobs posted, with a small decline of –5% vs. the previous quarter.

We can also see from the graph that the number of jobs posted throughout this quarter is flat and steady.

12,592 jobs posted 12% decrease year-on-year 5% decrease quarter-on-quarter Jobs posted in Q2 2025 are staying steady and in line with the previous quarter

Job categories

The category with the biggest gap between the number of roles available and the number of clicks on ‘Apply’ for those roles, was fundraising. Demand for fundraising roles was 43% lower than the overall demand for jobs, with 26 clicks on ‘Apply’ for fundraising jobs, compared to 46 for all jobs.

The category with the most roles available this quarter was ‘Business Services’, with more than 2,500 jobs posted.

Demand (measured in clicks on ‘Apply’) for marketing, PR and digital roles, and policy, advocacy, governance and campaigns roles has reached more than 100 for two quarters in a row.
