Recruiter Insights for July 2026

Welcome to our recruiter insights for July, with the latest facts and figures from the labour market. This update is based on the jobs posted on CharityJob during April to June 2026.

Candidate demand hits record high

We again saw year-on-year growth from candidates, with May reaching record levels of clicks on the ‘Apply’ button (CoA) per job posted. This again surpasses the previous record of March 2026.

When looking at the quarter as a whole, the average number of clicks on the ‘Apply’ button was up by 19% year-on-year but was negligibly down on the previous quarter, by 1%.

The month of May was up 26% year-on-year, as candidate demand bucked previous trends. This was heavily influenced by job volumes dropping that month, as total clicks on the ‘Apply’ button remained steady.

Candidate numbers continue to grow

The number of active candidates was up 27% on the previous year, and candidate registrations were up 21%.

We saw slight, but expected, quarter-on-quarter decline across both metrics, due to the usual comparison to the peaks of January in the previous quarter.

Decline in number of jobs posted

The challenges within the labour market continue to affect the number of available roles.

CharityJob saw a decline of 12% in jobs posted compared to the previous year. This is alongside a slight decline of 4% quarter-on-quarter.

Despite the overall decline, the number of jobs posted in June 2026 came close to that of June 2025. This is the closest job posting performance has been to the previous year’s level since September 2025.

HR jobs again showed the most growth

The category with the biggest gap between the number of roles available and the number of clicks on the ‘Apply’ button was, once again, fundraising. Demand for fundraising roles was 36% lower than the overall demand for jobs.

The category with the most roles available this quarter remained as business services, with more than 2,420 jobs posted.

The categories to grow the most were HR and policy, advocacy, governance & campaigns, with increases in the number of jobs posted of 12% and 3% respectively, compared to the previous year.

Demand (measured in clicks on the ‘Apply’ button) for policy, advocacy, governance & campaigns roles reached 83 on average. Operations roles saw a 35% increase in demand compared to the previous year.
