Main Responsibilities of the Treasurer

In relation to the Committee

• Assist the Chair and management committee to formulate strategic plans and regular review of long-term strategic aims of the organisation.
• Inform organisational financial polies
• To present financial reports to the board, including the organisation’s end of year accounts.
• Advice on the financial implications of the organisation’s operational plans and strategies
• Advise on the organisational fundraising strategy
• Ensure that there is no conflict between investment and CIHA’s mission and values.

In relation to the CEO

• Assist the Chair to appoint the CEO and contribute to the process of appraising and constructively guiding the performance of the CEO.
• Assume guardianship of the legal and financial integrity of the organisation.
• Advise the Chair and CEO on matters of financial strategy.
• Oversee the CEO’s activities in the context of financial responsibility
• Together with the Chair maintain careful oversight of any risk to reputation and/or financial standing of the organisation.
• Receive regular informal progress reports of the organisation’s financial performance through the CEO and Chair.

Board Member

As a member of the Board, you will be responsible for the overall governance and strategic direction of the organisation, developing its aims, objectives and goals in accordance with company guidelines, legal and regulatory guidelines, you will help to protect the wealth and assets of the organisation.

Responsibilities:

Ensuring that the organisation complies with internal policy and legislation.

Making sure that the organisation pursues defined goals in line with its stated objectives.

Monitoring the financial position and ensuring that the organisation operates within its means and that there are clear lines of accountability for financial management

Ensuring that the resources of the organisation are used only to pursue legitimate objectives. Contributing to the Board's role of providing strategic direction and supporting the development of policies, goals and targets.

Maintaining the good name of the organisation. Ensuring the financial stability of the organisation. Participating in working groups as necessary.

Attending seminars and networking events when required.

Leading discussions and providing guidance on new initiatives, particularly in areas where the member has specific skills, knowledge or expertise.

Maintaining confidentiality about any sensitive or confidential information Regularly attending and taking a full part in meetings.

Dedication to the role and a willingness to devote the required time. Understanding the importance of carrying out required legal duties. Proven strategic abilities that can be used to create effective plans.

We are particularly interested in applicants who have professional backgrounds in Performance and Insight, LGBT Housing and Governance but welcome applications from anyone with the passion and commitment to our cause.

Meetings are held either in a Central London venue or over Microsoft teams, on weekday evenings once a quarter.

The AGM is held in October and we usually have one strategy day a year in the spring.

TREASURER - VOLUNTEER ROLE

We are looking for a volunteer with experience in UK accounting to join our startup Unlock YOUR Potential in the volunteer role of TREASURER (Remote), where you will lead on the financial management and controls of Unlock YOUR Potential. This includes attending regular meetings via telephone or via Zoom and be able to commit to 6 hours per month as part of the TREASURER duties.

Role Overview:

As the Volunteer, Treasurer, you will play a crucial role within our startup in managing the financial affairs of our charity. Your expertise will ensure compliance with legal accounting practices, effective financial management, and strategic decision-making. This is a remote position with meetings taking place via telephone or via Zoom.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Monitor and safeguard charity funds, including being a key signatory of the charity bank accounts.
2. ​Prepare accurate financial reports and records. Ensure compliance with financial regulations.
3. Prepare budgets and financial statements, submit forecasting and financial reports and implement legislative and financial policies.
4. Lead the charity in all financial matters and aspects.
5. Work closely with the CEO and Finance Manager and other Trustees to ensure the sound financial management of Unlock YOUR Potential.
6. Carry out essential Trustee duties, including those in your role as Treasurer.

Treasurer ​Qualifications:

• Previous UK finance/accounting experience.

The Baked Bean Charity is at an exciting transitional time! The Board of Trustees are recruiting a new Treasurer and Secretary with the skills and expertise to help escalate the charity to the forefront of social care and learning disability arts.

We are seeking experienced trustees who can put use their knowledge and expertise into supporting the charity through an interesting period of transition.

We are seeking passionate individuals with specific knowledge and expertise in at least one of the following areas:

- Charity finance

- Charity and/or business development

- Legal knowledge

- Experience of social care and/or learning disabilities.

- Fundraising

- Marketing

We're looking for a volunteer to fill the role of Trustee and as our Treasurer/Accountant sitting on the Board of Trustees at SUNSHINE. As our Treasurer/Accountant, you’ll lead on the financial management and controls of SUNSHINE, including creating financial systems, processes and policies, lead on banking related matters and register SUNSHINE with HMRC for both Gift-Aid and also PAYE.

​You MUST have UK finance experience and an accounting qualification.

You will also act as a Trustee at SUNSHINE, supporting the work of the Board of Trustees, especially at the set up phase and charity registration process.

You will work with fellow Trustees to;

• Lead and participate in quarterly Trustee Meetings and actively take part in discussions and decisions that benefit SUNSHINE and supporting its impact in the community.
• Provide strategic guidance and direction to the organisation.
• Lead on all financial management and controls at SUNSHINE and Report on the financial aspects of the charity and answer questions at board meetings.
• Register SUNSHINE with the Charity Commission and complete Annual Reports and Audits.
• Register SUNSHINE with HMRC for Gift Aid and lead on the management of this.
• Lead on the creation of a Business Plan and a SUNSHINE 3 year Strategy with other Trustees.
• Lead on and contribute to the development and implementation of organisational policies and procedures with other Trustees.
• Lead on fundraising activities that generate much needed income, including grant writing with other Trustees.
• Support and advise the CEO, ensuring a good working and professional relationship.
• Manage relationships with stakeholders, including donors, partners, and community members.
• Ensure that SUNSHINE has the much needed resources and support it needs to carry out its much needed community work.

Been There is looking for an enthusiastic and experienced individual to join a small, supportive and dynamic team as a Trustee and Secretary of the board. Alongside relevant experience, you will also possess an ability to work to tight deadlines, prioritising multiple tasks, and will be a natural team player with excellent written and spoken English.

What we do

Our focus is on practical help so people can reduce carbon, live sustainably and combat climate change.

We’ve developed an innovative approach to helping people make that transition to sustainable living that has the potential of being scaled up and used nationwide – putting us on the road to zero carbon. We’re working closely with communities to pilot and develop the scheme.

In the next 12 months we planning an events programme to engage inspire the public and businesses, and for collaboration and co-creation for climate action innovation.

How you can help

As Finance Board Member you’ll take on the role of Treasurer. As a key member of a newly enlarged team, you will have a leading role in ensuring we are able to step up our action on climate change and sustainability and the drive to Zero Carbon.

Our partner conducts research, develops recommendations and advocates for reform to make policy and decision-making processes in global governance more accountable to the people they affect now and in the future.

They are seeking a Treasurer to provide financial support and guidance for a resurgent NGO. The Treasurer has responsibility for overseeing maintenance of the accounts, providing quarterly management accounts and annual accounts. The postholder will manage the limited number of payments and also provide financial support to the Board of Trustees, including contributing to funding proposals.

The ideal candidate will have knowledge of UK charity accounting and filing requirements, as well as an interest in global issues and a desire to strengthen the effectiveness of global governance.

The estimated time commitment required for the role is 1-5 hours per month.

Chair and Treasurer - The Baked Bean Charity

Our partner, a US 501(c)(3) non-profit, is a movement of solidarity and action that brings people from all backgrounds together with programs designed to reach out to and engage with people living in persistent poverty.

The Board wants to strengthen its financial oversight of their operations, through the appointment of a finance professional based in the USA, with a keen interest in eliminating poverty, as Treasurer.

The post holder will provide strategic oversight and advice in financial matters, including the annual and medium-term budgets, financial administration and controls, financial reporting, the annual audit, and, if possible, fundraising.

The Board meets monthly, for approximately 90 minutes, online.
