It’s an exciting time to join Victim Support, as we prepare to begin delivery of the Witness Service from April 2026. We look forward to welcoming current Witness Service staff and volunteers to Victim Support — and we’re also now beginning recruitment for several new roles and to fill vacant positions.  

The Witness Service provides free, independent support to any witness giving evidence in criminal courts in England and Wales — both for the prosecution and the defence.  

Our trained staff and volunteers help people understand what to expect before, during and after a trial, and offer practical and emotional support every step of the way, so witnesses can give their best evidence.   

The Witness Service also supports bereaved family members, and friends and family who are accompanying witnesses in court.

This is an exceptional opportunity to help us ensure a smooth transition and shape a high-quality, high-impact and trauma-informed service — so every witness feels informed, supported and more confident in court.  

Witness Service Outreach Volunteers provide support to witnesses when they are attending court, as well as pre-trial and post-trial helping them to feel safe and informed. You will provide support to both prosecution and defence witnesses.

What do we ask of you? 

In order to join us as a Witness Service Volunteer, you must: 

• Be 18 years of age or over. 

• Be able to volunteer for at least 1 day per week, for at least 12 months. 

• Undertake training – this includes virtual training days as well as completing online learning modules. 

• Undertake an Enhanced DBS with Child Barred List check & be part of the DBS Update Service.

• Be able to provide two satisfactory references. 

• Have an active email address that you are comfortable using in order to engage with VS communications.

Background

The National Stalking Helpline is run by Suzy Lamplugh Trust. Suzy Lamplugh Trust is the UK’s pioneering personal safety charity and leading stalking authority, established in 1986 following the disappearance of 25-year-old Suzy Lamplugh whilst at work. We work towards creating a society in which people are safer - and feel safer - from the prevalence of stalking, harassment, aggression and violence, achieved through Supporting people; Education; and Campaigning. Our stalking helpline advice and advocacy service offers support and advice to thousands of victims of stalking every year.

Helpline volunteer role description

We are looking for dedicated, enthusiastic and empathetic volunteers to respond to emails from victims of stalking. Full training will be given so previous experience in these areas is not mandatory.

Skills required:

· Excellent writing skills

· Empathy

· Be able to commit to one evening a week (around 3 hours) for at least 9 months

· Be able to attend the Helpline training dates

· Familiarity with databases is desirable

The Helpline’s opening hours are:

Monday and Wednesday: 9:30-20:00 and Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 09.30-16.00

What support/training will you receive?

Volunteers will receive training in providing support via email, criminal and civil legislation relating to harassment and stalking, domestic violence, personal safety and helpline policies and procedures. Volunteers will have regular 1-1s for support and all emails will be reviewed by a helpline advocate during probation.

Where are we?

We are based in Central London (due to the sensitive nature of the work we do, the location is only revealed once an applicant is successful).

The Alice Ruggles Trust is a leading charity dedicated to tackling stalking through education and training, campaigning, and prevention. We are seeking a Trustee with finance skills to replace our current Treasurer, who has undertaken the role for several years.

Alice Ruggles, aged 24, was murdered in 2016 by an ex-boyfriend following a relentless campaign of stalking. The Alice Ruggles Trust was set up by Alice’s parents to help prevent what happened to Alice happening to others, and ultimately to bring stalking to an end.

We are small but entering a period of significant expansion in response to government initiatives in relation to domestic abuse, violence against women and girls, and stalking. This is a challenging but also an exciting time for us.

We are seeking an experienced finance professional, preferably with experience in the charity sector, who will maintain an overview of the Alice Ruggles Trust’s financial affairs and play an essential role in the strategic planning of the Trustee Board in the months and years to come.
