Duties of a Volunteer Trustee:

You don’t need to have charity admin experience — just good organisational skills, a bit of tech confidence, and a passion for helping young people heal and thrive.

Key Responsibilities:

 Meetings & Records

• Arrange trustee meetings (usually every 1–2 months) and make sure everyone has the agenda and papers in advance.

Governance & Compliance

• Help ensure the charity meets its legal requirements with the Charity Commission.

 Communication & Coordination

• Be the main point of contact for trustee communication — keeping everyone in the loop.

Commitment & Expenses:

Howami is an immersive menstrual wellness app for teens. Howami addresses the growing mental health risks for women, low menstrual literacy, and persistent period stigma. The World Health Organization’s 2023 Menstrual Health report highlights the global need for improved menstrual literacy and awareness. This report emphasizes the importance of education about menstruation and creating positive norms. Our innovation leverages advanced gaming technology for therapeutic outcomes, aiming to counteract the negative effects of social media by promoting embodiment and self-awareness.

Howami is an innovative mobile application designed to help  menstruating individuals engage with their menstrual cycle and emotions through the use of advanced game design technology, CGI visuals, and a fluid, gesture-controlled interface. Our mission is to combat the mental health crisis affecting women, a crisis exacerbated by unhealthy social media usage, lack of menstrual literacy, and persistent period stigma. Our app provides a safe, healthy, and non-exploitative platform tailored to the needs of people.

About Protect Our Winters UK
Protect Our Winters UK (POW UK) is a charity that rallies the outdoor community to drive meaningful action on climate change. We are a community of athletes, scientists, creatives, collaborators, and business leaders advancing non-partisan policies that protect our world today and for future generations.

We were founded in 2017 by a team of UK outdoor enthusiasts (like you) to mobilise the UK outdoor sports community. We work with athletes, creatives, the outdoor community, and outdoor industry to bring about a net zero society.
POW UK is an independent charity, separate from the other Protect Our Winters chapters and responsible for our own funding and campaigns, although we collaborate with international chapters on cross-border campaigns and fundraisers.

We are a growing charity, with an ambitious strategy to expand our reach, influence, and impact across the UK outdoor community.

Role Purpose
We are seeking a trustee with experience in advocacy, public policy or lobbying to help shape and drive POW UK’s efforts to influence government policy, regulatory frameworks and corporate commitments on climate and sustainability. As a trustee, you will have general oversight of the charity, while taking strategic responsibility for advocacy and lobbying initiatives, helping POW UK strengthen its voice and impact.

Bucks Students’ Union is seeking to recruit a new Trustee to join our Board and help support our continued development. We're seeking up to two new trustees with charity experience and local knowledge of in Barrow-in-Furness and South Cumbria who wish to use their skills to support brilliant causes in our community through making grants.

The Sir John Fisher Foundation invests in organisations that serve needs and grow ambitions in the area around Barrow-in-Furness. Our focus is funding core costs and projects that produce sustained results in the community, arts, music and education.

Being a trustee of The Sir John Fisher Foundation is an outstanding opportunity to deepen knowledge of philanthropy and the charity sector, or to build skills in strategy, governance, impact and charity finance.

As a trustee, your role is to work with other trustees to set our strategic direction, oversee the effective running of the charity and participate in the Foundation’s grant-making decisions. This includes:

What will you be doing?

Now is an exciting time to join the Board of Trustees at Friends Without Borders. This role will allow you to put your professional skills to great use for the benefit of individuals who have had to flee their homes and livelihoods. It will also provide you with the opportunity to develop your insight and expertise into all aspects of managing a growing charity. 

The Treasurer is a voluntary role that ensures the financial health and accountability of Friends Without Borders. The role combines strategic oversight, advice and hands-on financial management. Between our Client Services Manager and volunteer Bookkeeper, spreadsheets relating to petty cash, income and expenditure are prepared. Our Treasurer will be responsible for payroll, pension payments and tax returns.

What are we looking for?

Essential

• Professional accounting or finance qualification, or equivalent experience.
• Experience with financial systems and controls, ideally but not essentially in a charity or small organisation.
• Understanding of budgeting, forecasting and long-term financial planning.

Desirable

• Familiarity with charity financial regulations, Gift Aid, restricted funds and statutory reporting.

About Self Help UK

Self Help UK is a leading peer support organisation with over 40 years of experience in developing and delivering peer-led services. Our mission is to empower individuals and communities by embedding peer support principles into health and wellbeing initiatives. We have created a range of innovative programmes that help people living with cancer and other long-term health conditions to navigate challenges and take control of their health and wellbeing.

We work in partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support on projects that make a real difference. These include national and local initiatives for the Deaf community, volunteer-led support for anyone affected by cancer, and prehabilitation services for those facing complex treatment. In 2026, we will collaborate with our Integrated Care System to improve health literacy and increase cancer screening uptake among underserved communities in Nottingham. Looking ahead, we are exploring a new direction to position Self Help UK as a holistic, person-centred support provider, embedding peer support and volunteer-led activity at the heart of everything we do. Our vision is to challenge health inequalities and enable people to feel confident, informed, and supported in shaping their own health journey.

What will you be doing?

You will be chairing the Board of Trustees, ensuring that we have minimum representation required for decisions to be made, keeping the board aligned in decision-making, ensuring all minutes are recorded and that all decisions by trustees are made with the appropriate context provided.

Trustees meetings are usually held every six weeks, plus there is an AGM, away days, and any sub-committee meetings that trustees may be involved in. Most meetings will remain virtual but there will from time to time be a need to attend key meetings and events in Nottingham. The time commitment is approximately 4hours per month, but there may be occasions when more time is required for a short period.

Trustee positions are unremunerated, but reasonable expenses will be reimbursed.

Who are we looking for?

Previous chairing experience

·Relevant experience in any of the following financial management, HR, charities, fundraising, social prescribing, NHS, local authorities, marketing, business development, governance, strategy or legal.

·A willingness to devote the necessary time and effort

·Good, independent judgement

·The ability to challenge and ask questions

·An understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship

·A commitment to Nolan’s seven principles of public life: selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty, and leadership
