The difference you will make to cats and people
Without the passionate and committed teams of volunteers across Cats Protection we wouldn’t be able to help the thousands of cats and kittens each year that rely on us for help. Life in a rescue environment is never ideal for any cat compared to a loving home. Our cat adoption team leaders support cat homing and as part of this they may lead a team of volunteer home visitors who collectively play an important part in matching our feline friends with their new families. Our cat adoption team leaders support their team of volunteers in all aspects of their roles, making sure our volunteers are happy, confident and supported.

What we need from you
You’ll be:
- Acting as the main point of contact within the team for cat adoption enquiries via email/telephone and social media
- Supporting the adoption process through either homefinder questionnaires or a small team of home visitors
- Liaising closely with other volunteers to ensure information on cats being helped is correct and up to date
- Following up on any post-adoption queries
- Play an active part in the volunteer committee, being part of the team leading on cat adoption information and updates
- Collaborating with the cat welfare team leader to ensure the highest standards of cat care are applied in line with Cats Protection policy and procedures
Time expectation
The cat adoption team leader role is vital within our busy volunteer teams. Our current volunteers spend around 10 to 12 hours per week in this flexible role, which can be shared by more than one volunteer if required.

Our Shop Volunteers raise money for the people we support with a Learning Disability. Do you have a few hours a week to spare and share your time with us?
Our retail roles are varied and fun. You could be sorting donations from the public, dressing our window or serving customers on the till. There are many people from different walks of life and it's a great way to get practical experience and to meet new people.
This role will take place on a weekly basis for a few hours We will try our best to be flexible around the best time for you, but also need to consider the store opening times and volunteer rota. It could be a weekday or weekend, morning or afternoon, our stores are usually open 7 days a week. We’d appreciate any time that you can spare.
Whilst in the store, you will help with activities based on the needs of the Store Manager.
**Tasks you could get up to whilst volunteering could include:**
- Serving customers on the till
- Taking stock donations from the public
- Tagging and steaming stock for the shop floor
- Dressing the window displays
- Asking people to join us as a volunteer
**As a Retail Volunteer you will be:**
- Friendly and Approachable

- Willing to volunteer within guidelines and to take direction where necessary
- Accepting of others who might be different to yourself
**As a Mencap volunteer you will:**
- Make new friends and raise important funds for people with a learning disability

The Treasurer is a key officer of the Board of Trustees, providing strategic financial leadership and oversight. The role ensures the Charity’s financial sustainability, compliance with statutory and funder requirements, and effective financial governance, enabling the organisation to deliver its mission and strategic objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
- Contribute to the development and oversight of the Charity’s strategy, with particular focus on financial sustainability and resource planning.
- Advise the Board on financial risks, opportunities, and the implications of strategic decisions.
Financial Oversight
- Ensure the Board receives timely, accurate, and meaningful financial information, including budgets, forecasts, management accounts, and annual accounts.
- Provide assurance that financial reporting complies with regulatory, statutory, and funder requirements.
- Oversee financial controls, policies, and procedures in line with the Charity’s scheme of delegation.
- Oversee the appointment and performance of external auditors and financial advisors.
- Work in close partnership with the Director of Finance to support effective financial management.
Assets, Reserves and Investments
- Ensure appropriate reserves and investment policies are in place and reviewed regularly.
- Monitor investment performance and advise the Board accordingly.
- Ensure the Charity’s assets and equipment are properly maintained, protected, and accounted for.
Governance and Compliance
- Ensure the Board understands and fulfils its financial duties and legal responsibilities.
- Lead regular reviews of financial policies, procedures, and the scheme of delegation.
- Chair the Finance and Governance Sub-Committee and report to the Board.
General Trustee Responsibilities
- Contribute to the Board’s strategic leadership, policy setting, and performance monitoring.
- Ensure the Charity’s resources are applied solely in pursuit of its charitable objectives.
- Safeguard the Charity’s reputation, values, and financial stability.
- Act collectively and responsibly as a Trustee, including declaring and managing conflicts of interest.
- Attend and prepare for Board and sub-committee meetings and participate in additional activities as required.
Skills and Experience
- Financial or commercial expertise sufficient to provide strategic financial oversight (professional qualification desirable but not essential).
- Experience of financial management, governance, or risk oversight.
- Ability to scrutinise financial information, ask constructive challenge, and communicate clearly with both financial and non-financial colleagues.
