At One YMCA we provide a range of varied and exciting volunteer roles - we currently are looking for support at our Horizons (Domestic Abuse) support services based in Bedford.

Some of the tasks and responsibliites include: 

• Supporting the group facilitators to plan weekly sessions
• Setting up the room, including tables, chairs and resources for the participants
• Supporting the facilitator to run particular activities as part of the session delivery
• Ensuring you have a non-judgmental, friendly and approachable demeanour
• Maintaining confidentiality at all times

You will be:

A full induction to the Horizons/Onyx service and specific sites will be provided, including an "Introduction to Domestic Abuse" 1 day training course

You will be required to complete online training, plus a menu of optional training linked the role will be made available.

You will receive regular 1 to 1s and supervision with line manager and oportunities to attend volunteer meetings and events!

Please note you will be required to undergo a DBS check and two references will be taken up prior to commencing the role. 

About Us

Focus Surrey runs a Saturday Club for autistic children aged 3 to 16. We provide a fun, supportive and child-centred environment where children develop communication, social interaction and early learning skills through play, guided by the principles of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA). Sessions are led by experienced practitioners, including Board Certified Behaviour Analysts (BCBAs).

We are recruiting volunteers to join our Saturday Club and support autistic children through play-based activities. This is a great work experience opportunity for students and individuals who are interested in developing their understanding of children with disabilities and gaining meaningful experience in psychology, SEN, education, therapy or related fields. The role supports early career development by offering practical experience in a structured and supportive setting where volunteers can build foundational skills confidence and understanding

The Role

As a Volunteer Play Assistant, you will support autistic children during structured and creative play activities, helping them build communication, social interaction and confidence in a positive and inclusive environment. You will work with qualified practitioners, gaining direct experience using evidence-based approaches such as ABA in practice, while receiving ongoing support and guidance throughout the sessions.

Volunteers are allocated a specific child based on their experience and interests, allowing you to build consistency and rapport over time. The role involves active engagement with children, responding to individual needs, and contributing positively to a collaborative and supportive team environment.

Commitment and Timing

The club will run for 12 Saturdays between February 21st to May 23rd, 2026, from 9am to 4pm each day. Volunteers are encouraged to commit to the majority of the term to ensure consistency for the children and to gain the most from the experience.

Location

The club is based at Merton College in Morden. The venue is a five-minute walk from Morden South Station and is also accessible by bus routes 80, 93, and 154.

The Charity Outreach Worker will deliver structured youth development sessions as part of the Pathways to Purpose programme, supporting young people aged 16–25 to develop employability skills, improve confidence, and transition into employment or further education.

The role focuses on direct programme delivery, participant engagement, and mentoring, ensuring beneficiaries receive practical, skills-based support aligned with the charity’s educational objectives.

Key Responsibilities
Programme Delivery
– Deliver weekly structured sessions focused on employability skills, including communication, confidence building, and career readiness
– Facilitate interactive workshops covering CV development, interview preparation, and workplace expectations
– Support the delivery of both online and in-person programme sessions

Participant Engagement & Support
– Provide one-to-one mentorship to assigned participants, supporting their personal and career development
– Guide participants in identifying strengths, setting goals, and progressing through the programme
– Encourage consistent attendance and active participation throughout the programme

Career Readiness Support
– Support participants in developing CVs and preparing for job applications
– Conduct mock interview sessions and provide structured feedback
– Share practical insights on workplace expectations and professional behaviour

Outreach & Community Engagement
– Engage with young people within the community to promote participation in the programme
– Support programme awareness through community-based engagement activities
– Represent the organisation positively during programme delivery and outreach activities

Programme Impact Support (Non-Admin Framing)
– Contribute to tracking participant progress through structured session feedback and engagement observations
– Support the measurement of programme outcomes such as participation, skill development, and progression into employment or education

Person Specification
Essential:
– Strong communication and interpersonal skills
– Experience working with young people or in community-focused roles
– Ability to facilitate group sessions and engage diverse participants
– Passion for youth development, education, and community impact

Desirable:
– Experience in mentoring, coaching, or training delivery
– Understanding of employability skills and career development pathways

Our trained staff and volunteers help people understand what to expect before, during and after a trial, and offer practical and emotional support every step of the way, so witnesses can give their best evidence.   

The Witness Service also supports bereaved family members, and friends and family who are accompanying witnesses in court.

Witness Service Volunteers provide support to victims and witnesses of crime prior to and during the court process helping them to feel safe and informed.

• Be able to provide two satisfactory references.

Role summary

The “Friends of St Helena Hospice” is our well known Collection Pot scheme that runs across the local area. Yearly the donations from the pots bring in over £20,000 for the hospice, which helps local people facing incurable illness and bereavement. We are looking for Volunteer Pot Collectors in local communities to assist in the collection and distribution of St Helena collection pots to local businesses in and around their own local area.

Due to the nature of this role and the requirements to visit licenced premises, we cannot accept applications from anyone aged 18 and under.

Main duties of the role

• To issue and collect St Helena Collection pots to businesses in the local community in your specific dedicated area.

• Maintain own records relating to those pots and to be always aware which pots are being given out and which are due for collection.

• Build a relationship with businesses that host a pot and liaise with the community team to ensure supply of new pots.

• Look for new pot locations across the area you cover and liaise with the community team to let them know the new locations.

  Training & supervision

Full training and support will be provided in addition to an induction and Health and Safety training. You will also have a line manager who you can report to when needed.

The HR Programme Coordinator plays a pivotal role in driving the success of our flagship professional development initiative. This volunteering role is responsible for managing the end-to-end execution of the HR programme, ensuring seamless coordination between participants, Heads of Department (HoDs), and stakeholders. Without the passionate and committed teams of volunteers across Cats Protection we wouldn’t be able to help the thousands of cats and kittens each year that rely on us for help. Life in a rescue environment is never ideal for any cat compared to a loving home. Our cat adoption team leaders support cat homing and as part of this they may lead a team of volunteer home visitors who collectively play an important part in matching our feline friends with their new families. Our cat adoption team leaders support their team of volunteers in all aspects of their roles, making sure our volunteers are happy, confident and supported.

What we need from you

You’ll be:

• Acting as the main point of contact within the team for cat adoption enquiries via email/telephone and social media
• Supporting the adoption process through either homefinder questionnaires or a small team of home visitors
• Liaising closely with other volunteers to ensure information on cats being helped is correct and up to date
• Following up on any post-adoption queries
• Play an active part in the volunteer committee, being part of the team leading on cat adoption information and updates
• Collaborating with the cat welfare team leader to ensure the highest standards of cat care are applied in line with Cats Protection policy and procedures

Time expectation

The cat adoption team leader role is vital within our busy volunteer teams. Our current volunteers spend around 10 to 12 hours per week in this flexible role, which can be shared by more than one volunteer if required.

We are seeking a Social Media Volunteer to support our communications activity by planning, creating and scheduling content across our digital platforms. This role offers an opportunity to contribute to a meaningful cause while helping to strengthen our online presence and engagement.

What will you be doing (role overview)?:

You will help bring our communications to life by responding to requests from across the organisation and turning them into clear, engaging social media content. You will play an active role in planning posts that support campaigns, share key messages, and ensure our work reaches the right audiences.

What are we looking for (about you)?

We are looking for someone with strong social media experience who can commit around 6 to 16 hours per week and is confident working independently.

You will be comfortable engaging with colleagues across the organisation, taking initiative to shape and plan content as your understanding of our work develops. A proactive approach is important, as you will not only respond to requests but also help identify opportunities to strengthen our messaging.

Experience in using social media analytics is highly beneficial, along with a willingness to support the production of monthly or quarterly insights to help inform our approach.

An understanding of Long Covid or experience communicating within a healthcare context would be advantageous, although this is not essential.

Key Responsibilities:

· Drafting social media copy in line with our communications and brand guidelines.

· Creating simple, engaging visual content using Canva for use across platforms

· Building and scheduling posts in Buffer to support a consistent and timely content plan

· Ensuring a balanced and varied mix of content is planned and delivered across the week

· Adapting messaging and content appropriately for Instagram, BlueSky, LinkedIn and Facebook to suit each audience and platform

What do we ask of you? 

In order to join us as a Witness Service Volunteer, you must: 

• Be 18 years of age or over. 

• Be able to volunteer for at least 1 day per week, for at least 12 months. 

• Undertake training - this includes virtual training days as well as completing online learning modules. 

• Undertake an enhanced DBS check & be part of the DBS update service.

• Be able to provide two satisfactory references. 

• Have an active email address that you are comfortable using in order to engage with VS communications.

It’s an exciting time to join Victim Support, as we prepare to begin delivery of the Witness Service from April 2026. We look forward to welcoming current Witness Service staff and volunteers to Victim Support — and we’re also now beginning recruitment for several new roles and to fill vacant positions.  

The Witness Service provides free, independent support to any witness giving evidence in criminal courts in England and Wales — both for the prosecution and the defence.  

Our trained staff and volunteers help people understand what to expect before, during and after a trial, and offer practical and emotional support every step of the way, so witnesses can give their best evidence.   

The Witness Service also supports bereaved family members, and friends and family who are accompanying witnesses in court.   

This is an exceptional opportunity to help us ensure a smooth transition and shape a high-quality, high-impact and trauma-informed service — so every witness feels informed, supported and more confident in court.  

Witness Service Volunteers provide support to victims and witnesses of crime prior to and during the court process helping them to feel safe and informed.
