From elderly moggies to energic kittens, every day across the UK cats and kittens are in need of a temporary place to stay, and lots of love and TLC! We need more fosterers like you to provide a safe, temporary haven for cats and kittens and provide them with everything they need before they get their chance to land on their four paws and make a house a home.

• A stable, safe and compassionate environment in your home or in a purpose-built pen in your garden provided by us

• Introduce cats to prospective adopters so they can find their forever home

Unfortunately, thousands of cats each year are abandoned or have strayed and rely on charities like Cats Protection for help. Becoming a trap, neuter and return (TNR) volunteer is one way you can make a real difference to cats in your local area. Our TNR volunteers help reduce the number of feral cats by raising awareness of our TNR programmes, setting humane traps to safely capture cats, taking them to local vets to be neutered, and hopefully returning them back to their territory. Local TNR programmes are crucial, as feral and abandoned cats present a huge challenge for communities across the UK.

What we need from you

You’ll be:

• Trapping cats using humane methods
• Taking cats to local vets to be neutered 
• Returning cats to their territory or finding a suitable alternative

The role might also include:

• Regular feeding of feral colonies
• Promoting neutering by building relationships with farmers, land owners and local businesses
• Liaising with vets to promote and arrange neutering 

Time expectation 

This is a flexible role and the hours will vary depending on the number of cats identified for specific TNR campaigns. Our current TNR volunteers spend about 2 to 3 hours per week in this role which can be shared by more than one volunteer if needed.

Our lost and found volunteers are passionate about reuniting lost cats and bringing families back together. They help cats and their owners by advertising lost cats and providing support, advice and guidance to people searching for their cats.

• Keeping up to date records of lost and founds cats
• Matching cats that are reported lost with those reported found
• Advertising lost and found cats
• Providing help and information to owners about their lost cats

Our lost and found volunteers usually spend between 2 to 3 hours per week in this role, which is flexible and can be shared by more than one volunteer if needed.

At Cats Protection we help thousands of cats and kittens each year thanks to our dedicated and passionate volunteer groups. We have branches across the UK, all of which help our cats in different ways. Branches take in stray and abandoned cats and ensure they receive the veterinary care and attention they deserve; help raise funds, promote neutering and help spread cat welfare messages. Our branch team leader volunteers lead their local team by supporting and managing volunteers within their group, maintaining communications with both volunteers and employees, and helping promote a positive and professional image of Cats Protection.

What we need from you

You’ll be:

• Supporting your team of volunteers in all aspects of their roles, making sure volunteers are happy and confident
• Making sure the team observes charity best practice and compliance
• Collaborating with your Branch Development Manager (BDM) to plan volunteer activity
• Leading the team to follow Cats Protection policies, procedures and guidelines
• Monitoring expenditure and helping ensure long term financial stability of the volunteer group
• Organising and chairing team meetings
• Acting as an ambassador for Cats Protection

Time expectation

Our branch team leader volunteers usually spend 10 to 15 hours per week in this role, which is flexible and can be shared by more than one volunteer if needed. There will be times of year when more hours are required, such as towards the end of the financial year, but support and guidance are available.

Without the passionate and committed teams of volunteers across Cats Protection we wouldn’t be able to help the thousands of cats and kittens each year that rely on us for help. The purpose of this role is to support the organisation with communications and administration at a local level. You’ll play an active part in the branch committee and support the branch with record keeping and planning, thus enabling more cats to be helped.

What we need from you

You’ll be:

• Disseminating relevant organisation-wide information and updates to the branch volunteers
• Supporting engagement and communication between the branch and wider organisation
• Drafting committee meeting agendas and taking and sharing meeting minutes
• Supporting the efficient running of the branch by ensuring administration processes are carried out effectively
• Supporting the administration and update of the branch annual plan 
• Sign-posting queries from members of the public
• Keeping branch records and information up to date and secure, using Cats Protection systems – training will be provided

Time expectation

Our support volunteers usually spend 2-5 hours per week in this role, which is flexible and can be shared by more than one volunteer if needed.

RideWise is looking for new Trustees to help guide the charity through its next stage of development.

We are particularly keen to hear from people with experience in one or more of the following areas:

• Charity finance and financial oversight
• HR and organisational leadership
• The NHS, public health or demonstrating health impact

About RideWise

RideWise is a Nottingham-based charity that helps people lead healthier, happier and more sustainable lives through walking, cycling and active travel.

We work with communities across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire, supporting thousands of people each year. Our work includes cycle training, walking programmes, community engagement, accessible cycling, bike recycling and practical support to help people travel more actively.

The role

As a Trustee, you will work with the rest of the Board and our senior management team to:

• Help shape RideWise’s strategy and future direction
• Provide constructive support and challenge
• Oversee the charity’s finances, governance and management of risk
• Bring knowledge and insight from your area of expertise
• Act as an ambassador for RideWise and the communities we support

All Trustees share responsibility for the overall governance of the charity. You do not need previous trustee experience, provided you are willing to learn and can bring relevant skills, sound judgement and a commitment to our work.

Who we are:

WECare Worldwide is a UK and Sri Lankan registered charity set up by veterinary surgeon Janey Lowes. Our mission is to provide international standard veterinary care for less fortunate dogs around the world, starting in Sri Lanka. The WECare Team is made up of passionate, dedicated and brilliant individuals who work extremely hard to achieve the aim of dramatically improving the outlook for street dogs worldwide. With 75% of the globe’s dog population going without access to healthcare. We want to plug that gap and provide them with a whole lot of love while we do it!

Primary purpose of the role:

The Trustee (Treasurer) role forms part of our dedicated and passionate Board of Trustees. This voluntary position plays a vital role in ensuring the charity remains financially sustainable, well-governed and able to maximise its impact for dogs in need. As Treasurer, you will work closely with the Chair, fellow Trustees and senior management to oversee the charity’s financial affairs, ensuring appropriate financial management, reporting and compliance with Charity Commission requirements.

The Treasurer is not expected to undertake the day-to-day bookkeeping but will provide strategic financial oversight and support as required.

Key responsibilities:

1. Provide strategic oversight of the charity’s financial affairs.

2. Monitor the charity’s financial performance and long-term sustainability.

3. Review management accounts, budgets and financial forecasts.

4. Help ensure appropriate financial controls, policies and risk management processes are in place.

5. Present financial information to the Board in a clear and accessible manner when required.

6. Support the preparation and approval of the annual accounts and liaise with the charity’s independent examiner or auditors as required.

7. Use expertise to support and guide the charity’s Finance Team, as required.

8. Ensure the charity complies with all relevant financial, legal and regulatory requirements.

9. Advise the Board on financial implications of strategic decisions and major projects.

10. Work collaboratively with fellow Trustees to support effective governance.

11. Act as an ambassador for WECare Worldwide and promote the charity’s mission and values.

Key Attributes:

Essential:

• A genuine passion for animal welfare and the mission of WECare Worldwide.
• Accountancy or finance qualifications or significant professional finance or accountancy experience.
• An understanding of financial management, budgeting and financial reporting.
• Ability to interpret financial information and communicate it clearly to non-financial colleagues.
• Good strategic thinking and sound judgement.
• Commitment to good governance and the responsibilities of charity Trustees.
• Strong integrity, professionalism and attention to detail.
• Excellent communication and collaborative working skills.

Desirable:

• Previous experience as a charity Trustee or Treasurer.
• Knowledge of Charity Commission regulations and charity finance.
• Experience of financial risk management.
• Experience within the charity or not-for-profit sector.
• An overview understanding of fundraising or grant-funded organisations.

Time Commitment:

At WECare, we understand that being a Trustee is a voluntary role and we are conscious of, and grateful for, the valuable time our Trustees give. We are an active Board, and anticipate a realistic time commitment of around 4 to 8 hours per month.

• Attendance at regular Board meetings (typically held online) with a minimum of 4 meetings per year.
• Attendance at the Annual General Meeting.
• Reasonable preparation time for Board papers and financial reports.
• Occasional additional meetings with the Chair or senior management as required.

A bit more information about this role and the team

Fosterers open their hearts and homes, looking after cats until they’re adopted.

To be a fosterer:

• you will require your own home, or written permission from your landlord to foster cats
• to be 18 years or older
• experience of caring for pets or a willingness to learn about care care. We can provide all the training and support you need 
• a good-sized room in your house just for your foster cat, or a garden or suitable outdoor space where we can put an outdoor pen 
• access to transport to take your cat to any appointments

Life in a rescue environment is never ideal for any cat compared to a loving home. Our cat adoption team leaders support cat homing and as part of this they may lead a team of volunteer home visitors who collectively play an important part in matching our feline friends with their new families. Our cat adoption team leaders support their team of volunteers in all aspects of their roles, making sure our volunteers are happy, confident and supported.

What we need from you

You’ll be:

• Acting as the main point of contact within the team for cat adoption enquiries via email/telephone and social media
• Supporting the adoption process through either homefinder questionnaires or a small team of home visitors
• Liaising closely with other volunteers to ensure information on cats being helped is correct and up to date
• Following up on any post-adoption queries
• Play an active part in the volunteer committee, being part of the team leading on cat adoption information and updates
• Collaborating with the cat welfare team leader to ensure the highest standards of cat care are applied in line with Cats Protection policy and procedures

Time expectation

The cat adoption team leader role is vital within our busy volunteer teams. Our current volunteers spend around 10 to 12 hours per week in this flexible role, which can be shared by more than one volunteer if required.

What we need from you

You’ll be:

• Volunteering alongside colleagues including the branch coordinator/team leader, Cat Welfare team, branch development manager and Vet team to ensure that cat care policies, procedures and standards are applied
• Support fosterers to follow cat welfare policies and procedures
• Acting as the main point of contact within the branch for cat welfare and ensuring that welfare updates are shared and implemented effectively
• Supporting the branch by ensuring that accurate and up to date records of all cats helped are maintained, using specified systems
• Attending relevant volunteer training sessions and encouraging other volunteers to do likewise
• With the other volunteers, recruit, induct and support all branch fosterers and cat care volunteers
• Represent the branch at relevant meetings
• Play an active part in the branch committee, being part of the branch team leading on cat adoption information and updates
• Collaborating with the cat adoption team leader to ensure the highest standards of cat care are applied in line with our policies and procedures

Time expectation

The time expectation for this role will vary depending on the number of volunteers and cats in care. Our cat welfare team leaders usually spend between 10 to 12 hours per week in this role which is flexible and can be shared by more than one volunteer if needed.
