The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Southwark covers the geographical area of the whole of London south of the Thames, all of Kent and the eastern parts of Surrey. With currently 180 parishes, 171 schools and 450 employees it is one of the largest dioceses in the UK.
The Diocese Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) is run by a Board of Trustees, who are responsible for determining the strategic direction of the Diocese, management of the assets, the smooth running of the day-to-day administration and the legal discharge of its responsibilities.
The role of a Lay Trustee is about helping the Archdiocese achieve its ambitious vision for evangelisation and leading people to Christ, while especially promoting our diverse and vibrant communities. The Archdiocese is seeking to secure a range of skills and expertise in the appointments, which include legal, property or safeguarding. Experience within the education sector may be helpful.
In addition to the general duties and responsibilities outlined by the Charity Commission of England and Wales, Lay and Clerical Trustees collaborate to help shape the strategic vision of the charity and work closely with the Chief Operating Officer and his team focussed on key functions including education, fundraising and property management.
This will mostly be achieved through attendance at the Trustee meetings, which take place at least once a quarter. There is a minimum requirement of three meetings a year, with additional meetings for the first year.
Lay Trustees must be practicing Catholics, but they do not have to be Southwark Archdiocese parishioners.

What the role involves
As a Trustee, you will contribute to:

- Leading on a specific area of work (e.g., finance, conferences, events, governance), depending on your interests and skills

- Five 90‑minute board meetings per year (online) plus our AGM in the autumn

Having grown substantially over the past 12 years, we are moving into a new era of development. This includes and celebrates the 50th anniversary of the founding of the theatre which takes place in 2027.
Our current Trustee for Finance retires shortly, and we seek a new Finance/Director to take forward this key area.
As Trustee responsible for Finance, you will have specific responsibilities for
- providing financial guidance to the Board on matters put before it
- chairing quarterly meeting of the F&GP Committee
- oversight of financial management through monthly meetings with senior finance team

Overview of the role
We are seeking three or four individuals to be active members, and maybe a future Vice-Chair, of our Board of Trustees, working collaboratively with other trustees, staff, volunteers, and stakeholders to help the Foodbank in pursuit of its Vision and Strategic Plan. The Trustee will also be expected to lead on certain areas and initiatives, as required by the charity, and which utilises the Trustees experience and skills.

· ensure that Stratford Upon Avon Foodbank complies with and pursues its objects as defined in its governing document, charity and company law, and other relevant legislation or regulations
· ensure that the Foodbank applies its resources exclusively in pursuance of its objects
· give firm strategic direction to the Foodbank contributing to the Foodbank’s strategic plan, helping set policies, defining goals, setting targets, and evaluating performance against agreed targets
· appoint the Foodbank manager and monitor their performance
· safeguard the good name and ethos of the Foodbank
· ensure the effective and efficient administration of the Foodbank
· lead and/or serve on sub-committees and attendance at various other meetings, including with the charity’s staff, volunteers, and stakeholders.
· ensure an understanding of, and commitment to, the principles of equality, equity, diversity and inclusion
It is hoped that Trustees will also undertake additional work for the charity between meetings subject to their availability and skill set.

Our shops are a hive of activity and the heart of the local community. They raise funds to support our vital work and provide a place to find out more about how we help older people in the local area.
Our Stock Preparation Volunteers always enjoy being part of our shop teams; making new friends and helping the charity to maximise the income from the amazing items people donate to us.
In this role you will usually be working in our donation sorting area, which is off the shop floor. Here you will help the team process, prepare and price the items people donate.
We receive hundreds of bags of clothing, bric-a-brac, toys, games and all sorts of items every week. You will help us to turn these into vital funds to support our work.
After full training you will be part of our processing team; sorting through the donated items, identifying those which we should sell, preparing them and pricing before they are put onto the shop floor.
You may have a particular area of experience, such as clothing, books or antiques. Your skills and knowledge will help us to gain the best value for each item and some of our volunteers even coordinate entire sections, such as a book rooms within our stores.
When people come in to donate their items you will be helping to thank them for their support. Many items are Gift Aided so when processing the items you will ensure that Gift Aid labels are attached so that we can gain this additional vital income.
You will help to make our products look amazing; steaming clothes (if this is your area) and helping to clean and make every item look great and ready for sale.
It would be ideal if you could volunteer at least one shift a week, which is about three hours but we're also happy to have more flexible times. No special skills are needed as we will show you what to do and will provide all the training you need.

We are seeking new members to join our Audit & Risk Assurance Committee, which plays a vital role in supporting good governance within the Church. The Committee reports to the Connexional Council, which is the trustee body of the MCB.
About You
We are keen to recruit a member with operational experience of the church – this could be a minister or a lay person with significant experience of the day to day workings at church, circuit or district level. We are also looking for a member who has IT experience and can assist the committee with issues relating to AI, Cyber Security and Digital.
Working collaboratively with other members of the committee, you will bring your professional skills and experience to bear across the committee’s responsibilities. Not only will you have an understanding of the Church, you will also bring a ‘critical friend’ mindset to scrutinising the accounts and governance framework of the Connexional Council. As the Church continues to develop its mission, maintaining effective governance is a vital task.

The role of the Governing Body includes collective oversight of the College’s activities and setting and reviewing
our strategy and mission. The governor role is comparable with the non-executive directors of a public company
but instead of being accountable to shareholders, governors are accountable for public funds. As the College is an exempt charity, all governors are charity trustees.
Being a governor is a hugely rewarding leadership role. Governors can make a real difference and give something
