We are looking for a friendly and reliable Scout Shop Volunteer to help run our shop at Rough Close Scout Campsite & Activity Centre.
The Scout Shop is a key part of the campsite, providing Scouts, leaders, volunteers and visitors with everything from uniform and badges to sweets and Rough Close memorabilia.
You’ll help keep the shop running smoothly every other Saturday, providing a welcoming and helpful service to everyone who visits the campsite.
What you’ll be doing
- Opening and closing the Scout Shop
- Serving customers and processing sales
- Selling Scout uniform, badges, sweets, souvenirs and Rough Close memorabilia
- Helping customers find the items they need
- Answering basic questions about products and availability
- Keeping the shop clean, tidy and well presented
- Restocking shelves and displays
- Checking stock levels and highlighting items that need replenishing
- Receiving and putting away deliveries when required
- Handling cash and card payments
- Helping maintain accurate stock and sales records
- Supporting occasional promotions, events and special sales
- Working with other Rough Close volunteers to provide a friendly experience for visitors
What we’re looking for
You don’t need previous retail experience — full training will be provided.
We’re looking for someone who is:
- Friendly, approachable and comfortable talking to people
- Reliable and able to commit to working every other Saturday
- Organised and happy working independently when required
- Comfortable handling money and using a card payment system
- Happy to learn about Scout uniform, badges and other products
- Practical and willing to get involved with whatever needs doing
- Supportive of the values and aims of Scouting
Previous experience in retail, customer service, stock management or Scouting would be useful, but is not essential.
Volunteer perks
As a thank you for giving your time to Rough Close, volunteers receive a free cooked breakfast on their volunteering day.
Because volunteering is better when there’s good food involved!
Time commitment
The Scout Shop is open from 10:00am until 4:00pm, with a one-hour lunch break.
The role operates on an every-other-Saturday rota, meaning you would normally volunteer on alternate Saturdays rather than every week.
What you’ll get from volunteering
- A free cooked breakfast on your volunteering day
- The opportunity to support the local Scouting community
- Experience in retail, customer service and stock management
- The chance to meet Scouts, leaders, parents and visitors from across the area
- A friendly and varied volunteering environment
- The satisfaction of helping keep an important campsite facility running
- The opportunity to become part of the wider Rough Close volunteer team
