Volunteer Trustee opportunities

We are seeking to appoint new Trustees to become actively involved in the strategic direction, governance and decision making of the charity.  As a Trustee you will join a dynamic and supportive team committed to making a difference to people affected by cancer.  With a new, incoming Chair, this is an exciting time to join the Board as it works toward shaping the charity’s future.  The role offers the opportunity to make a lasting impact while providing a rewarding and satisfying experience that enables personal development and growth.

The charity is happy to hear from people across the country and in particular anyone with the following experience or expertise.

Healthcare
Medical Practitioners or Allied Health Professionals with recent experience of working with cancer patients/or cancer treatment, ideally within the NHS.

Commercial
The Penny Brohn UK National Centre offers external organisations a unique environment for their own business use which includes daily and residential bookings as well as tenancy agreements.  Due to a successful period of growth in recent years, the charity would welcome the expertise of a Trustee with significant experience in this area who can support the development of this income stream further.

Support for new Trustees
New Trustees are fully supported through a planned induction into the organisation, starting with an introduction to each area of the Charity.

Time commitment
The Trustee Board meet four times in-person each year at the National Centre in Bristol on Fridays, generally between 9am – 4pm.  Trustee representation is also required on one or two online sub-committees, which are held up to four times per year for each committee and Trustees will be appointed to the sub-committees once recruited into post in accordance with their relevant skills and experience.  Attendance is also required for the AGM and an annual Trustee Away Day as well as occasional events or strategic discussions

Attendance at Key Events
As ambassadors for the Charity, the Trustee Board is encouraged to ensure that there is Trustee representation at key events throughout the calendar year such as fundraising, networking and other high-profile events.

Tenure
Trustees are appointed for a three-year term with a maximum appointment of four terms (12 years).

 Expenses
All Trustees are eligible to be reimbursed for expenses incurred whilst on Board business, this includes attendance at Board Meetings.  Eligible expenses include:

• Reimbursement of petrol costs, rate currently set at 45p per mile, (15p per mile after 500 miles incurred annually) or the equivalent 2nd class rail fare, whichever is the lower.
• Any car parking fees associated with the travel.

 Role summary - To participate as a member of the Maintenance Team covering general maintenance, domestic and health and safety duties. A good level of fitness is required for this role. Due to proximity to patients in the hospice, this role requires an enhanced DBS check. 

Main duties of the role - 

• To undertake simple maintenance tasks such as painting, PPM (planned preventative maintenance), erecting shelving, sweeping external areas, jet washing of terrace furniture, removal of weeds, hedge trimming, and other tasks relating to the upkeep of the site.

• To assist the maintenance team where needed to deliver and collect from Colchester General Hospital and EBME.

• To assist the maintenance team with the setting up and dismantle of rooms for meetings, ensuring all furniture and equipment requested is supplied.

• To report any maintenance, security or health and safety issues to the maintenance team

• To always wear personal protective equipment required for any task.

• To liaise with contractors and suppliers as required.

• To respect at all times the confidentiality of information including patients, staff and volunteers.

• To conduct any other maintenance duties as requested by the Estates & Facilities team.

Training & supervision - 

• Online training including health and safety is mandatory

• Full training in relation to the role will be provided

Our Finance team ensures smooth and transparent financial operations for the branch by maintaining accurate records, processing payments, and supporting financial reporting. This role suits someone organised, reliable, and comfortable working with spreadsheets or accounting software.

The RSPCA MILTON Keynes & North Bucks Branch

The MILTON Keynes & North Bucks Branch is one of the branches of RSPCA, but we are also a separately registered charity looking after animals in our local area. Much of the animal welfare work of RSPCA is carried out through local branches, which is run by volunteers who have the support of the National Society of RSPCA.

Finance & Accounts Assistant Volunteer responsibilities

• Process supplier invoices accurately and in a timely manner using Xero accounting software.
• Account for and monitor VAT on relevant transactions.
• Maintain and manage the finance email inbox, responding to queries and organising finance-related correspondence.
• Extract invoices from supplier portals and process them within the finance system.
• Process and reconcile redeemed Animal Welfare Vouchers, ensuring accurate recording and marking off against issued vouchers.
• Assist with general finance administration and record-keeping as required.

What we are looking for in a Finance & Accounts Assistant Volunteer

• Experience in bookkeeping, accounts administration, finance, or a related field.
• Familiarity with Xero accounting software is desirable.
• Understanding of VAT principles would be beneficial.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Good organisational and time-management skills.
• Ability to work independently and maintain confidentiality.
• Comfortable using email, spreadsheets, and online portal.

Uniform Manager

Challenge Adventure Group (“CAG” for short and the operating name of CAG Trust) is a voluntary youth organisation for Knowle, Dorridge and beyond aimed at boys aged 10 and above.

As our name suggests, we provide challenging, adventurous and fun activities and the D of E Award for young people in their leisure time. Taking part in fun experiential activities enables members to develop their physical and mental skills and capacities and reach their full potential of becoming positive, active and happy citizens.

Summary

CAG was formed in 2009 and became a charity, CAG Trust, in 2019.  We have a distinctive uniform for meeting nights and for when we’re out and about on trips.  We are proud of our branding and both members and leaders enjoy wearing our variety of rugby-style shirts, cosy fleeces, soft shell jackets and hats.

When we do really special trips, like our legendary ski trip, we design a uniform specifically for that event - it’s different each time and serves as a reminder of what an awesome time was had by all participants.  All our uniform is high quality, long lasting and is built to withstand all our challenging adventures whether it be indoor climbing or scaling Snowdon.

We are looking for a volunteer to monitor and organise uniform orders, log and chase payments and distribute to / from suppliers and to / from members.

Description

Responsibilities:

• Carry out an annual audit of the uniform stock and liaise with the Treasurer and Membership Secretary to ensure that there are enough supplies available for each age group / size.

• Keep the uniform stock tidy and in good order by ensuring everything is in the right place.

• Maintain an inventory of items and keep track of numbers sold and numbers required.

• Research and source suppliers selling good quality, hardwearing kit.

• Ensure that suppliers are providing good value for money.

• Monitor and organise uniform orders in good time to restock supplies.

• Liaise with the Membership Secretary to remain aware of new members and their uniform requirements.

• Log and chase payments in conjunction with the Treasurer.

• Communicate frequently with the Group Leader and CAG Management Committee to keep them up to date.

We are looking for a volunteer who ideally should have / be:

• Commitment to CAG and its ethos.

• Organised and tidy.

• Self-motivated, proactive and good at managing your own time.

• The ability to build and maintain relationships.

• A proactive attitude.

• The ability to work as part of a team.

• A willingness to carry out a range of administrative tasks.

Where will the volunteer be working?

The volunteer can partially work from home and will also be required to attend some weekly Tuesday night club meetings at Bickenhill to check on and distribute the uniform stock.
