As a volunteer trustee, you will play a key role in shaping the future of our community-focused charity, ensuring that we continue to deliver vital services and support for the people of East Bowling and beyond.
About BD4 Community Trust
Supporting and Restoring Community across the Generations. BD4 Community Trust is a local charity committed to improving the lives of individuals and families in the BD4 area. We provide a range of services, including support for vulnerable groups, community events, educational programmes, and initiatives to tackle social isolation and disadvantage. Our mission is to create a thriving, inclusive, and resilient community for all.
Our BD4 Family project works to help families to come together to learn, share and grow, where they can feel safe to enjoy quality time together and access encouragement and support when needed. The groups we run support the needs of our ever-expanding community by really listening to families and encouraging them to be part of our decision making and offering opportunities to volunteer and get involved.
Gems has been running since 1983 and works with the older members of our community delivering a variety of activities each week with additional activities at times throughout the year. The project provides opportunities for older people to make friends, participate in healthy activities, enjoy a nutritional meal, and enjoy the occasional day trip out.
Role of a Trustee
As a trustee, you will:
- Contribute to the strategic direction of the charity.
- Ensure that BD4 Community Trust remains financially sustainable.
- Provide support and oversight to the charity’s staff and volunteers.
- Help build partnerships with other community organisations, local authorities, and stakeholders.
- Ensure that the charity complies with all legal and regulatory requirements.
- Bring your skills, experience, and enthusiasm to help us grow and achieve our mission.
Who We're Looking For
We are seeking individuals with a variety of skills and experiences, including (but not limited to):
- Leadership and governance experience.
- Knowledge of community development or charitable work.
- Financial or legal expertise.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Passion for improving the lives of those in the BD4 community.
We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and encourage diversity in our board. Whether you have experience in the third sector, business, education, or other fields, your unique perspective will be invaluable to our work.
Time Commitment
- Trustees are expected to attend quarterly Board meetings (approximately 2 hours per meeting on an evening).
- Additional time may be required for training and community events.
- The role is voluntary, and reasonable out-of-pocket expenses will be reimbursed.

What we need from you
This is a highly flexible role, and you can choose how you’d like to get involved. Opportunities include:

- Online fundraising – setting up online appeals and writing engaging cat case studies to maximise donations
- Marketing and promotion – spreading the word about fundraising activities via social media and local press
- Administration – processing donations, sorting and recording donated goods, and completing Gift Aid paperwork
- Championing our work – helping to develop new fundraising ideas and increasing community engagement
- Photography – capturing images of cats in care, cats we’re helping, fundraising events, and all things Cats Protection

This role is flexible and designed to fit around your other commitments. You’ll be part of a friendly team raising vital funds — and having fun along the way.

Last year 786,574 people were offered information and support from Victim Support. As a VS Community Engagement Fundraising Volunteer, you will help us reach more victims of crime.

Volunteering with Victim Support in Essex
As a Volunteer in Essex your role will include:
- Organising and attending events and meetings to raise our VS profile
- Engaging with our local communities to inform them about crime and our work
- Gaining experience in planning and organising events and delivering presentations.
- Working in partnerships with local Community Voluntary Services (CVS), universities and other local partnership organisations.
- Representing Victim Support at CVS events, university events, pride events and local fetes.
What we ask of you?
In order to join us as a Community Engagement Volunteer, you must:
- Be 18 years of age or over.
- Be able to volunteer for at least 2-4 hours per month, for at least 6 months.
- Complete a 3-day workbook.
- Undertake a DBS check where required
- Be able to provide two satisfactory references.
- Have an active email address that you are comfortable using in order to engage with VS communications.
Expenses
- All Victim Support volunteers are entitled to out-of-pocket expenses incurred whilst volunteering, including travel and lunch.

A bit about this role:
As a charity we can help thousands of cats each year thanks to the generous donations from our supporters. Raising funds is a key role in our charity, helping to raise the vital funds needed to help more cats and kittens in need.
As a fundraising volunteer, we will support you every step of the way to ensure your time at Cats Protection is a positive and rewarding one. Whatever time you can give really does make a big difference We have lots of exciting activities to choose from for example attending a fundraising event, fundraising online, promoting fundraising activities on social media, handling administrative tasks, or contributing to the development of new fundraising ideas. Whatever your skill set, this role could be perfect for you!
What can you expect to be doing?
As a flexible role, you have the choice to be involved in the following:
- face-to-face fundraising – organising or helping with fundraising events, attending supermarket collections and monitoring collection boxes.
- online fundraising – assisting with online appeals, increasing social media engagement to maximise funds raised.
- bringing new ideas! We always love to come up with new ideas to raise funds for cats and we’d love to help bring yours to life.
- engaging with your local branch and Fundraising Hub and feeling like an integral part of the team.

Time expectation
This role is very flexible, often certain times of the year are busier than others. You can choose your level of involvement to suit your schedule.
Support, guidance and keeping you safe
At Cats Protection we believe our volunteers should be happy and confident in their roles. We provide support and guidance from our National Cat Centre and through our regional and local volunteer groups and teams. We offer engaging online and face-to-face training, expenses and have policies and processes to help volunteers get the most out of their time with us.
The well being of our people is important and at Cats Protection we are committed to safeguarding children, adults at risk and all those that we encounter as part of our activities.
