Rural Watch Africa Initiative (RUWAI) is a nonprofit organization empowering rural communities across Nigeria through sustainable agriculture, climate action, ecosystem restoration, youth development, and community resilience.

We aim to reduce poverty and promote environmental stewardship in some of Africa’s most vulnerable regions. We are seeking a skilled volunteer to use storytelling, media engagement, and strategic communication to drive social and environmental impact.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and implement communication strategies to raise awareness of RUWAI’s work.
• Create compelling content (articles, social media posts, newsletters, press releases, donor reports).
• Manage and grow RUWAI’s social media platforms and online presence.
• Support the design and dissemination of impact stories, campaign materials, and advocacy content.
• Liaise with media, partners, and stakeholders to promote RUWAI’s initiatives.
• Assist in organising communication for events, project launches, and campaigns.

Ideal Candidate:

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience in social media management, content creation, event planning, fundraising, or journalism.
• Knowledge of environmental and rural development issues is a plus.
• Graphic design, photography, or video editing skills are an advantage.

At St John Ambulance, we are looking to develop our volunteering offer and become an even more integral part of our communities through delivering community first aid and education. 

We need people who have a passion for helping others, care about their communities and want to make a difference. Through volunteering as an Emergency Responder, you’ll get a huge sense of satisfaction and pride delivering essential first aid and lifesaving clinical care at community and major events in your areas, including at sporting events, concerts, community festivals.

We will make sure you will have access to a proper induction to volunteering with SJA and the training you need for the role you take on. The Emergency Responder role will see you bring your clinical skills to all kinds of events here in Plymouth. Whether that be at the bigger events such as British Firework Championships and Armed Forces Day, or whether that be at smaller local events such as fetes, local farm summer fairs, school fayres, or a regular Saturday at Plymouth Albion Rugby. You could have the opportunity to become part of a wonderful team at our Plymouth Network, delivering a higher scope of clinical practice and giving back to the community. You don’t need to be a parent or have any specific skills to become a governor as long as you’re over 18 and happy to have a DBS check, you can apply! Professional skills such as HR, finance, law or project management are useful but governing boards are often needing softer skills such as leadership, communication and problem solving alongside a fresh perspective and lived experience within their communities. As a governor, you’ll be supported by the Chair, head teacher and the rest of the governing team.

Educational partnerships and community developers wanted to help East London Waterworks Park deliver its environmental learning goals

East London Waterworks Park is a volunteer-led charity that has won a 2024 New London Architecture award and raised £2m towards buying land from the Department for Education to transform the 14-acre Thames Water Depot on Lea Bridge Road on the border of Waltham Forest and Hackney, into a new biodiverse park with natural swimming ponds, forest schools and community spaces. 

We are looking for a volunteer to lead partnership development and community outreach efforts for East London Waterworks Park. This role focuses on building and nurturing relationships with learning bodies to increase the opportunity for partnership opportunities. 

The role would include:

• Researching and identifying new opportunities for environmental learning initiatives
• Building and nurturing relationships with schools, education bodies, and nonprofit organizations
• Supporting outreach efforts to promote ELWP’s existing learning programmes

The Learning Circle currently meets monthly on a Wednesday evening at 8pm for an hour on Google Meet and spends voluntary time outside of the meeting completing agreed tasks remotely.

We welcome individuals with experience in outreach, partnership building, education, or nonprofit engagement. Strong communication and relationship-building skills are key. Our roles are quite flexible. We hope that people bring radical imagination, peace with nature, and courageous inclusiveness to the role.

Your support will help young people and learners improve their environmental knowledge of design and research as well as contributing to our community-owned park. This will in turn provide a sense of stewardship over the land once the park is created and student's ideas have been built into the park. Creating learning projects with educational institutions will also help our charity with the strategy to buy the land through showing the value of our environmental education programme before we create the park. 

You will have a significant impact on the creation of a new biodiverse community-owned park with free access natural swimming ponds. Our St Andrews Shop Volunteers are in the middle of it all, and there’s plenty to get involved with. You might be sorting and pricing stock, engaging with customers, ringing items through the till, creating fantastic window displays or keeping our shop floor looking organised.

It’s up to you how much you commit. We have volunteers who support for a couple of hours a week and some do more. Many people volunteer either a morning or an afternoon each week - this is something that will be discussed at the selection stage, after you’ve applied.

Overview of the opportunity

Our branch runs and attends a range of fundraising events across the year, and we rely on volunteers to help make these a success. We are recruiting volunteers to join an events and fundraising pool, who can be called upon when events, collections or opportunities arise.

Volunteer Events & Fundraising responsibilities

Depending on the event, volunteers may be asked to help with:

• Attending fundraising events on behalf of the branch

Previous trustee experience isn’t required, and you will be supported into the role through an onboarding and induction process.

○ guide and advise the Board on the approval of budgets and annual accounts within current legislation

○ keep the Board informed of its statutory financial duties and responsibilities
