Job description

Volunteer Opportunity: Fundraising Team Member

Help Power a New Movement Tackling Loneliness Across London

Location: Hybrid (London focus)

Time Commitment: Flexible, approx. 3–6 hours per week

Salary: Voluntary

Reports To: Founder & CEO

About SUNSHINE Charity

Loneliness is one of the most profound challenges facing our communities — but together, we can change that.

SUNSHINE Charity is a new, volunteer‑powered organisation dedicated to reducing loneliness and social isolation by creating warm, joyful, inclusive spaces where people can meet, connect, and feel part of something bigger.

We believe that connection is a human need. We believe that joy is a form of care. We believe that community can change lives.

To bring SUNSHINE to life across London — and eventually beyond — we need passionate volunteers who can help us secure the funding that will make our work possible.

The VOLUNTEER Opportunity

As a Fundraising Team Member, you will play a vital role in helping SUNSHINE grow from a bold idea into a thriving community charity.

You’ll help us tell the story of loneliness. You’ll help us show why SUNSHINE matters. And you’ll help us secure the support we need to launch our programmes, reach isolated people, and build communities of belonging.

Whether you’re experienced in fundraising or simply confident communicating, writing, or building relationships, you can make a powerful difference.

Your work will help ensure that no one in London has to face loneliness alone.

What You’ll Be Doing

Depending on your skills and interests, you may support:

  • Researching and identifying potential funders, donors, and grant opportunities

  • Writing compelling grant applications and funding proposals

  • Helping craft persuasive fundraising messages, stories, and cases for support

  • Reaching out to local businesses, community groups, and supporters

  • Supporting small fundraising campaigns and appeals

  • Helping develop fundraising materials, presentations, and pitches

  • Assisting with donor stewardship and thank‑you communications

  • Contributing creative ideas for raising seed funding

  • Working closely with the CEO, trustees, and volunteers to build a sustainable income pipeline

You don’t need to do all of these — we’ll shape the role around your strengths.

Who We’re Looking For

You don’t need formal fundraising experience — though it’s a bonus. If you’re a strong communicator, a natural storyteller, or someone who enjoys building relationships, you already have the foundations.

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Is passionate about tackling loneliness and building community

  • Can write clearly, warmly, and persuasively

  • Enjoys communicating with people and building connections

  • Is confident reaching out to potential supporters

  • Is reliable, proactive, and comfortable taking initiative

  • Can work independently but also collaborate with a small team

  • Is comfortable using email, online meetings, and basic digital tools

  • Shares SUNSHINE’s values of kindness, inclusion, and joy

Experience in fundraising, sales, communications, marketing, grant writing, or partnership building is helpful — but not essential.

Why Volunteer With SUNSHINE?

This role offers the chance to:

  • Help launch a brand‑new community charity from the ground up

  • Shape the fundraising foundations that will sustain SUNSHINE’s future

  • Make a direct, measurable impact on tackling loneliness

  • Build skills in fundraising, grant writing, communications, and relationship‑building

  • Gain experience that is valuable across the charity and social impact sectors

  • Work alongside a passionate, supportive team

  • Leave a legacy that will help people feel connected, valued, and seen

The Difference You’ll Make

  • Behind every community activity is someone who funded it.
  • Behind every moment of joy is someone who secured the resources to make it happen.
  • Behind every person who finds connection is someone who believed in the mission enough to support it.

As a Fundraising Team Member, that someone will be you.

Your contribution will help us reach people who feel alone, create spaces of belonging, and build a kinder, more connected London.

Join Us

If you believe in the power of connection, kindness, and community — and you want to help build a charity that brings people together — we would love to hear from you.
