Board of Trustees  (Voluntary)

As a Trustee, you’ll play a key role in guiding Ben’s strategy, championing good governance and supporting our senior team. You’ll help us stay connected to the needs of today’s workforce and ensure our impact keeps growing.

We’re particularly keen to bring fresh perspectives onto our Board, and we actively encourage younger people and early‑career leaders to apply - including those who may not have been a trustee before. JOB PURPOSE:

This Role Turns Data Into Action for Community Impact

At Tell My Truth and Shame the Devil C.I.C., every donor interaction, contribution, and campaign generates valuable insight. The Data and Donor Relations Officer ensures that donor information is accurate, secure, and effectively used to build strong relationships, improve engagement, and guide fundraising strategy. You will be the guardian of donor data and the connector between insight and action, ensuring that each supporter feels valued and informed while maintaining ethical and safeguarding standards.

This is not a generic admin role. It is strategic, detail-focused and high-impact, central to the C.I.C’s long-term sustainability.

Purpose of the Role

This role exists to:

• Maintain and manage donor databases with accuracy and security
• Track donor engagement, contributions, and interactions
• Analyse donor behaviour and generate insights to inform campaigns and communications
• Support the Fundraising Director and Communication Specialists with data-driven strategies
• Ensure compliance with GDPR, safeguarding, and CIC policies
• Provide reporting on donor activity, trends, and retention strategies

You are the link between data, strategy, and donor trust.

About the role:

To manage, analyse and maintain accurate donor and stakeholder data, ensuring secure, ethical handling while providing insights and recommendations to improve engagement, retention, and overall donor experience.

Experience Qualification and Requirements

Essential / Highly Valued Experience

• Experience managing donor databases or CRM systems (e.g., CiviCRM, Salesforce, Donorbox).
• Competence in data entry, tracking, and ensuring data accuracy.
• Experience analysing fundraising or donor engagement data.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, Airtable, or donor management software.
• Knowledge of GDPR, data protection principles, and ethical data handling.
• Experience in non-profit donor relations, fundraising support, or CRM administration.
• Ability to generate clear reports and visualisations for leadership.
• Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.
• Collaborative skills to work with communications, fundraising, and digital teams.
• Ability to identify patterns, trends, and actionable insights from data.
• Problem-solving skills to improve donor systems and processes.

Desirable / Can Be Developed

• Experience supporting segmentation and targeted donor communications.
• Familiarity with donor engagement analytics and reporting dashboards.
• Experience in donor stewardship planning and personalised outreach.
• Understanding of the operational needs of volunteer-led organisations.
• Ability to work with multiple systems and integrate data from different platforms.

Qualifications

• Formal qualifications not required.
• Equivalent professional experience in donor relations, fundraising, or data management is highly valued.

Main Responsibilities/ Key Duties

• Maintain accurate, up-to-date records of all donors, sponsors, and stakeholders across the organisation’s donor management systems or CRM platforms.
• Monitor and track contributions, engagement metrics, and fundraising activities to ensure completeness and accuracy.
• Generate regular reports for leadership, highlighting trends in donor retention, engagement, campaign performance, and income streams.
• Support segmentation and targeting of donors and supporters for personalised outreach and engagement initiatives.
• Collaborate closely with Content and Donor Communication Specialists to personalise messaging based on donor data and behaviour.
• Ensure all personal, financial, and sensitive donor data is handled ethically and securely in line with GDPR, data protection laws, and organisational safeguarding policies
• Analyse donor behaviour, giving patterns, and campaign results to provide actionable recommendations for improving donor experience and engagement.
• Identify opportunities to strengthen relationships with donors and sponsors, including stewardship, recognition, and follow-up communications.
• Maintain and improve data management systems, processes, and documentation to support efficient operations and reporting.
• Liaise with fundraising, membership, and digital teams to ensure consistency and accuracy of donor data across platforms.
• Flag data quality issues or system gaps and recommend solutions to leadership.
• Contribute to planning for scaling donor management systems as the CIC grows.
• Support the development of dashboards, analytics tools, or visualisations to improve understanding and accessibility of donor data.
• Stay up-to-date with best practices in donor management, data protection, and CRM system use within charitable organisations.

Important to be clear:

• This is a volunteer role during the C.I.C’s build phase
• It carries real responsibility for data integrity and donor relations

Formal qualifications are not required, but desirable.
Essential equivalent experience mandatory.

With strong financial foundations and clear ambition for growth, we are now seeking a new Chair and several Trustees to help shape this next chapter.

The Chair will provide strategic leadership to the Board, support and challenge the CEO, and ensure strong governance, financial sustainability and clarity of purpose. They will lead the Board in setting strategy, driving impact, stewarding significant reserves and acting as an ambassador across the sector.

We are looking for:

• Non-executive experience including as committee or board chair
• Strong governance and financial acumen
• Experience of organisational change or growth
• A collaborative, values driven leader who brings sound judgement, strategic insight and excellent relationship building skills.

The Willats Trust is a grant-making, cross-denominational Christian charity with a vision to see our estates and most deprived communities around the UK transformed by the love of Jesus.

Our mission is to fund relational evangelism through local expressions of church, by working with like-hearted partners to share the good news of Jesus in the areas of greatest deprivation across the UK.

Since our establishment in 1858, sharing the Gospel in these communities has always been our priority. Thanks to the generosity of Mr Willats, who gifted a significant property portfolio to the charity at its inception, we have been able to use funds generated from this property portfolio to finance grant-making to support evangelists, church planters, or other activities related to evangelism and making disciples in the top 20% areas of deprivation across the UK.

Following a strategic review in 2025, we have an ambition to more than double the amount we award in grants from £500,000 to £1m a year. Over the next ten years, we want to see more thriving Jesus-centric churches planted in our areas of greatest deprivation and led by people who look like the communities they are serving. This means part of our grant-making supports immediate tactical needs, but part of our grant-making also seeks to influence the underlying factors which will enable the long-term fulfilment of our vision.  

We believe the kingdom of God works best when we all bring what is in our hand and let God do the multiplication. Our posture is to come alongside like-hearted partners who share the same vision and work together in partnership to support and equip those God has called to these communities.

We are seeking to make two Trustee appointments. Individuals who bring expertise in one or more of the following areas:

- Mission-related: someone with lived experience of planting, leading or supporting Jesus-centric churches in communities experiencing significant deprivation. You will probably also carry a sense of calling that is bigger than a single geographic area and will be able help us think strategically about how we use our resources to contribute to increased church planting and evangelism in our areas of greatest deprivation, alongside others, over the next decade and bring deep relationships with others already serving in this space.

- Commercial property: someone with professional property expertise relating to exiting portfolios of residential and non-purpose-built HMO properties, or property development, who can advise on asset optimisation and property exits over the coming years, which will enable us to give more money away.

- Legal, financial or HR: individuals with strategic leadership skills and a passion to see resources deployed for Kingdom-purpose.

The time commitment required of a Trustee is usually likely to equate to approximately 6-8 days per year.

It’s a crucial and exciting time in the history and further development of The Willats Trust. By being a Trustee you will be able to make a difference across the UK and get to have a ringside seat to see what God is doing, as we know his heart is always for the most overlooked and forgotten. We are full of expectancy for what God is going to do in this current season and want to play our small part in this, alongside others.
