Our well-known castle building sits on the banks of the Regent's Canal in the heart of Camden Town. We rent out our community space and offer a range of watersports for children and adults of all ages and abilities. Kayaking and canal boating are core to our work and we tackle disadvantage and support our community by offering subsidised sport and recreation, including through the school holidays. If you ever walk along the canal tow path in Camden you can't help but notice us on the water!
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in financial analysis or accounting, ideally with a professional accountancy qualification. The role involves working with our contracted Bookkeeper and Development Manager to monitor and oversee the charity's finances month-to-month and to report to trustees at Board meetings. It also involves overseeing the preparation of the annual accounts, together with our external accounts inspector (our annual income level is below the audit threshold).
The charity is in a sound financial position. As the Treasurer you will also be involved in and have an important voice in the charity's strategic management and governance. We are a friendly Trustee Board and staff team, looking for a Treasurer with solid financial analysis and an ability to communicate with others from all walks of life. You can expect about 4-5 hours' work per month on average. The Board meets 10 times each year, usually on a Monday evening. Most of our meetings are held remotely though two meetings each year are held in person in our Camden Castle building.
Please note this is a voluntary (unpaid) position. As a Trustee you would be a director of our company limited by guarantee. We maintain directors and officers insurance for our Board members.

Volunteer - Executive Director – SUNSHINE Charity
Be the founding force behind a movement bringing human connection, joy and belonging across London
About SUNSHINE Charity
Loneliness is one of the most painful and invisible challenges facing people across London. It steals confidence, hope, and connection — and it affects people of every age, background and story.
SUNSHINE Charity is a tiny start‑up with a huge heart. We exist to bring joy, human connection, belonging and ‘sunshine’ into people’s lives. We believe that even the smallest act of kindness can change someone’s world.
We are at the very beginning of our journey. No funding yet. No big team. Just passion, purpose, and a vision to build a charity that lights up London — and later, beyond.
If you’ve ever wanted to build something meaningful from scratch, this is your moment.
The Role: Executive Director (Volunteer)
This is not a typical leadership role. This is founding a charity. This is building a movement. This is creating hope where it’s needed most.
As our Volunteer Executive Director, you will:
Shape the charity’s vision, culture and identity from day one.
Build our first programmes to reduce loneliness and increase belonging.
Recruit and inspire volunteers who share our mission.
Forge partnerships across London.
Lead early fundraising efforts — including the possibility of fundraising for your own future paid role.
Bring creativity, courage and heart to every decision.
Help turn a small idea into a city‑wide force for good.
This role is perfect for someone who thrives in start‑up environments, loves building from the ground up, and wants to lead with compassion and purpose.
Who We’re Looking For
We’re seeking someone who is:
Deeply passionate about tackling loneliness.
A natural connector who radiates warmth, positivity and hope.
Excited by the challenge of building a charity with no current funding.
Entrepreneurial, imaginative and resilient.
Comfortable leading, creating and problem‑solving.
Motivated by impact, not titles.
Ready to bring sunshine into people’s lives.
You don’t need previous Executive Director or CEO experience. You just need heart, drive, and the courage to lead something new.
Why This Role Matters
This is your chance to:
Lead a charity from its very first steps.
Create programmes that genuinely transform lives.
Build a legacy of connection, kindness and belonging.
Shape a movement that will grow far beyond London.
Be part of something human, heartfelt and extraordinary.
Ready to Build Something Beautiful?
If your heart is pulling you toward this role — we want to hear from you.
Join us, and help bring sunshine into the lives of people who need it most.
SUNSHINE is a small grassroots charity that works to reduce loneliness & help people feel more connected: through projects, partnerships & community

The Sociological Review Foundation, a registered charity that exists to advance public education on the subject of sociology and related disciplines, is looking to appoint an individual to join the Board of Trustees during an exciting time of organisational growth and development.
Our work is partly supported by Gift Aid donations from The Sociological Review journal. As publishing models change and royalty income declines, the Foundation is working to diversify its income through donations and other sources of support so that it can continue delivering its charitable work.
We have therefore developed a range of income-generating initiatives, including a ticketed annual public lecture, paid podcast production and hosting packages, and specialist training workshops. These initiatives are intended to supplement our Gift Aid income and help ensure that we can continue to offer most of our activities and resources free of charge.
What We’re Looking For
We are inviting expressions of interest from individuals with experience in marketing and communications who can help us reach and engage existing and new audiences across our work. This will include advising on the promotion of our income-generating events, training workshops and other initiatives.
As a very small charity, we are looking for a trustee who understands the practical realities of working with limited staff time and resources. The successful candidate will provide strategic guidance and, where appropriate, practical insight into areas such as market positioning, audience engagement and effective, proportionate communications.
Your responsibilities as a trustee will include the following:
This is not a paid position; however, travel and any childcare expenses while on trustee business will be covered in line with our expenses claim policy.
Previous experience as a charity trustee is desirable but not essential. You will receive training on the duties and responsibilities of trustees at the beginning of your appointment.
To apply, please send your CV and a one-page covering letter to Operations Director Attila Szanto, outlining your interest in the role and what you would bring to it. The deadline for expressions of interest is the 24th of August 2026.
