Refugee Support Volunteer

Location: Folkestone, Kent (Wednesdays 12:00pm to 4:00pm) or Dartford, Kent (Fridays 10:00am to 1:00pm)
Time commitment: One half-day per week

Preferred commitment: We welcome applications from anyone able to volunteer regularly. While there is no minimum commitment, volunteers who stay for six months or longer often have the greatest impact and consistency for the refugees we support and allows volunteers to gain the most from their experience.

Expenses: Travel and lunch expenses reimbursed in line with our volunteer expenses policy.

Help Refugees Build Confidence and Independence

Do you want to make a meaningful difference in your local community?

The Refugee Council is looking for compassionate and enthusiastic volunteers to support refugees who have recently been resettled in Kent. This is a rewarding opportunity to help people rebuild their lives, develop confidence and become more independent as they settle into their new communities.

You do not need previous experience of working with refugees. We are looking for people who are patient, supportive, reliable and committed to helping others thrive. Full training and ongoing support will be provided.

About the Role

As a Refugee Support Volunteer, you will work alongside our Kent Resettlement Team, helping refugees gain the confidence and skills needed to access services independently and participate fully in community life.

You may support people to:

• Learn how to use digital services and online accounts
• Access NHS, Universal Credit and immigration-related online systems
• Build confidence using email, websites and mobile apps
• Understand appointment booking systems and telephone services
• Discover local activities, services and community groups
• Develop social connections and reduce isolation
• Build confidence communicating directly with services and organisations

This is a person-centred role focused on encouraging independence through coaching and guided support rather than doing things for people.

People In Need Today (PINT) | Volunteer, Liverpool

PINT has been supporting people experiencing homelessness since 2006, established in
London, delivering consistent, relationship-led outreach. PINT is launching in Liverpool this
summer and we are seeking volunteers to help on a weekly basis. Whether it is 2 hours per
week or whatever you can manage, we would love to hear from you!

This is a wonderful opportunity to make a real difference in your local community, gain
valuable experience for your CV, get out and about, and meet some truly great people along
the way. Most importantly, you will be part of something special, helping to bring PINT to
Liverpool for the very first time and directly improving the lives of people who need it most.

The Role

This is a hands-on, community-facing voluntary role focused on establishing PINT's presence
in Liverpool through regular outreach, volunteer recruitment, and local partnership building.

Key Responsibilities

• Attending weekly outreach sessions, distributing food, and essential supplies to people
experiencing homelessness
• Building relationships with local businesses, organisations, and charities to develop
partnerships and grow the outreach
• Managing logistics including donation collection, session planning, and volunteer
coordination
• Growing PINT's presence and community awareness across the city

At Chestnut Tree House, making memories for families is at the heart of what we do. We're looking for skilled sewing volunteers with their own sewing machine to help transform treasured clothing into memory bears and keepsakes through our Material Memories service. Using a supplied pattern and guidance from our support workers, you'll create unique items that reflect each family's wishes. Volunteers attend monthly sewing groups to collect materials and discuss projects, then complete the work at home. By sharing your sewing skills, you'll help create lasting keepsakes that bring comfort and connection to families for years to come.

This role is ideal for experienced needle workers who have their own sewing machine and are happy to work on projects at home. We hold monthly sewing groups, where you'll receive materials, chat through briefs, and meet other volunteers (you'll need to bring your machine with you). There may also be opportunities to help repair and restore memory blankets for the children and young people who use Chestnut Tree House.

You will need a car to attend the monthly sewing groups because of the location.

Purpose of the Role:

To support the delivery of engaging and inclusive academic sessions for newly arrived migrant girls aged 11 19 at the Baytree Centre as part of the Arrive and Thrive programme. The role involves assisting teachers in creating a positive and supportive learning environment, helping students with subjects such as ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) and Maths, and providing one-to-one support to those needing extra assistance. By offering guidance, encouragement, and structured support, the volunteer will contribute to the girls’ confidence, academic progress, and integration into formal education.

Main Responsibilities:

- Collaborate with teachers in delivering ESOL and Maths lessons.

- Provide one-to-one support to students, helping them overcome learning challenges and participate actively in lessons.

- Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment where all students feel supported and able to contribute.

- Encourage students’ academic progress while promoting motivation and engagement.

Skills and Qualities Required:

- Strong academic background, ideally with GCSE or degree-level education in Maths and/or English, enabling competent academic support.

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with students from diverse backgrounds and language levels.

- Patience and empathy to support students with varying learning paces and needs. - Enthusiasm for creating a supportive and engaging learning experience.

- Ability to work collaboratively with teachers and other volunteers.

We are supported by an incredible team of prison volunteers who are the link between the charity and the stitchers we work with in prison. Our volunteers run fortnightly stitching groups in the prisons we work with to facilitate our stitchers’ production of high-quality needlework.

Our prison volunteers work in small teams to teach our stitchers’ embroidery and needlepoint, organise their group sessions, and liaise with the prison and FCW office.

What you will do as a prison volunteer:

• Teach people in prison how to stitch and support the completion of our premade kits in our cell groups, which consist of around 10-15 stitchers.
• Communicate with staff at our hub in Battersea to receive kits and supplies for your group and send back completed work for your stitchers to be paid.
• Encourage and help stitchers to complete our Open College Network certifications in creative needlework.
• Develop stitchers’ skills and confidence by encouraging them to take responsibility as peer mentors.
• Act as an ambassador for the charity and sharing our vision and values throughout your volunteering.

Who we are looking for:

Trustees, including a treasurer, are needed for a leading charity helping people with dissociative disorders. 

CDS UK (Clinic for Dissociative Studies) is a specialist service offering assessments and treatment for people with dissociative disorders and an independent charitable provider to the NHS.

CDS provides diagnosis, outpatient treatment, clinical supervision, consultancy and training all over the UK. We also participate in research and education, contributing to what we hope is a greater understanding of dissociative disorders.

Dissociative disorders typically arise in response to extreme and repetitive trauma and/or abuse in early childhood. Dissociation can be a survival mechanism and adaptive response to overwhelming and traumatic experiences, enabling an individual to endure life events that no one person could be expected to manage without a severe impact on their wellbeing. Trustees are central to ensuring that CDS provides the best possible help for extremely vulnerable clients.
