The difference you will make to cats and people

This role concentrates on building relationships with members of the public, encouraging them to consider alternatives to placing their cats up for adoption. You will focus on providing information and support to existing owners who may be experiencing issues with their cat. You’ll also help potential new cat owners who are seeking advice before getting a cat.

You’ll build relationships within the community to engage with cat owners and potential cat owners, for example with vets, other charities, Citizen’s Advice, local authorities etc.

What we need from you

You’ll be:

• Providing information and support to cat owners who may be considering rehoming their cat due to a change in circumstances or cat behaviour issue
• Offer a signposting service, using a comprehensive resource library, information, guidance and support
• Communicating with members of the public to offer support regarding cat ownership by using a variety of mediums eg email, video calls, social media
• Effectively use in-house systems to record outcomes and provide feedback
• Linking with community groups, partners and charities to share key messages about cat ownership
• Linking with other Cats Protection volunteers and employees to share key messages and experiences
• Attending community events (in-person and virtual) to promote key messages

Time expectation

Our supporting cat owners volunteers usually spend four to 10 hours per week in this role, which is flexible and can be shared by more than one volunteer if needed.

What we need from you

This is a really flexible role. We’ll help you choose what you’d like to get involved with, making sure it benefits both you and the team, for example: 

• supporting the team to maintain high standards of cat welfare
• transporting cats to vet appointments or to new homes
• entering records for cats and cat-related activity to track the impact of the team
• supporting with cat admissions and matching cats with prospective owners
• ordering, collecting and delivering cat-related supplies, for example, food, litter, medical supplies
• communicating with the public, offering support with cat ownership or lost and found cats
• supporting the volunteer neutering team

Unfortunately, thousands of cats each year are abandoned or have strayed and rely on charities like Cats Protection for help. Becoming a trap, neuter and return (TNR) volunteer is one way you can make a real difference to cats in your local area. Our TNR volunteers help reduce the number of feral cats by raising awareness of our TNR programmes, setting humane traps to safely capture cats, taking them to local vets to be neutered, and hopefully returning them back to their territory. Local TNR programmes are crucial, as feral and abandoned cats present a huge challenge for communities across the UK.

What we need from you

You’ll be:

• Trapping cats using humane methods
• Taking cats to local vets to be neutered 
• Returning cats to their territory or finding a suitable alternative

The role might also include:

• Regular feeding of feral colonies
• Promoting neutering by building relationships with farmers, land owners and local businesses
• Liaising with vets to promote and arrange neutering 

Time expectation 

This is a flexible role and the hours will vary depending on the number of cats identified for specific TNR campaigns. Our current TNR volunteers spend about 2 to 3 hours per week in this role which can be shared by more than one volunteer if needed.

About The Role

 At WWT we believe the best way for people to understand and connect to wetlands is to experience them, so we bring awe-inspiring nature up close and let it do the talking. People feel part of something amazing and are motivated to make a difference.

By providing an excellent visitor experience as a member of the visitor services team, you will be encouraging our visitors to make the most of their visit to Washington Wetland Centre, and to understand and support our work to save wetlands for wildlife and people.

RSPCA Surrey East Branch

We are looking for fosterers in the Surrey East area, including Redhill, Reigate, Dorking, Horley, Lingfield, Oxted and Caterham.

We’re looking for cat-loving volunteers to play a vital role in helping us improve the wellbeing of the cats in our care whilst they wait to be rehomed. Can you help them by providing a calm and caring home whilst we find their purrfect forever home?

Overview of the opportunity

As a cat fosterer, you would be supporting the RSPCA in providing our cats with the safety of your home whilst tending to their welfare needs such as feeding and grooming. In addition to this, by providing a temporary loving environment, you will play a crucial role in a cat’s wellbeing and socialisation, which will significantly improve their chances of successful rehoming.

Once everything is in place, the branch will guide you through the fostering process and ensure that you have all the necessary equipment, food, and veterinary care for your fostered cat.

Our Animal Welfare Officer, Robyn, is the fostering coordinator, so she will provide our fosterers will all the help and support they need. We are a small, remote branch, so fostering will be the backbone of our rehoming operation. Volunteers will play an integral part to our branch. We don't operate at a large capacity, so we will always be on hand to support fosterers and navigate the fostering process with them. They will be joining the branch at a very exciting time, as we have only just launched our cat fostering scheme.

Whilst our cats are in your foster care, you will:

• Provide them with care, suitable housing, and a safe environment as per our policies and guidelines.

• Feed, water, and groom them in line with our advice.

• Transport them to any veterinary appointments (if required)

• Provide them with your time and patience.

• Help us spread the word about the cats in your care so they might find their forever home quicker.

• Playing and cuddles are also a must!

What we are looking for in a volunteer Cat Fosterer

• Volunteers aged 18 or over who have had plenty of experience caring for cats.

• Fostering experience is beneficial but not essential as training is provided.

• For their wellbeing, our cats need to be kept in a separate room, so the whole family should be on board.

• Any existing pets or animals need to have been spayed/neutered (some medical reasons may mean they cannot be so, please let us know if this is the case).

Our transport volunteers provide vital assistance to our teams and volunteer groups in the local area by transporting equipment, litter, food – and even cats! Our enquiries volunteers are part of a passionate team of volunteers that help Cats Protection signpost and manage these enquiries. They help our cats by answering questions from members of the public, providing advice and signposting queries to other volunteers and employees if needed.

Kent Wildlife Trust is one of the largest of the 46 Wildlife Trusts, which together make up The Wildlife Trusts federation. KWT is an independent charity supported by three wholly owned income-generating subsidiary companies which together make up the Kent Wildlife Trust Group. An exciting opportunity has arisen for a voluntary Non-Executive Director to join the board of our subsidiary company Kent Wildlife Enterprises.

Established in 1996 Kent Wildlife Enterprises (KWE) receives and manages our core ‘non primary purpose’ trading income. This includes income generated through retail, our extensive events programme, and our Visitor Centre activities. KWE also receives the funds generated from our reserves through Nature-based Solutions (NbS) activities, including the sales of Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) and carbon units.

In 2026 KWE anticipates realising the benefits of an enhanced visitor experience at our Sevenoaks Visitor Centre following its refurbishment over the last year, as well as a refreshed online retail offering following the launch of our new KWT website. 

At a time when the nature and climate crises is becoming all too real, it is critical for the Trust to maximise income opportunities to support its work. KWE donates all its year-end profits to the parent charity to this aim. If you have the skills and time this role offers an opportunity to use your business and governance expertise to deliver real benefits for UK wildlife and biodiversity. 

As a Non-Executive Director, you will join the board to provide independent oversight, strategic guidance and values-based leadership to the company, helping to ensure strong financial health, business growth and effective risk management.  You will work with fellow directors and the Trust’s senior leadership team to promote the success of the company, ensure compliance with legal, ethical and regulatory obligations and uphold the highest standards of environmental practice.

We are particularly interested in applicants with experience in areas such as:

•            SME business growth

•            Visitor centres, destination venues, events and experiences

•            Environmental or heritage retail enterprises including e-commerce

•            Eco-tourism

•            Company finance, tax and accounting

•            Experience working with or within charities, social enterprises or trading subsidiaries

Prior experience in a senior leadership role is highly desirable.

The role is unpaid and voluntary, requiring attendance at a minimum of four board meetings per year, primarily online with occasional in-person meetings.

Oxford Friends of the Earth is looking for a new Coordinator. We are a voluntary group with 1800+ supporters and focus on climate action, nature and climate solutions, clean rivers, air pollution, and transport.  We run events, lobby MPs and councillors, produce reports and we have strong partnerships across Oxfordshire and with national bodies. We have existed since the 1970s and meet as a group monthly in central Oxford.We are part of the Friends of the Earth global network, working to protect and improve our environment locally and nationally.

Our current Coordinator is taking a break: we’d like to find someone who can commit to offering a few hours most weeks and attending our monthly meetings.

This involves:

· Setting up meetings and managing our monthly mailing

· Working with our Campaigns Officer to develop our campaigns

· Working with our social media officer to develop our engagement

· Working with other volunteers on specific campaigns / projects

· Exploring opportunities for us to gain support

· Maintaining our supporter database and being a point of contact for people interested to know more about the group

· Managing and developing our website

· Supporting event planning and management
