About Us

We are a small grassroots charity based in Southwark and the only surviving tenants’ federation in London. For decades, we have supported tenants and residents to defend their housing rights, challenge poor conditions, and have a collective voice in decisions that affect their homes and communities.

Our social housing advice service supports people facing homelessness, disrepair, evictions, and housing management issues, with a strong focus on empowerment and tenant-led action.

The Role

We are seeking a Volunteer Grant Officer to help us secure funding to sustain and grow our vital work. This role is crucial to keeping an independent, tenant-led voice alive in London.

You will work closely with a small, committed team and help ensure our advice service remains accessible to local residents.

Key Responsibilities

• Research grant funding opportunities suitable for a grassroots, tenant-led organisation
• Draft and submit grant applications to trusts, foundations, and statutory funders
• Maintain a simple funding pipeline and track deadlines
• Work with staff and volunteers to gather service data, outcomes, and case studies
• Assist with basic funder monitoring and reporting

About You

Essential:

• Strong written communication skills
• Good organisational skills and reliability
• Commitment to social justice and housing rights

Desirable (but not essential):

• Experience of grant writing or fundraising
• Knowledge of social housing, tenant organisations, or advice services

We particularly welcome applications from people with lived experience of social housing.

The Stroke Association - Fundraising Project Volunteer

Our Regional Fundraising Team work closely with individuals, groups, and organisations who are raising money for us or have the potential to raise funds. This can be through our campaigns, active challenges, partnerships or through their own ideas. Fundraising is important to our charity as our specialist support, research and campaigning are only possible with the generosity of supporters. In this role you will help with projects that will help us find new fundraising supporters, help with promoting our campaigns or be involved with ensuring our supporters have a fantastic experience

What the role involves:

As a fundraising project volunteer, there are a wide range of activities that you might be involved with. When you enquire about volunteering, we will find out about your interests and skills to find the right projects for you to support us with. Tasks may vary throughout the year. They include:

• Researching organisations and community groups that may be able to support the charity financially.
• Promoting our fundraising campaigns in communities to encourage them to get involved.
• Helping ensure our supporters have a great experience by thanking them, wishing them good luck or sharing charity updates. This could be through cards, emails or phone calls.
• General administrative tasks on word or excel.
• Support with our events in person if they are near to you. This could involve meeting fundraisers, cheering along our runners or talking about the charity.

Who the role might suit:

• To be an effective fundraising project volunteer you will need a methodical approach to work and be able to follow agreed systems and processes.
• Our fundraising project volunteers need to be thorough with a good eye for detail, and able to use office equipment and relevant computer software.
• Some of the tasks involved will need you to be someone who can communicate effectively in writing, over the phone and in person.
• You will have ongoing support from our staff but will spend much of your time working on your own so you will need to be someone who is comfortable working without direct supervision.

• Being a fundraising project volunteer means you will gain practical experience of working in a busy team, supporting our ongoing work and on a variety of projects that make a real difference to people’s lives. 
• The role provides an opportunity to learn new keyboard and IT skills and use various software and database packages.
• Fundraising project volunteers also find it helps them develop new skills with a well-respected charity which can improve their CV and employability.
• You would be able to see how your support has made an impact by seeing the amount of money raised or hearing feedback from our supporters.

Training for this role:

We provide all of our volunteers with training, so they feel confident in the role and give the best possible support to stroke survivors.

Essential training for the role will include some modules on our learn system, such as GDPR, safeguarding and information security. Other training may be required depending on the tasks you complete. We will confirm this as part of your induction.

We also offer a range of optional training courses to support you in your role and to support your knowledge of the Stroke Association.

We also offer ongoing support and expenses where appropriate.

Where and when you would volunteer:

The role is a remote volunteering role that you will complete from home at a time that suits you. There may be times when we invite you along to virtual meetings, but times would be discussed.

A Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, an Access NI check or membership of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme is not required for this role.

Our Pedal Away rides are pitched at a level so that anyone can join in no matter how long it's been since you were last on a two-wheeled bike. They are social rides aimed to turn people from beginner to independent and confident cyclist, away from traffic and are led by experienced ride leaders.

About this role

You may be doing lots of interesting support service actions:

• Answering calls from our shops, helping to resolve concerns
• Answering contacts from our customers, learning how to deliver great customer service
• Working on our retail operations online support system, dealing with suppliers and shops online and by phone
• Creating marketing assets to send to shops
• Joining teams working on specific projects like training packs, cost evaluation or shop merchandising
• Creating social media posts for our shop colleagues to share
• Learning how to use word, powerpoint and excel.

Every day is different, we manage lots of different projects whilst working on our annual plan. We can find a project to suit everyone.

Volunteering in the office could enable you to gain the skills needed to support searches for employment.

You must be over 18 for this role.

When and where

This role can be remote so can be worked from anywhere in UK or you can come into the Here East office one or two days per week.

Depending on your availability we are suggesting 4 hours per week during office hours, but would welcome any suggested volunteering patterns.

Hertfordshire’s Family Centre Service brings children’s centres, health visiting and school nursing together, to provide a more joined-up service for children, young people, and their families.

The centres deliver a range of support groups and activities for children and their families to help them be healthy, grow and develop. To make it easy for families to fit sessions and services around their busy lives, access is available from any Hertfordshire Family centre. We have locations across the entire county so please do enquire ensuring you have provided your postcode. 

Main Tasks/ Responsibilities/ Activities

To support Public Health Nursing teams by helping parents use baby weighing equipment in a welcoming and safe environment.

Key Responsibilities:

· Welcome parents, carers, and babies to the self-weigh session in a friendly and approachable way.

· Explain how to use the weighing equipment safely and accurately (training provided).

· Support parents to record their baby’s weight on growth charts or apps as appropriate.

· Ensure the weighing area is safe, clean, and ready for families to use.

· Provide reassurance and encouragement to parents and carers.

· Signpost any questions or concerns about a baby’s health or development to a Family Centre staff member

Skills / Abilities / Experience / Qualities

· Friendly, patient, and approachable.

· Good communication and listening skills.

· Confident in supporting parents to use simple equipment (training given).

· Reliable, punctual, and able to work as part of a team.

· Respectful and non-judgemental towards all families.

Training / Support

· A full induction to the service and specific site will be provided.

· Requirement to undertake One YMCA online training courses

· To understand and implement One YMCA’s policies.

· Ongoing support and regular 1:1 meetings

· Access to organisational events throughout the year including Socials, Conferences and Training opportunities.

What's involved?

Supporting, encouraging, and facilitating the creation of new outdoor experiences such as cycling, walking and running. 

Testing out new tours, walks and cycle groups in the outdoors.

Learning a bit of story telling along the way, and being part of choosing what is shared and trained for future group leaders. 

Preparation of equipment and ensuring experiences are carried out safely. 

Being a friendly face for visitors, welcoming them to the estate, answering questions, inspiring people to connect with the outdoors and growing support for the National Trust. 

Being part of a varied and enthusiastic team, working closely with the Visitor Experience team and volunteers to ensure that service across all visitor facing components is consistent. 

Assist staff with route planning and visitor information, with the possibility of offsite promotion and engagement with local groups. 

Taking part in the possible connection with local walking or cycling groups.

Taking part in regular Walk Leader & Cycle Leader training to develop skills. Regular catch-up sessions with our Active Outdoors Development Volunteer Manager. 

Incident management will be covered in detail during the Walk Leader and Cycle Leader training including what Walk & Cycle Leaders’ responsibilities are. 

Being part in evaluation and planning meetings to decide what on Active out door role could look like in future.

This role will suit you if you are:

Passionate about the outdoors and enjoy inspiring others to get involved with nature and the outdoors through activity and experiences. 

Able to take part in, lead or support in routes around Ickworth; as the role will involve varying levels of physical activity including shorter close by and Multi Use trail routes, full parkland bike rides and rambling walks through off path spaces. 

Able to work as a team, connecting people and evaluating work along the way. 

Having a friendly and welcoming style of talking to visitors, to welcome people of all abilities and best connect them with the offer that best suits them. 

Keen to develop and support the National Trust's focus on developing inclusive offers to reach more diverse audiences 

Adaptable in your approach to suit different situations and audiences 

Able to respond and support behavioural changes and product initiatives related to sustainability and reducing our carbon footprint 

Enthusiastic about your local environment and are an ambassador for the National Trust's cause to look after special places for everyone, for ever.
