Aid Box Community (ABC)

We are looking to appoint someone with leadership qualities and high motivation, initially 
to join us as a trustee in June and then to take on the position of Chair in November. In 
close co-operation with our dedicated team of trustees and inspirational director, you will 
be guiding our charity through the next phase of our journey. This is a very exciting 
opportunity to play an important role in the development of Aid Box’s strategy over the 
next 5 years and to oversee the deepening of our charity’s impact on our community, 
made possible by our recent move into our new home. 

About Aid Box Community

We are a charity based in Bristol and for nearly nine years have been providing vital support, supplies and sanctuary to men women and children seeking asylum in this city. You are welcome to come and have a look at the work we do by visiting, by prior arrangement, our Welcome Hub and Free Shop. 

What are our trustees responsible for?

We are all jointly responsible for:

• The overall management of our charity.
• Setting and monitoring Aid Box’s strategic direction and ensuring it is financially sound.
• Ensuring the charity carries out the purposes set out in our constitution for the benefit of our community and in line with the Charity Commission’s guidance.

Main duties and responsibilities as a Chair:

• leading our charity’s strategic direction in close collaboration with the board and our director.
• Chairing quarterly trustee meetings as well as our HR sub committee meetings.
• Representing trustees in contacts with other charities and organisations.

This role is for you if:

• You have leadership experience (formal or informal), either within or outside the charity sector.
• You have specialist skills that may benefit Aid Box Community. Motivated by ABC’s vision, mission and values, in particular upholding the basic human rights of refugees and asylum seekers.
• Teamwork and communication skills with ability to listen and build a consensus.
• Living in or near Bristol . You would like to join a fantastic community of staff, volunteers and service user

We will provide practical support, principally through our deputy chair, along with a full induction programme including the legal framework and other key areas such as safeguarding. During your time with Aid Box, you will be able to join training workshops relevant to your role as a trustee, along with the opportunity to be involved in a range of charity activities.

Trustee vacancies. Our trustees play a vital role in making sure that the charity achieves its core objects as set out in the governing documents.  They oversee the overall management, finances and administration of Dove Cottage and ensure that the charity is successfully implementing a clear strategy in line with our vision. Trustees are also there to support and constructively challenge the senior staff team (the Dove Cottage Manager and Income Generation and Marketing Manager).

The trustees of Dove Cottage have a responsibility to:

· Support and provide advice on Dove Cottage’s purpose, vision, goals and activities.

· Approve operational strategies and policies, and monitor and evaluate their implementation.

· Oversee Dove Cottage’s financial plans and budgets and monitor and evaluate progress.

· Provide leadership to the board and to ensure that trustees fulfil their duties and responsibilities for the proper governance of the charity.

· Support and, where appropriate, provide constructive challenge to the executive manager.

· Ensure that the board as a whole works well and in partnership with key staff.

· Ensure the effective administration of the charity.

· Ensure that key risks are being identified, monitored and controlled.

· Review and approve Dove Cottage’s financial statements.

· Provide support and challenge to senior staff, specifically the Dove Cottage Manager and the Income Generation and Marketing Manager in the exercise of their delegated authority and responsibilities.

· Keep abreast of changes in Dove Cottage’s operating environment.

· Contribute to regular reviews of Dove Cottage’s governance arrangements.

· Attend board meetings, well prepared to contribute to discussions.

· Exercise independent judgement, acting legally and in good faith to protect Dove Cottage’s interest, to the exclusion of your own/third-party interests.

· Ensure appropriate accountability to LOROS as sole member.

· Contribute to the promotion of Dove Cottage’s objects, aims and reputation through the application of your skills, expertise, knowledge and contacts.

Working hours/commitment

All trustees are required to:

· Attend at least four board meetings each year, although trustees may together decide to change the frequency of meetings.

· Attend the charity’s Annual General Meeting and any extraordinary general meetings should these be required.

Meetings will usually be held in person at the hospice in Stathern. There will be times when trustees need to be actively involved beyond board meetings.  This may involve visiting the hospice, tea room and shops, helping out at events, scrutinising papers, leading discussions, providing advice and guidance on new initiatives, responding to complaints and concerns, and getting involved in various matters about which they have a special expertise. 

Role Summary:

The Marketing Lead will lead Australia's marketing strategy, driving brand growth and
customer engagement. This role is responsible for overseeing all aspects of marketing,
including brand development, digital marketing, campaign management, market research,
and customer experience. As a key member of the team, the Marketing Lead will work
closely with cross-functional teams to position Roots as a leader in the Islamic Education
industry while ensuring all marketing efforts align with our mission and objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

• Strategic Marketing Leadership:
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive marketing strategy to achieve organisational goals, including brand awareness, lead generation, and customer retention.
  • Monitor market trends and competitor activities to identify opportunities and risks.
• Brand Management & Positioning:
  • Strengthen the organisation’s brand identity and ensure consistent messaging across all channels.
  • Lead efforts to position the brand as an industry leader, driving differentiation and competitive advantage
• Campaign Planning & Execution:
  • Oversee the creation and execution of marketing campaigns across digital, print, and traditional channels
  • Measure campaign effectiveness, optimising performance and ROI.
• Team Development:
  • Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing marketing team.
  • Foster a collaborative, creative, and results-driven environment.
• Content Development:
  • Develop a media strategy that includes high-quality photography and videography to enhance brand storytelling.
  • Oversee the production of visual content for social media, advertisements, websites, and events.
  • Ensure all media content aligns with brand identity and marketing goals.

Preferred Experience:

• Marketing & Branding
  • Some experience in digital marketing, social media, or event promotion.
  • Basic knowledge of social media management, and content creation.
• Involvement with MSAs or ISOCs
  • Experience with Muslim Student Associations (MSAs) as a member, volunteer, or organizer.
  • Comfortable engaging with Muslim communities and student networks.

Skills and Qualifications:

• Marketing Skills: Proven expertise in brand strategy, digital marketing, and campaign management.
• Innovative: Demonstrated ability to drive growth through innovative and data-driven marketing strategies
• Community-Oriented: A deep understanding of the Muslim community in Australia, especially in relation to university students and local mosques.
• Relationship Building: Proven experience in building and maintaining meaningful relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders.
• Project Management: Strong organisational skills with the ability to support program delivery efficiently.
• Communication: Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences, from students to community leaders.
• Commitment to Ihsaan: This role requires someone who strives to deliver their responsibilities with ihsaan.
• Dedication to Service: A heart for khidma (service), and a desire to make a positive impact on the lives of young Muslims through education.
