An introduction to Coach Core.
Coach Core Foundation is an education and employment charity that uses sport and apprenticeships to unlock meaningful opportunities and drive social mobility for marginalised young people -16-24yo - facing barriers to employment. Coach Core was originally created by The Royal Foundation in 2012 for two underpinning reasons:
1. Social Response: To form a meaningful, positive response to the 2011 London Riots and the subsequent 'More Than a Game' paper released by the Centre for Social Justice, which highlighted those young people from disadvantaged backgrounds consistently faced limited life prospects.
2. Olympic Legacy: To create a sustainable, long-term legacy project following the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, using sport to affect positive social change in local communities across London and beyond.
At a time where youth unemployment is at the one million mark, we provide those that need it most with an inclusive, highly supported apprenticeship model alongside leading employers across the sports and physical activity sector. We focus our support where it is needed most and where we can achieve maximum impact. This means targeting communities facing severe social deprivation, youth unemployment, and lack of opportunity. As a result, underrepresented young people with limited prospects are empowered to reach their true potential—achieving recognised qualifications, gaining vital life and workplace skills, and progressing into meaningful long-term careers.
Our key impact at a glance
Our ambitions for the future... and how you can help
Coach Core is at a transformational stage of growth. Over the past year, charity income has grown by almost 25%—bucking sector trends in a highly challenging economic climate. This success has driven expansion across all key metrics and opened doors to exciting new opportunities to support more young people than ever before.
Having grown rapidly from a small, dedicated programme into a thriving national charity, we are currently delivering ahead of schedule on our three-year Project 1500 strategy. Consequently, the board decided in March 2026 to bring forward our next strategic cycle to launch Spring 2027-2030.
At this crucial juncture, we are seeking three exceptional trustees to provide strategic leadership, support our expansion, and propel our mission forward in three critical areas:
1) A charity Treasurer
2) A fundraising-income Trustee
3) A HR-people focussed Trustee.
The brief for each role can be found at on our website - 'About Us' and 'Careers'.
The Coach Core Foundation is committed to equality, diversity, and inclusion across all levels of the organisation. We believe that diverse board membership brings vital perspectives that reflect the young people and communities we serve. Our recent outgoing trustees formed a strong part of this commitment and as such, we want to address the underrepresentation this may leave by actively welcoming applications from individuals of all backgrounds, ethnicities, abilities, and genders. We particularly welcome applications from those with lived experience of the social challenges or communities that Coach Core supports and as such, we will view this strongly alongside the skills and experiences outlined in the person specification. A copy of our Board of Trustees Recruitment Policy is available on request.
Key considerations for all three roles:
Remuneration: Unremunerated voluntary role. Standard out-of-pocket travel and secondary expenses incurred on charity business are fully reimbursed in line with CCF policies.
Term of Office: Three-year term of office. Trustees may be nominated for a second three-year term subject to board approval. A maximum of 3x three-year terms is permitted.
Time Commitment: Four quarterly board meetings are currently structured into a one-hour update call online and a two hour in person deep dive meeting with trustees two weeks later (3hrs total per quarter). Any formal requests for time beyond this are agreed in advance but it is understood that ad hoc strategic advice and presence on any sub-board are expected in this role, estimated at approximately 12 hours annually in addition to the four board meetings as above.
Location: Primary office HQ located in London (C/o Collinson, 3 More London Place, London SE1 2AQ). Board meetings offer hybrid/remote flexibility. As above, it is preferred that trustees attend board meetings in person (central London), but that remote attendance can be arranged when required. However this means all trustees must be UK based regardless.
Eligibility: Candidates must be legally eligible to serve as a charity Trustee and company director under UK law.
