Job description

Could you help an older person regain confidence, reconnect with their community, and enjoy life a little more?

At Age UK Buckinghamshire, we know that growing older can sometimes bring challenges such as loneliness, bereavement, health changes, or a loss of confidence. A little support at the right time can make a huge difference.

Through our Age Better Bucks service, we help older people find the support, services and activities that can improve their wellbeing and help them stay independent. Our volunteers are an important part of that journey, offering encouragement, friendship and practical support when it's needed most.

What Will I Be Doing?

As an Age Better Bucks Volunteer, you'll support older people who have already worked with one of our Community Support Connectors to identify their goals and the support available to them.

You might:

  • Make a friendly phone call to check how someone is getting on
  • Encourage someone to attend a local group or activity for the first time
  • Accompany a person to an appointment or community event
  • Help build confidence and reduce feelings of isolation
  • Offer reassurance and encouragement as they take positive steps forward

Sometimes, simply knowing that someone is there to listen and support them can make all the difference.

We're Looking For People Who Are:

  • Friendly, approachable and compassionate
  • Good listeners who enjoy talking with people
  • Patient, reliable and encouraging
  • Comfortable working independently with support from our team
  • Passionate about helping older people live well and stay connected

The Support You'll Receive

You don't need any previous experience to get started. We'll provide:

  • Full training before you begin
  • Ongoing support and guidance from our friendly team
  • Regular opportunities to learn and develop new skills
  • Reimbursement of approved expenses

Flexible Volunteering

We know life is busy, so volunteering with us is designed to fit around you.

  • Typically 1-2 hours per week
  • Flexible opportunities to suit your availability
  • A mix of phone-based and face-to-face support
  • Volunteer as much or as little as you can comfortably commit to

Why Volunteer?

✔ Help older people feel more connected and supported

✔ Make a genuine difference in someone's life

✔ Build meaningful relationships within your community

✔ Gain new skills and experiences

✔ Join a welcoming and supportive volunteer team

✔ Experience the satisfaction of helping someone achieve goals that matter to them

Ready to Help?

If you'd like to be part of something rewarding and help older people live with greater confidence, connection and independence, we'd love to hear from you.
