Why Does Roots Academy Exist?

Crisis of Faith: 1 in 4 young Muslims are leaving the religion due to various factors, primarily the pervasive anti-religious content and temptations they encounter online and offline. 

Roots Academy exists to bridge this gap by providing a structured and transformative Islamic education that speaks directly to the needs and challenges of young Muslims today, delivered in an engaging and accessible form that removes barriers to access and provokes thought and action.
 

Role Summary 

The Site Manager role involves overseeing a number of university Islamic Societies or Muslim Student Associations who are interested in partnering with Roots Academy to host the Essentials Onsite Program an in-person transformative educational class tailored to university students on campus. The Site Manager role is responsible for establishing and maintaining positive relationships with these ISoc/MSA committees and offering 1:1 support to ensure that they have an excellent educational experience.
 

Key tasks

• Actively establish and maintain positive relationships with ISoc/MSA committees and Student Ambassadors (ISoc/MSA representative) to ensure an exceptional onsite experience for students, and promote retention of sites.
   
• Be the point of contact for ISocs/MSAs: answer questions, offer light-touch support and coaching on ways to improve the class, engage on a 1:1 basis listening to their needs and concerns, and addressing these accordingly.
   
• Liaise with Student Ambassadors to ensure that logistics involved in marketing and running the class are taken care of by the ISoc/MSA.
   
• Collect ideas and best-practices from how different campuses deliver their class
   
• Be the internal point of contact for any queries or updates related to ISocs/MSAs assigned.

About the role:

You will be providing face-to-face or remote support through delivering HUK’s therapeutic 1-2-1 support program for people impacted by hoarding behaviour who may be facing a variety of situations including legal, financial, psychological and discriminatory abuse/neglect. You will be working with trained colleagues to alleviate housing, benefits, mental health and other problems experienced by HUK's participants.

The role consists of:

· Volunteering at HUK a minimum of one and a half-hours each week in accordance with program completion, preferably two years.

· Maintain a caseload of at least one participant.

· Taking responsibility for ongoing casework as required.

· Complying with HUK's case-management procedures, training program and other relevant policies and procedures.

We are looking for:

· Trainee Counsellors/Psychotherapists currently studying on a BACP, UKCP or BABCP accredited course.

· Trainee Counselling/Clinical/Forensic psychologist currently studying on BPS accredited doctoral courses.

· Qualified Counsellors/Psychotherapists that are accredited or working towards accreditation with the BACP, UKCP or BABCP

· Student or individual membership with the BACP, UKCP, BABCP and or HCPC

· Qualified Clinical/Counselling/Forensic Psychologists with HCPC registration.

· A commitment to volunteering with us for one year.

· A commitment to values and ethos of HUK.

Citizens Advice Winchester District is a dynamic, values-led, and award-winning local charity which is passionate about creating a fairer society for all.

We do this by helping people to resolve a wide range of problems they’re facing, so that everyone can achieve a good quality of life.Every year, we provide free, confidential and impartial advice on issues such as debt, housing, benefits and employment advice to people across the Winchester district, many of whom are in desperate or challenging situations and have nowhere else to turn. We may also suggest to our clients' other agencies that may be helpful to them, depending on their individual circumstances.

Our greatest asset is our dedicated team of staff, volunteers and trustees, who also advocate for lasting policy change both locally and nationally. To help us in our work, we are seeking an additional 3-4 trustees to complete our board and help us lead the charity over our next phase of strategic development.

The role  

We want our board to have a diverse range of experiences and backgrounds and are looking for strategic thinkers with a commitment to good governance and a willingness to work collaboratively and challenge constructively. Previous experience of Citizens Advice, or of being a Trustee (or equivalent), would be advantageous, but the commitment and enthusiasm to help us shape the work and strategic direction of our forward-thinking charity is essential. 

We would be particularly interested to hear from people with experience in HR (especially those with current CIPD membership), Charitable Trust and Foundation fundraising, and change management.

With offices in Grantham, Spalding and Stamford, plus outreach centres across the region, we support a population of 225,000 people. Hackney Migrant Centre (HMC) is seeking to recruit a Chair to support our work and  ensure financial and organisational stability as we implement our newly developed Strategic Plan for 2025-2028. Our current Chair is stepping down at the end of her three-year term. We have recently appointed a new Vice-Chair, an experienced Treasurer in post for over a year, and our CEO has now been in post for over 18 months, providing continuity and stability in leadership. This is an opportunity for someone with previous Board experience to coordinate and lead the Board of Trustees and make an important contribution to the work of this well-respected local charity at a crucial time in its development.

HMC was established in 2007 to provide advice and support to migrants to help them overcome problems with their immigration status and in accessing services. We welcome all migrants, regardless of immigration status or nationality. With the help of a team of professional advisors and volunteers, we delivery immigration, housing and welfare advice and provide a range of holistic advocacy and support services in a community setting. We work to support visitors to address urgent problems they are facing, and address long term challenges relating to insecure immigration status, homelessness and destitution.

As the external environment for migrants has become increasingly challenging and funding pressures have intensified, we have had to review and adapt the scope of our work. Over the past two years, the staff team has reduced to a team of five, with most roles being part-time. We now have an annual budget of just over £300,000 and are in the process of reviewing what we can realistically achieve, as well as how we can become more resilient and financially sustainable.

We welcome applications from people from a range of backgrounds and experience who would be happy to take up this exciting challenge. We are particularly keen to recruit trustees with lived or learned experience of migration to the UK.

The Role

This is an exceptional opportunity to play a key role in shaping the future of Changeworks. The Chair will lead the Board of Trustees in providing strategic direction and ensuring effective governance, guiding the organisation through an important period of growth while championing its environmental and social values.

The Chair will serve as a statutory trustee and non-executive director, offering strategic leadership, guidance, and robust governance oversight across Changeworks and its subsidiary organisations, driving meaningful impact in communities, households, and businesses throughout Scotland.

Required Experience and Capabilities

Senior Leadership and Governance Experience
The ideal candidate will have leadership experience demonstrating strategic thinking, an entrepreneurial mindset, and an understanding of governance complexities in charitable and commercial sectors. This may include:

• Senior management, executive, or non-executive roles in mission-driven organisations.

• Experience serving on boards or committees across sectors.

• A track record of leading teams through organisational transformation and growth.

• Experience engaging diverse stakeholder groups, including social housing, local government, or minority communities.

• Proven experience in trustee or non-executive roles, with strong governance and oversight capabilities.

The Chair is expected to have:

• A proven track record of chairing boards or high-level committees, ideally in a purpose-driven or hybrid commercial-social environment.

• Experience as a charity trustee or non-executive director.

• The ability to navigate complex political and economic landscapes to advocate for decarbonisation and a just transition.

• A commitment to decarbonising homes in Scotland and addressing fuel poverty.

• Experience overseeing organisational growth or transformation aligned with Changeworks’ scaling objectives.

• Exceptional diplomatic, mediation, and relationship-building skills to manage board dynamics and the CEO partnership.

Strategic Growth & Risk Management

• Experience driving or enabling organisational growth and development.

Specialist Knowledge Areas

Kiplin Hall and Gardens in North Yorkshire is recruiting Trustees to join the friendly and dedicated Board which oversees the management of this intriguing Jacobean house.  The house was built in the 1620s for George Calvert, Secretary of State to James I and founder of the US state of Maryland. A member of the Historic Houses Association, the Hall and Gardens welcome 40,000 visitors a year. In 2025 we opened a new Welcome Centre at Kiplin with improved retail and catering for our visitors and with the support of MEND funding undertook major repairs of the Hall roof. The National Lottery Heritage Fund enabled us to create new galleries and improve our visitor access and services. There is a dedicated staff of 10 FTE supported by a team of 240 volunteers.

We are particularly seeking Trustees with skills and experience in finance, accountancy, estates, fundraising and marketing to help oversee the continued development of the Hall and Gardens. Over the next 10 years we plan on further enhancing the service and experience offered to visitors, as well as reviewing our working practices internally to ensure Kiplin is sustainable and resilient for the future.  We are looking to grow our Board of Trustees to help guide us through an exciting period of change and transition.

Support Session Volunteer

You’ll be supporting people over the age of 18 with disabilities, this may include those with poor mental health, learning difficulties, autism and other disabilities.  Your role will include supporting clients to understand and undertake a task on a one-to-one basis.  The task will vary from client to client as will the needs of the individual. 

As a support session volunteer, you might: 

• help people have their say when it matters most
• Helping individuals navigate challenges and ensuring their needs are met
• help people to make complaints and use local services 

All volunteering will take place Monday to Friday between 09:00 and 17:00.  You will need to be over 18 years old and be living in the UK. Please note that there is no opportunity to volunteer at weekends or in the evening.

The possible tasks included below are not exhaustive or rigidly defined; an exact role profile is dependent on the skill set of individual applicants. An average day might see you talking to students in a camp to tell them about a new class, or supporting the writing of a grant proposal. Tasks could loosely fall within 4 key areas:

Programmes

• Supporting programme coordinators in maintaining the day to day running of their activities with the Youth or Adult Education Programmes

• Supporting our children’s teachers or workshop facilitators in the planning or delivery of classes or excursions outside of camps

• Communicating key messages about our programmes to our students in camps

Admin, Finance & Logistics

• Supporting our management team in liaising with external partners

• Maintaining organisation-wide financial processes

• Coordinating the arrival and housing of incoming team members

Grants & Partnerships

• Supporting in the identification of relevant grants

• Supporting in grant writing activities

 Communications & Fundraising

• Contributing to the written/visual content of Second Tree’s social media output

We are looking for someone who shares our vision of shaping a recognised, valued and inclusive sport and physical activity sector that everyone can be a part of, and who is committed to the highest levels of governance, risk management and assurance.

The Audit and Probity Committee reports directly to CIMSPA’s Board of Trustees and is a crucial part of our governance structure, overseeing our risk landscape.  By ensuring that risk is adequately managed and that the organisation is governed with integrity, the committee guides CIMSPA’s strategic decision-making processes.  Alongside this, the committee provides oversight, challenge and scrutiny across a range of areas, including our internal controls and our financial performance and management. 

Specialisms

Based on the committee’ annual skills review, we have identified the following specialisms as a priority for recruitment:

• Government and policy-making

• Legal and regulatory

Therefore we are seeking to appoint a committee member with significant experience in at least one of these areas.

Core Skills

We also expect all committee members to have significant experience in one or more of the following:

• Our system interventions (as detailed in our strategy)

Please note - an in-depth knowledge of the sport and physical activity sector is not essential.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Ensuring that the committee fulfils its purpose as stated in its Terms of Reference.
• Ensuring that the committee complies with CIMSPA’s Charter and Statutes, charity law, company law and all other relevant legislation/regulations as they relate to the committee.
• Managing CIMSPA’s resources responsibly and honestly, with a duty of prudence.
• Working in partnership with CIMSPA’s CEO or senior leadership team to ensure the strategic aims of the organisation are achieved as they relate to the committee, maintaining a management and oversight role.
• Ensuring that the committee is accountable.

The ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) Service

Our ESOL provision is part of the Centre’s Employment and Learning Service, which also includes digital inclusion and employment support.

We have qualified volunteer ESOL teachers providing 1:1 support to clients who want to improve their English.  We also have a couple of volunteers running small conversation classes at the Centre, within our Family Services.

We are expanding our ESOL offer to include learning opportunities offsite in a group setting to adults and young people in temporary accommodation, mainly asylum-seeking families.

What will you be doing?

• Conversational English with a small group
• Find out from your students what areas they want to cover and what skills they want to develop
• Encourage a positive atmosphere where students feel they can make mistakes
• The aim of the groups is to help our clients to become more independent and to pursue their social and professional goals. 
• Be aware of the variety of levels within the class, providing support for weaker students and challenge for stronger ones
• Give students encouragement and constructive feedback
• To liaise with the manager of Family Services and communicate any issues that arise with the class 

How does this role make a difference?

This support provided by volunteers to our clients really helps them progress with their English. Often clients do not have opportunities to learn English or interact with an English speaking person, so this opportunity is invaluable to them. Improving our clients English also enables individuals to access our other services such as welfare rights and Immigration advice services, digital inclusion, which will in turn, improve their employment prospects and assist in integration in their local community.

Who will you be helping?

Our clients are refugees, migrants and asylum seekers who are unable to afford or access English classes at colleges. We have many clients at the Centre who need support with their English.

What are we looking for?

• Experience in teaching English as a second language to adults in a group setting and to mixed abilities and a range of languages.
• A recognised ESOL/EFL teaching qualification such as CELTA.
• Good communication and organisational skills.
• An awareness of some of the issues that affect refugees, asylum seekers and migrants.
• A commitment to upholding the Centre’s values of valuing each person, welcoming, encouraging potential, working together, reflecting and improving.

Time Commitment:

The class will run in term times, on Wednesdays from 25th February 2026, from 10.30am – 12/12.30pm. We ask for a commitment to run this 90 – 120-minute class for at least two terms ideally.

• You will be supported by the Manager of Family Services and the wider team
• You will receive a Centre induction.
• You will have access to e-learning modules on a range of topics.

• Ensuring the financial stability of the charity and proper investment of the charity’s funds

• Attend our annual Away Day and represent the charity at external events
• Act as an ambassador for Suffolk Mind
• Attend and participate in training as and when required.

We are seeking passionate and committed individuals to join our Board of Trustees. As a trustee, you’ll play a vital role in helping shape the strategic direction of the charity, ensuring good governance and supporting our leadership team to deliver high-quality, impactful services.

Trustee Duties

• Support and provide advice on Safer Places’ purpose, vision, goals and activities
• Approve operational strategies and policies and monitor and evaluate their implementation
• Oversee Safer Places’ financial plans and budgets and monitor and evaluate progress
• Ensure the effective and efficient administration of the organisation
• Ensure that key risks are being identified, monitored and controlled effectively Review and approve Safer Places’ financial statements
• Keep abreast of changes in the operating environment
• Contribute to regular reviews of Safer Places’ own governance.
• Attend Board meetings, adequately prepared to contribute to discussions
• Use independent judgment, acting legally and in good faith to promote and protect Safer Places’ interests, to the exclusion of personal and/or any third-party interests
• Contribute to the broader promotion of Safer Places’ objects, aims and reputation by applying your skills, expertise, knowledge and contacts

We have an exciting opportunity for a new Treasurer to join our board.

As Treasurer, you will work alongside our Finance Manager, the finance sub-committee and our trustee board to oversee the financial strategy and risk management processes of our organisation, to ensure its financial viability and legal compliance. To apply, you must have some financial qualifications (or relevant experience) and have some knowledge or experience of charity finances, fundraising, financial consequences and pension schemes.

Working with the Finance Manager, finance sub-committee (including the CEO) and trustee board, the Treasurer will oversee the financial strategy and risk management processes of the organisation, to ensure its financial viability and legal compliance.
