Rainbow Migration, the longest-running UK charity dedicated to supporting LGBTQI+ people through the asylum and immigration system, is seeking a trustee who is or has been a refugee due to persecution as an LGBTQI+ person. This is part of an ongoing commitment to increase leadership in the organisation by people with lived experience of the issues we work on.
We are looking for someone who is passionate about our vision that LGBTQI+ people can settle in the UK and lead fulfilling lives, and our mission to support LGBTQI+ people through the asylum and immigration system and influence policy and practice.
At Rainbow Migration, we don’t just accept difference – we celebrate it, we support it, and we thrive on it. We particularly encourage applications from people who have sought asylum on the basis of their sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression or sex characteristics.

The role of trustees
Trustees are volunteers who bring their skills and experience to shape our strategic direction. They have legal responsibility for the charity, ensure good governance, and make sure our finances and resources are used well to implement our mission. Trustees also play a role as ambassadors for the organisation and our work.
Trustees do not get involved in operational decision-making. For example, decisions on which social media platforms we use or what group activities we run for service users are taken by staff.
Because trustees are volunteers, they do not receive payment for their time. Rainbow Migration can pay your costs when incurred solely for fulfilling trustee duties (e.g. travel, phone top-ups if needed exclusively for trustee work).

Time commitment
We are looking for people who can commit to being a trustee for at least three years. Trustees can then be re-elected for another three years. The maximum term limit for our trustees is nine years (in line with Charity Commission guidance).
Trustees meet on a weekday evening, from 6 to 9 pm, five times per year. There may be additional meetings in 2026 as part of our work on anti-oppression and to develop our next organisational strategy.
Meetings are usually held on Zoom except in December when we meet in-person in London, with an informal dinner first. For in-person meetings, travel costs (and meals and accommodation if relevant) can be covered.
You will need to spend two to four hours reading 8 to 30 papers before each meeting. Papers are provided a few days in advance of meetings. The “Board Buddy” (see below under Support for Trustees) can help with understanding them. You can also ask to meet with the Executive Director or Chair to explain them.
You can see examples of topics of discussion at board meetings in appendix 2 of the application pack.
You will also need to give some time between meetings. This includes, for example:
- Spending 10 to 30 minutes reviewing and correcting the minutes (written record) of the last board meeting
- Spending 30 to 60 minutes reviewing and giving feedback on documents, such as a new or updated draft organisational policy (e.g. data protection, safeguarding, health and safety)
- Reading and responding to emails within one or two days.
The board has two subcommittees: one on HR and one on finance. You may be asked to join one of these a few months after you become a trustee. If you do, there will be up to four more meetings a year and there will be papers to read for each of these meetings.
Support for trustees
We provide numerous resources for trustees. Below are some examples but they are not exhaustive and we are open to suggestions. Support can be accessed throughout the time someone is a trustee.
Training:
- We can pay for trustees to access training on good governance, the duties of a trustee, and charity finance.
- We give access to webinars and online training e.g. on safeguarding and cyber-security.
- We provide internal training (by staff) on areas such as safeguarding and data protection.
One-to-one support:
- New trustees have induction meetings with Rainbow Migration staff.
- An existing trustee can act as a “Board Buddy” for new trustees, which includes formal and informal meetings and support around board meetings and papers.
- We can help you to find a mentor e.g. The Experts by Experience Employment Initiative can provide mentoring for people with lived experience of migration.
- We can discuss accommodations that are needed for disabled people and other ways to ensure trustees feel fully included and able to participate

We are also reviewing what we do and how we do it through an anti-oppression and anti-racism lens, as well as investing in being more informed and led by LGBTQI+ people who have sought asylum. We want our organisation — including our trustee board — to be increasingly shaped and led by LGBTQI+ people who have sought asylum. That is why this trustee position is specifically for someone who has been granted refugee status in the UK as an LGBTQI+ person.

Person specification
Essential
For this role, we are looking for someone who has been awarded refugee status in the UK on the basis of their sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or sex characteristics. At this time, we are not accepting applications from people who still in the process of applying for asylum, or who have leave to remain in the UK on other grounds (e.g. work, human rights, marriage) as these experiences are already represented on our board.
We welcome applications from people who have used our services as well as those who have never interacted with us before.
In addition to having been granted asylum in the UK as an LGBTQI+ person, the following are necessary:
- Commitment to Rainbow Migration’s mission, vision and values
- Ability to work constructively with other trustees and staff
- Good English (so you can understand spoken conversations in meetings and contribute)
- Ability to read and understand long documents (e.g. trustees must be familiar with our policies, such as our safeguarding policy, and the key points in our publications such as Still Falling Short)
- Courage and enthusiasm to learn, encourage, challenge, influence and support other people and the organisation
- Confidence to ask questions (this helps everyone learn and improve) or request training or support
- Ability to analyse and scrutinise information provided by staff and trustees (the Board Buddy and other trustees can assist you in this)
- Ability to use independent judgement and share your thoughts with trustees and the Executive Director
- Willingness to share your opinion and give guidance to the board in areas where you have knowledge or experience
- Commitment to speak well about the organisation to others (e.g. funders, other charities)
- Regular access to a secure, private email account and a quiet, private space for joining online meetings and telephone calls
- Be living in the UK (England, Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland)
- Aged 16 or over
- Not be previously disqualified as a trustee or company director, have an undischarged bankruptcy or have unspent criminal convictions for an offence involving dishonesty or deception (such as fraud).
Desirable
It would be beneficial if you have work or volunteer experience in an area relevant to Rainbow Migration’s work (e.g. service delivery, communications, campaigning, lobbying, fundraising, HR, IT) but this is not a requirement.

Are you a HR professional? Could you give an hour a week to tackle pregnancy and maternity discrimination? Then we need you!
We’re not going to sugar-coat it, things aren’t great for working parents and pregnant women. It can feel frustrating and a bit depressing at times, but by being part of the Pregnant Then Screwed volunteer team, you get to turn that frustration into something positive. In the last year the fantastic volunteers on our Advice Line have spoken to over 5000 women and parents, collectively providing around 40 hours of free support and advice every week. Hundreds of women and parents call our Advice Line every day, but with a small team of volunteers we are only able to answer a fraction of those calls—this is where you come in.
We are looking for brilliant HR professionals who want to help Pregnant Then Screwed tackle the Motherhood Penalty by becoming a Volunteer HR Advisor.
Our Volunteer Advisors give around 1-2 hours a week of their time to the Advice Line. They use their HR knowledge to offer a kind, empathetic support and advice to help people to identify and challenge pregnancy and maternity discrimination in the workplace.
About the role
Role Title: Volunteer HR Advisor
Location: Home-based (UK)
Reporting To: Head of Support Services
Time Commitment
The Advice Line is open Monday-Friday, 9am-3pm, with various available shifts during those times. We ask volunteers to give 1-2 hours per week on the Advice Line for a minimum of three months.
Alternative time commitments can be considered and discussed as part of your application, so please do include any information that might be useful in your application form.
Main Role Purpose
The Advice Line HR Advisors play a vital role in providing support and guidance to working parents facing unfair treatment or discrimination in the workplace via our advice line. Volunteers will offer advice, listen empathetically, and provide information about employee rights and available resources. This role is critical in empowering parents to make informed decisions and navigate workplace challenges effectively.
Essential requirements
- Minimum CIPD level 5 Diploma in People Management with one professional reference.
- Knowledge of employment laws, regulations, and policies related to pregnancy, maternity leave, and discrimination.
- Access to a mobile phone/laptop/tablet to receive calls. You will not be charged for calls and your number will not be shared.
- Access to a reliable and secure WIFI connection. Public WIFI is not suitable for this role.
- Excellent active and empathetic listening skills.
- Good written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to convey information clearly and concisely.
- A kind and welcoming telephone manner.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
- Comfortable using online communication tools.
Key Responsibilities
- Answer incoming phone calls to the PTS Advice Line from individuals seeking support and advice.
- Listen actively, empathise, and provide HR advice and guidance to support callers with their enquiries.
- Signpost to further information and other support organisations if necessary.
- Make referrals to our legal partner if required.
- Record all details of the call on our CRM system.
- Maintain professionalism in all interactions, adhering to all Pregnant Then Screwed guidelines and policies.

We are currently seeking qualified, women solicitor, barrister and qualified legal executive volunteers to provide legal advice on our Sexual Harassment at Work (Employment Law) advice line. All volunteering is done remotely and you must be qualified to practice in England and Wales.
What will you be doing?
Our free telephone advice line provides vital legal advice for women experiencing sexual harassment at work, supported by legal advisors with experience in employment, discrimination and harassment law. We offer a safe space for women to talk about their situation and receive expert legal advice to enable them to make important decisions about their future.
We ask all our volunteers to:
- Provide advice on our advice lines for one 2-hour session a month (minimum);
- Attend the induction training session provided by Rights of Women;
- Give clear and accurate legal advice to callers;
- Be non-judgemental and non-discriminatory in their approach;
- Follow our procedures for making records of calls and obtaining monitoring information;
- Keep up to date with the law for the relevant advice lines;
- Attend all agreed advice line sessions (remotely);

What will you be doing?
As our Technical VR Advisor you'll act as a senior technical voice for the team, providing strategic technical guidance and sharing your experience rather than day-to-day management. Working alongside our Lead Developer and a motivated team of four software developers, you will have the opportunity to:
This role has two sides, and you might lean more towards one than the other:
Product and strategy guidance:
- Advise on hardware decisions, particularly our upcoming transition to standalone VR headsets
- Share knowledge of the VR landscape: tools, platforms, what's working in the industry to help us make smart choices with limited resources
- Help us think about user experience design for an educational audience aged 14–18
Technical and development guidance:
- Advise on software architecture, tooling, and development practices for our Unity/C# VR application
- Mentor volunteer developers, helping them think through technical problems and grow their skills
- Guide the team on performance optimisation and best practices
- Help flag technical risks or opportunities as our product evolves
Note: Strength in either area is valuable (both together is ideal). This is a flexible advisory role and you can shape your involvement around where your experience has the most impact.
What are we looking for?
- Solid knowledge of the VR/XR space
- Familiarity with the VR hardware landscape, particularly standalone headsets (e.g. Meta Quest)
- We'd ideally love someone with professional or substantial hands-on experience in VR, but if you've built that depth through research, teaching, or personal projects, we'd still love to hear from you
- Experience with Unity and/or C# is a bonus but not essential - product and strategic experience in VR is equally valuable
- An interest in mentoring or teaching
- Someone who can commit roughly 1–3 hours per week, with the flexibility to scale up occasionally
- Passion for education, equity in STEM, or making technology accessible to young people
Nice to have: experience with educational software, interactive design, or working with non-profit / volunteer teams.

The role of a Treasurer is an unpaid, voting role sitting on the UK Board of Trustees and reporting to the Chair of Trustees. In line with our policy, all trustees initially start in a non-voting advisor role to ensure that both they and the board are happy to formalise the trusteeship before transitioning to a full voting trustee position.

Treasurer Role
· Oversee the financial affairs and ensure they are legal, constitutional and within accepted accounting practice
· Review the appointment of new auditors and work to ensure financial reports are clear and timely
· Hold monthly budget review meetings with the UK Operations Manager to oversee accounting and financial controls
· Ensure appropriate risk management is in place and is reviewed by the board on a regular basis
· Introduce new financial forecasting and reporting systems and ensure protocols and processes are appropriate
· Be main point of contact with the investment fund managers and oversee investment policy
Governance Role
- Contribute to the strategic planning process
- Be an ambassador for Sreepur Village representing the organisation and linking it to its stakeholders.
- Attend at least three meetings a year (virtual or in person) or as advised by the Chair of Trustees if the number of meetings changes.
- Attend or host fundraising events, where possible.

Our fundraising event helpers have the exciting and varied role of helping at local fundraising events - such as cakes sales, barn dances, quiz nights – and everything in between!
You can expect us to

What we need from you
You'll be
- help set up and/or man stalls at events
- help on collection days like supermarket collections events or street collections
- help at fundraising events such as quiz nights, cake sales and dances
- promoting a professional image of Cats Protection at events
A bit more information about this role and the team
This volunteer opportunity is perfect for anyone who enjoys being part of local community events and wants to make a meaningful difference for cats across the South West. As a fundraising events helper, you will support a range of enjoyable activities such as craft fairs, coffee mornings, quiz nights, county shows and supermarket collections. Your support at these events helps raise the vital funds needed to care for cats and kittens in need.
Every event you take part in truly makes a difference. Even small amounts go a long way. Just £5 can feed a cat in our care for 25 days, helping us provide the food, warmth and comfort they rely on.
You do not need previous experience. All you need is a friendly attitude, a willingness to get involved and an interest in helping cats. Whether you prefer setting up stalls, chatting to members of the public or supporting activities throughout the day, there is a place for you on the team. Any time you can give will help us continue our work and support cats who need it most.
This role is very flexible. You can choose to volunteer at a single event for a couple of hours or join multiple events throughout the year. We will keep you updated with upcoming opportunities so you can choose what suits you best.
Wherever you are based in the South West, you will have full support from your fellow volunteers and the Fundraising Hub team. They are always available to offer guidance, resources and encouragement.
We will support you every step of the way.
Time expectation
This role is really flexible! You could choose to volunteer at one event for a couple of hours or attend multiple fundraising events.
We’ll keep you up to date with upcoming local events where volunteers are needed. You’ll then be able to choose which events you’d like to volunteer at and how many hours you’d like to give. However much time you can give, your contribution will help raise much needed funds to continue the work of Cats Protection.

What we need from you
This is a highly flexible role, and you can choose how you’d like to get involved. Opportunities include:
- Face-to-face fundraising – organising or helping at fundraising events, running supermarket collections and fundraising stands, and monitoring collection tins
- Online fundraising – setting up online appeals and writing engaging cat case studies to maximise donations
- Marketing and promotion – spreading the word about fundraising activities via social media and local press
- Administration – processing donations, sorting and recording donated goods, and completing Gift Aid paperwork
- Championing our work – helping to develop new fundraising ideas and increasing community engagement
- Photography – capturing images of cats in care, cats we’re helping, fundraising events, and all things Cats Protection
Time commitment
This role is flexible and designed to fit around your other commitments. You’ll be part of a friendly team raising vital funds — and having fun along the way.

As a charity we are able to help thousands of cats each year thanks to the generous donations we receive from members of the public. Our fundraising team leaders have the exciting and varied role of inspiring our fundraising volunteers to plan and deliver local fundraising events. Using their passion and imagination, they oversee a small team of fundraising volunteers who come together to raise the vital funds needed to cover costs such as veterinary bills and food. Our fundraising team leaders support their team of volunteers in all aspects of their roles, making sure our volunteers are happy, confident and supported.

What we need from you
You'll be:
- supporting and encouraging a team of fundraising volunteers
- planning fundraising events and activities with your team
- allocating tasks before and during fundraising events
- keeping financial records from fundraising events
- encouraging and promoting a professional image of Cats Protection
- following policies and guidelines and ensuring licences and permits are obtained for events
Time expectation
Our fundraising team leaders usually spend three to four hours per week in this role, which is flexible and can be shared by more than one volunteer if needed.
