We are looking to recruit a co-opted member to our Finance, Audit & Risk Committee who:

·Is passionate about the work of St Christopher’s

·Is an experienced, qualified accountant

·Has a knowledge and experience of risk and audit committees (as an auditor, executive or committee member)

About the role:

As part of the Finance, Audit & Risk Committee, the co-opted member will help to achieve St Christopher’s strategic ambitions, working with the Executive Team, Trustees and Directors. The co-opted member will provide guidance and expertise to further the charity’s strategic goals, act as an ambassador for St Christopher’s values and help to make a difference to the people we support and care for.

Responsibilities of co-opted members

Co-opted members are expected to:

● Demonstrate an ability to analyse complex information, to question, probe and seek clarification in order to come to an independent and unbiased view

● Have a genuine interest in, the work of the St Christopher’s and end of life care

● Act as an advocate for St Christopher’s to enhance its reputation

● Promote and demonstrate high standards of ethical behaviour and corporate governance.

● Bring relevant expertise and experience

● Spend adequate time preparing for, attending and actively participate in meetings, contribute to debates providing constructive challenge when appropriate and complete actions as agreed

● Maintain strict confidentiality regarding sensitive information and the business of the Committee 

● Exercise independent judgment, particularly avoiding any personal conflict of interest and ensuring that all relevant business, professional, and other interests are declared

● Understand and respect the relative roles of the Board and the Executive

● Act at all times within the best interests of the charity and comply the Trustee, Co-Opted Sub Committee member & Non Executive Director Code of Conduct expectations

Time commitment

Co-opted members will be expected to:

· Prepare for and attend a minimum of four Finance, Audit & Risk committee meetings each year (usually online)

· Undertake St Christopher’s induction and mandatory training requirements

· Participate in an annual review meeting with the Chair of the Finance, Audit & Risk Committee

· You may be called upon to attend additional meetings to deal with any urgent matters

Period of Appointment

· The appointment is for two years from the date of appointment with an annual review by the chair of the Finance, Audit & Risk committee. Reappointment renewable by mutual consent.

About the Role:

CARAS is looking for volunteer Football Assistants to support our Football sessions on Mondays, 5.30-7pm in Balham.

Football coaching sessions are led by Fulham FC Kicks programme weekly, supported by CARAS volunteers to offer welcome to young people.

Volunteer tasks and responsibilities

· Welcoming young people to the session;

Survivors of Bereavement by Suicide (SoBS) is the leading charity providing peer-to-peer support for adults who have been bereaved or impacted by suicide. We believe that no one should face their loss alone, so we create safe spaces across the UK for people to share and process their grief.

We are seeking compassionate volunteers looking to start up a new peer support group in Aberystwyth.

Who are we looking for?

• Over the age of 18.
• Bereaved by suicide over 18 months ago and confident in your own progress. The impacts of a death by suicide are far-reaching - this could have been a family member, friend, colleague, client, or even a stranger.
• Passionate about supporting others in your community.
• Friendly, trustworthy, and approachable, with good active listening skills.
• Respectful, sensitive, and non-judgmental approach to survivors.
• Comfortable in supporting conversations and managing group dynamics.
• Good communication skills – both spoken & written English.
• A commitment to support the group, your team, and the surrounding community.

How do groups work?
Each group is facilitated by a team of three volunteers who have all been bereaved by suicide themselves. Their role is facilitating meetings, group administration, fundraising and communication for the group as a team. All volunteers are provided with full training before they begin the role and receive support from head office throughout their volunteering journey.

SoBS groups usually meet once a month for around 2 hours, and provide people with an opportunity to listen, share, ask questions, and connect with others in a safe and non-judgemental space.

There is no set structure to a meeting – people are free to talk and listen as much or as little as they want. Topics discussed vary from month to month but often include people sharing their story, how they are feeling, what has happened since their last group visit, questions about coroners and discussions about common challenges such as flashbacks, supporting children or facing neighbours. Established groups may occasionally organise guest speakers, go on walks, or arrange craft workshops.

What will you do?

• Facilitate group sessions – meeting survivors, starting off conversations, allowing space for people to talk (if they want to), and looking out for others.
• Administration & communication – managing enquiries from survivors, providing information and signposting where needed, submitting information to the national office.
• Provide signposting to head office, as well as other local charities and services.

⚖️ About the Role

We are seeking a Volunteer Solicitor with experience in family law, safeguarding, or domestic abuse-related legal matters to provide initial legal guidance, signposting, and referrals to vulnerable individuals supported by Guardian Light Foundation.

This role is advisory and supportive, not high-volume casework. Your expertise will help people understand their rights, options, and next steps at critical moments in their lives.

�� What You’ll Be Doing

• Providing initial legal advice and guidance (not ongoing representation)

• Supporting safeguarding decisions where legal insight is required

• Advising on urgent legal options in high-risk situations

• Signposting individuals to appropriate external legal services

• Working closely with GLF’s safeguarding and support teams

• Maintaining clear professional boundaries and ethical practice

• An Enhanced Volunteer DBS Check is required

• DBS checks are conducted via our trusted partner Serve (Rushden)

Essential:

• Qualified UK Solicitor (or equivalent legal professional)

• Experience in family law, domestic abuse, or child safeguarding

• Strong understanding of trauma-informed practice

• Ability to explain legal concepts clearly and compassionately

• Commitment to ethical and client-centred practice

Desirable:

• Experience working with charities or vulnerable populations

• Knowledge of housing or homelessness law

• Familiarity with referral pathways and support services

About Derwentside College

Derwentside College is not your traditional FE college.

Located in a semi-rural location, high on the edge of the Pennines, the College is based on a single site in the heart of the town of Consett. We offer a diverse range of provision to young people and adults from across the local, predominantly rural, community. We currently deliver education and training to around 4,000 learners across over 200 courses, supported by around 170 staff.

Whilst we deliver a broad range of 16-18 classroom-based provision, including construction, engineering, hairdressing, beauty therapy, catering, health and social care and digital technology, along with maths and English, the majority of our students, 55%, gain their education through apprenticeships. About the role

Our board is led by our Chair, David Allsop, who has worked tirelessly with our Principal & CEO, Chris Todd, and other colleagues across our leadership team and board to refocus our direction and culture and to grow our aspirations as a college.

Part of this process has seen David and Chris work together to build a renewed sense of collegiality across our board. We have appointed several new and experienced members, successful experts in their respective fields who are already offering a new level of challenge, scrutiny and support. This is resulting in driving a more inclusive culture of successful governance.

Given the depth of our ambitions and considering our future strategic priorities, we are now seeking to recruit a further governor to our board.

Who we are looking for

To achieve our organisational aims, our board must continue to consist of experts and experienced professionals who can provide the appropriate levels of challenge and questioning to enable us to grow, develop and improve.

Following recent successful governor recruitment and further consideration of the expertise we need across our board, we have identified that it would be helpful to us to deepen the education expertise within our membership.

We will welcome applications from candidates with:

• Expertise in the areas of FE quality improvement and assurance
• Experience as a senior leader of FE curriculum and more broadly, FE institutions
• Experience and knowledge of inspection and compliance requirements relating to the FE sector
• Extensive experience as a strategic leader within the post-16 sector
• Experience of the development of study programme for young people and/or adult learning
