As a Volunteer in Dorset your role will include:

What we ask of you?
In order to join us as a Community Engagement Volunteer, you must:
· Be 18 years of age or over.
· Be able to volunteer for at least 3 hours per month, for at least 3 months.
· Complete a 3-day workbook.
· Undertake a DBS check where required
· Be able to provide two satisfactory references.
· Have an active email address that you are comfortable using in order to engage with VS communications.

The Online Fundraising and Campaign Manager ensures that all digital campaigns—from social media drives to crowdfunding initiatives—are strategically designed, executed, and optimised for impact. You will lead online engagement, campaign planning, and donor acquisition strategies, connecting supporters to the CIC’s mission and converting attention into meaningful action. - Design and deliver online fundraising campaigns: Plan, implement, and manage end-to-end digital fundraising initiatives across social media, crowdfunding platforms, email marketing, and web-based channels. Ensure campaigns are aligned with organisational goals, audiences, and key fundraising moments.

Our Mission

Each volunteer is vital to making The Twilight Walk, a walking event that raises funds and awareness for brain tumours, such a special and successful day. No matter the role you play, you’ll make a big difference to us and all our walkers.
How can you help?
As a Route Marshal you will work as a team alongside section leaders (staff), to ensure participants are safe and looked after throughout the walk. You’ll get to cheer on, support and motivate our walkers throughout The Twilight Walk 5km and 10km route, and help create an exciting, energetic and enjoyable walking experience. You will not be alone for this role, all volunteers will be with at least 1 other volunteer at different aid stations along the route.
Responsibilities:
- To ensure all walkers keep to the pavements and walkways and don’t overspill on to the roads.
- To direct walkers to go in single file where appropriate and to ensure that all pedestrians have an equal opportunity to use pavements and walkways.
- To ensure that all walkers remain on the designated walk route, unless otherwise instructed to by yourself, your section leader or a member of the emergency services.
- To ensure that no walker walks alone. There will be designated front, back and middle walkers to make sure we do not lose anyone.
- To ensure that all walkers are respectful of the local community and try to keep noise to a reasonable level, especially through the residential areas of the route.
- If you are near to an item that could cause injury – i.e. a bollard, advise all walkers as they pass.
- Walkers will let you know if they need a first aider, if they have lost a child or if they would like to drop out of the walk. You will be given full details on how to deal with situations like this in your briefing on the day of the event.
- To ensure that children are properly supervised by their parent or guardian when crossing any roads. It is not your responsibility to cross the walkers or stop traffic – you are only there as assistance if needed
What impact will you have?
The Twilight Walk London is our biggest fundraising event of the year, where 1,300 supporters come together to raise vital funds for The Brain Tumour Charity. However and wherever you get involved, you’ll be part of our dedicated community, uniting around the same goal – beating brain tumours for good.

As part of our volunteer team you will be enthusiastic, friendly and approachable at all times, ensuring our walkers safety comes first.

Time commitment
The Twilight Walk London is taking place on Saturday 21st March 2026 at Lindley Hall. Route marshals will need to arrive at 10:30am and will be able to leave from 18:00pm (these times are estimates and subject to change).
We appreciate not everyone can commit to volunteering for the whole day. If you can commit to a few hours and would like to volunteer, please select the shift that suits you. If you need to leave early, let us know so we can ensure there is someone available to check you in and out. We ask that you arrive at the shift start time to receive your on-the-day briefing. Any time you can volunteer is greatly appreciated.
Practical considerations
You will receive training for the role, as well as ongoing direction from one of the team, who will be your key contact. Volunteers must be over 18. We encourage volunteers to claim for any reasonable expenses that are incurred in the course of their volunteering with The Charity.

The Head of Events is a crucial element of delivering our flagship event. This is an exciting opportunity to take on a new challenge, build and support a team which delivers a vital part of our charity’s strategic work and explore new ways to expand and improve Bi Pride UK's events.

Bi Pride UK’s mission is to create spaces where people who experience attraction beyond gender can be freely visible and celebrate themselves and their identities. It’s not enough to be ‘welcome’ at Pride. We make up a very large proportion of the queer community – the 2021 Census actually shows we’re half of the community – and we deserve to be visible and celebrated in our own right.

A performance stage, a panel stage, stall village, street food, and over 1,300 attendees. After going virtual with the BiFi Festival for 2020 due to Covid-19 and running a virtual Pride event in 2021, we came back in person in 2022 with a hybrid event, and have been running the event in this format ever since

The role:
The Events team at Bi Pride UK is one of the core operational teams within the charity. The team handles programming, production and execution of our events, including our annual flagship Bi Pride event, which holds the record for the largest Bi Pride event in the world. This role will sit at the head of our Events team, supervising managers across the team and taking responsibility for the operational direction of our events. Bi Pride UK’s flagship Bi Pride event is a highlight of the year, and it’s the product of our amazing volunteers’ efforts throughout the year.
The Head of Events is a crucial element of delivering our flagship event, so this is an exciting opportunity to take on a new challenge of building and supporting a team which delivers a vital part of our charity’s strategic work. The Head of Events will supervise four events managers who each oversee a different area of the event, and will lead the whole Events team in their team meetings and decisions regarding the production of our events. They will also work closely with key teams across the charity, including Media & Comms, Inclusion & Access, and Education & Outreach, to place our bi+ communities at the heart of our events and reach the widest audience possible. Our events place great focus on accessibility and inclusion, so the Head of Events will work consciously with the venue, accessibility consultants and technical live-streaming specialists to ensure our hybrid events meet the needs of our audience. They will have freedom to explore new ways to expand and improve our flagship event, and other events that Bi Pride UK could run through the year.
Key tasks of this role include:

Reporting to the Events Trustee, as well as working closely with volunteers across the team and charity, to deliver events that meet the charity’s vision;

Setting achievable strategic targets and workflows for the team as part of our three year strategy, and supporting volunteers to meet these targets;

Overseeing the team’s finances, including setting budgets, tracking sub-team spending, and supporting the Fundraising team with information for grant applications;

Supervising a team of year-round volunteers (dedicated to the planning of Bi Pride UK events) and supporting “on-the-day” event volunteers who contribute to the smooth delivery of our events;

Working with the Access & Inclusion team and the Accessibility Consultant to implement their recommendations and ensure the event meets high standards of accessibility;

Building and maintaining strong relationships with suppliers for various elements of our events;

Fostering robust collaboration with key teams and volunteers throughout the organisation to ensure the success and smooth running of our events;

Working with the Volunteer Management team to recruit appropriate numbers of volunteers for the year-round Events team and volunteers to support event delivery;

Contributing to due diligence reports and taking oversight of contributor contract completion for all areas of the event;

Overseeing and supporting all key areas of event delivery, from stages and stalls areas, to volunteers and accessibility.
Our team volunteers remotely from anywhere in the UK, with some travel required occasionally (primarily for our flagship Pride event in London in August). All reasonable expenses incurred are reimbursed, including travel, lunch at away days and other all day events, and some childcare costs if required. The successful candidate will lead monthly Events team meetings on Wednesday evenings via conference call (which will become fortnightly on the approach to an event), in addition to further programming, 1:1 volunteer check-ins, contributors, suppliers and venue meetings as required. Our Trustees and Heads meetings take place via conference call on the third Monday evening of every month.

Position Title: Treasurer Trustee

Time Commitment: Bi-monthly evening Board Meetings in Beeston, Nottingham. Monthly review of financial reports, ongoing auditing through spot checks. Bi-monthly finance sub committee meetings, can be online or in person in day or evening to suit the right candidate.
Hope Nottingham began as a small drop-in café, with a dozen volunteers in 2010. It has now grown to encompass 2 community hubs, a network of foodbanks, with eleven staff and 350+ volunteers. We support communities across Nottingham, seeking to offer holistic and life changing support to thousands of people. We hold the East & West Nottingham Trussell franchise and partner with many churches and organisations such as Citizens Advice.
If you are looking to make a real difference in your community, this could be the opportunity for you! Now in our 15th year, Hope Nottingham seeks a new Treasurer. With the other Trustees, you will be responsible for our overall governance, strategic direction, and our financial health and activities. Whether you are an experienced Trustee, or wanting to take your first step at Board level, we are particularly keen to recruit members of the local community with financial skills. We have a strong Senior Leadership team, are in a good position financially and have recently invested in an external independent financial review, with the need for a Treasurer being the main recommendation. Overview of role
The Treasurer is a key member of the Board of Trustees. In addition to their general trustee duties, they are responsible for overseeing the financial governance and health of the charity. This includes ensuring (via auditing and review) that the charity's finances are well-managed, transparent, and in compliance with legal and regulatory requirements. The Treasurer works closely with the Chief Executive Officer, and other members of the Board to ensure sound financial planning, risk management, and reporting. The Treasurer also leads the Finance Committee and reports to the trustees on all financial aspects of Hope.
Key Responsibilities (with specific tasks highlighted in italics)
1. Financial Oversight and Governance
- Ensure the charity has appropriate financial policies and procedures in place to safeguard its financial resources.Review the financial controls policy and manual at least annually
- Keep the Board informed of its financial duties and responsibilities
- Provide leadership in setting and maintaining high standards of financial governance and accountability.
- Ensure the charity operates within its budget and is managing resources efficiently, while safeguarding its long-term financial sustainability. Review of monthly financial reports with the CEO before the Finance Committee meeting.
- Act as a bank signatory and oversee banking procedures Authorise payments as required, review bank reconciliations and approve mandate changes
2. Budgeting and Financial Planning
- Oversee and approve the annual budgeting process, ensuring that financial planning supports the charity’s strategic goals. Review and input into annual draft budget with CEO and finance committee members
- Provide advice and guidance to the Board on financial matters, helping trustees to understand financial reports and implications of financial decisions. Input into finance sub-committee meeting and report back to Board
- Review and approve the budget and financial forecasts, ensuring they align with the charity’s priorities and objectives and financial position. Review performance against budget through the year via monthly financial reports
3. Financial Reporting
- Oversee the preparation of regular financial reports ensuring they are accurate, timely, and in line with the charity’s financial policy. Review financial reports presented by CEO before discussing at the Finance Committee meeting and presenting a summary report to the trustees
- Present financial updates to the Board of Trustees, highlighting any concerns or issues that need attention.
4. Audit and Compliance
- Monitor cash flow, income, and expenditure, ensuring that the charity remains financially solvent and sustainable.
- Oversee Quick Books access Treasurer has administrator level access and approves users and their access
- Oversee bank reconciliationsCEO completes reconciliation after end of month and informs Treasurer for their sign off
- Oversee the payroll process to ensure staff payments, PAYE and pension are processed and reported as required CEO will report by exception as payments generally do not change save for contract or pay change, minimal overtime. Treasurer has access to BrightPay and TPT Pension portal and can view any documents there.
- Oversee the annual audit process, liaising with external auditors when required and ensuring the charity’s financial statements are audited in a timely and accurate manner. A shared mailbox is used for all audit communications to keep Finance Committee in loop of any queries. Any meeting with auditor, Treasurer to attend.
- Review the audited financial statements for accuracy and recommend their approval to the Board at the Annual General Meeting. Draw attention to important points in an easily understandable way and sign off when audit is completed by the external auditors
- Ensure compliance with all relevant laws and regulations, including charity law, tax law, and Charity SORP financial reporting standards, including charity accounts being kept up to date on Charities Commission website. Review and keep up to date with Charity SORP requirements
5. Risk Management
- Identify financial risks and develop strategies to mitigate them.Review Financial risks on risk register quarterly and as part of finance sub committee
- Ensure that the charity has appropriate insurance and other safeguards in place to protect its assets. Review insurance requirements with the CEO a month before renewal date to ensure we have adequate cover in place and to obtain alternative quotes if appropriate
- Advise the Board on the management of financial risks and any significant financial challenges facing the charity.
- Review any substantial or complex grant terms
6. Fundraising and Income Generation
- Input into and provide financial oversight of fundraising activities and income generation strategies, ensuring they align with the charity’s financial goals. Input into and review fundraising strategy and review effectiveness on quarterly basis
- Advise on the viability of fundraising campaigns and the allocation of resources to maximise financial returns.
- Assist in ensuring that fundraising activities comply with legal and regulatory requirements.
7. Financial Strategy and Sustainability
- Contribute to the long-term financial strategy of the charity, helping to ensure its financial sustainability.
- Ensure the charity has an appropriate reserves policy Review reserves policy and reserves calculation annually
- Advise on diversification of income streams and opportunities to strengthen the charity’s financial position. Review income streams quarterly to highlight opportunities or risks e.g. individual / corporate / grants
- Help develop investment strategies and manage assets in line with the charity’s financial objectives, legal responsibilities and values. Review bank interest rates annually. CEO to notify on changes to interest rates or bank charges as received
8. Chair the Finance Sub-Committee
- Act as the Chair of the Finance Sub-Committee, leading agenda, discussions and decision-making on financial matters. A pre-meeting with the CEO and treasurer is required so fully informed in advance of committee meeting.
- Ensure that the Finance Sub-Committee operates effectively, reporting regularly to the full Board.

What is a Branch Chair?
There are SSAFA branches throughout the UK and overseas. Many are further divided into local areas called divisions. Each branch has a Chair to oversee all aspects of the branch. Ultimately accountable to the Chair of the Board of Trustees, through the National Chairman your role is to ensure that the branch is running in line with SSAFA’s Royal Charter Rules, Regulations, and policies. Also, to ensure that clients and volunteers are safe, all services provided are appropriate and effective and that the branch is financially sound. You will be the public face of SSAFA in your branch area.
Why do we need you?
We’ve been supporting the Armed Forces community since 1885. Our clients come from all backgrounds and age groups and may have served in WW2 or in a more recent conflict like the Falklands or Afghanistan. More people than ever are contacting SSAFA for financial, practical and emotional support. To do this we need local branches and volunteers who can coordinate people, ensure the local population know about SSAFA and keep things running smoothly behind the scenes.
Our branches support local volunteers to deliver services to veterans, serving personnel and their families. Some branches are divided into smaller divisions to ensure the best local service delivery. Each branch has a team of volunteer caseworkers, support volunteers, executive roles, and fundraisers.
When would you be needed and where would you be based?
This role is about leadership, coordination, and administration. As part of your local branch, you might have access to an office, but many volunteers are based at home. The role requires an ongoing time commitment, usually about 2-3 days per month. In addition, you would need to organise and attend regular meetings throughout the year.
What would you be doing?
- Providing leadership to the Branch and ensuring that all activities comply with SSAFA regulations both directly, and through the Branch Secretary, other Branch Officers, and Divisional Officers.
- Providing support and guidance to volunteers in office holder roles, and support with recruitment of volunteers into these positions to ensure the sustainability of the branch.
- Ensuring the financial integrity of the Branch, including the appointment of Treasurers and a local fundraising programme to meet branch running costs.
- Ensuring that all data is processed and held in accordance with SSAFA’s data management policies.
- Monitoring volunteer numbers against the demand for support and working with other volunteers, regional and central office staff to attract and recruit new volunteers as required.
- Ensuring that all volunteers are recruited, inducted, supported, and managed in line with SSAFA policies, such as the Volunteering Policy, Volunteer Code of Conduct, Data Protection Policy, and Safeguarding Policy.
- Building relationships with regional and central office staff, local voluntary organisations and, if applicable, SSAFA Service committees, local military establishments, prisons etc.
- Overseeing an appropriate programme of awareness raising so that potential clients, volunteers, and supporters know how to contact the branch.
- Providing timely reports and information to SSAFA’s Central Office
- Overseeing a programme of meetings including an AGM, branch meetings, committee meetings, training etc.
- Supporting any salaried branch staff and ensuring that their line management arrangements are working appropriately.
- Resolve any complaints that are suitable for local resolution in accordance with SSAFA’s Complaints Policy and procedures, referring upwards any that are not suitable for local resolution.
The remit of this role may change over the next 12-18 months depending on the outcome of a trial currently being undertaken.

- Volunteers will be covered by SSAFAs Public Liability Insurance whilst carrying out the role.
What are we looking for?
- Friendly and approachable people of any age (18+) with some experience of coordinating people and admin
- Willingness and ability to lead and manage a team of volunteers.
- Respectful and non-judgemental approach with beneficiaries, their family, other agencies and SSAFA colleagues
- Willingness and ability to learn basic digital skills. Ability to send and receive emails – you will receive your own SSAFA email address which you will be required to use when exercising your role.

The Support Team at The Brain Tumour Charity are aiming to address the clear gap in emotional support available to those affected by a brain tumour diagnosis, by expanding their counselling service. How can you help?
As a Counselling Assessment Volunteer for this service, you will be the first point of call for new clients entering in to the service. This role will require you to talk to a wide range of people - from those newly diagnosed, to others at end of life and also bereaved. As a Counselling Assessment Volunteer, you will be required to:
- Carry out pre-booked counselling assessments with clients who have self-referred themselves into the counselling service
- Gather information through the assessment about the client’s circumstances, explore their needs, explain how the service can help and discuss with them whether the counselling service is suitable
- Confidently follow our safeguarding process, to ensure risk is assessed and appropriate steps are taken to safeguard each client’s well-being
- Observe confidentiality in line with our organisational policy
- Keep accurate and appropriate records on our internal database
We’re looking for...
Someone who is empathetic and supportive in nature, and who is excited by the opportunity to bring this counselling service to the wider brain tumour community. You will also need:
- Experience in providing emotional support to others, perhaps through another role focusing on bereavement, mental health or life limiting illnesses
- Ideally have had previous training in counselling, mental health first aid, or other relevant course
- Ability to work autonomously
- Relevant IT skills in order to maintain appropriate and accurate records on our counselling database
- As this is a home-based role, you will need access to a telephone and computer that you are happy to use for this service

Time commitment

Practical considerations
You will receive a full induction to The Brain Tumour Charity and any specific training for the role, as well as ongoing direction from one of the team, who will be your key contact. We carry out references for all individuals who will be volunteering with us on a regular basis. Volunteers will be required to complete some internal training, data protection and disclosure documentation before commencing the role. Volunteers must be over 18. We may close applications early if we recieve a high number of applications for this role. What is a caseworker?
Caseworkers visit clients to work out what type of help they need, this might be funds for special equipment for someone with a disability, adaptions to a property so an older client can remain at home or funds for a rental deposit. Caseworkers also sign-post clients onto specialist local services for advice on benefits, housing, mental health, debt, finding work etc.

Volunteer Caseworkers are the lifeblood of SSAFA, supporting a growing number of people in need of financial, practical and emotional support. Clients come from all backgrounds and age groups and may have served in WW2 or in a more recent conflict like Iraq or Afghanistan. Our trained volunteers listen without judgement to assess and provide tailored support to help people navigate life in and beyond military service. We need you to join your local SSAFA team to help us achieve this.
When would you be needed and where would you be based?
The essential part of the role is visiting clients, so you will need access to a vehicle or another way to travel to meet clients at home or in a care home setting. Our volunteers are based at home with a yearly AGM invite.

Our trained volunteers listen without judgement to assess and provide tailored support to help people navigate life in and beyond military service. We need you to join your local SSAFA team to help us achieve this.
When would you be needed and where would you be based?
The essential part of the role is visiting clients, so you will need access to a vehicle or another way to travel to meet clients at home or in a care home setting. Our volunteers are based at home with a yearly AGM invite.

• Keeping in touch with your branch so they know your availability

After 18 years of proven local impact, Community Alcohol Partnerships (CAP) stands at an extraordinary inflexion point. What began as a pioneering pilot in 2007 has grown into the UK’s most effective approach to tackling underage drinking, with over 300 partnerships already established across England, Scotland and Wales. But our greatest achievements may still lie ahead.
Who we are
The numbers tell a compelling story. Across our network, we’ve achieved a 63% reduction in weekly drinking among under-18s, a 44% reduction in anti-social behaviour and 98% pass rates in Challenge 25 compliance tests following our training. We’ve surveyed over 42,000 young people, gathering evidence that has shaped policy and practice nationwide. Yet perhaps our most significant discovery came through groundbreaking research into the issue that remained stubbornly resistant to change: parental supply of alcohol to children.
While we celebrated success after success in reducing underage drinking through retailer training and youth engagement, one statistic troubled us. More than 6 in 10 children aged 11-15 who drink regularly still obtained their alcohol from their parents. Despite all our community interventions, this remained the single biggest driver of underage alcohol consumption.
That challenge led us to commission to conduct the most comprehensive review ever undertaken of why parents supply alcohol to their children and what interventions might change this behaviour. Parents aren’t acting from malice or ignorance alone – they’re driven by complex beliefs about protection, social norms, and misplaced confidence in their ability to teach “responsible drinking” to their children by allowing them to sample alcohol while their brains are still developing.
Armed with these insights, CAP secured unprecedented funding increases from our industry partners, who recognised that addressing parental supply could transform the landscape of underage drinking. Our annual income has doubled, our team has expanded significantly, and we’re now positioned to pilot evidence-based interventions that could change parental behaviour at scale.
This is where our story becomes your opportunity. CAP is transitioning from a programme with significant local impact to one with genuine national reach. Our analysis suggests we need to double our current coverage – establishing perhaps 250-300 additional partnerships in high-harm areas across the UK. We’re developing the first systematic campaign to tackle parental supply, with pilots planned across six locations that could lay the groundwork for national policy change and action.
We’ve also expanded our remit to support 18–25-year-olds, recognising that our work with under-18s creates a perfect foundation for promoting safer drinking cultures in universities and young adult communities. Projects like our Cardiff CAP’s groundbreaking work on alcohol-free student activities show the potential for reshaping social norms around alcohol throughout young adulthood.
About the roles
To realise this vision, we need new Board Directors who can provide both strategic wisdom and operational insight during our most ambitious period of growth. We’re particularly seeking individuals with deep expertise in
- Finance (ideally a qualified accountant)
- Marketing and public influence
- Government relations at local or national level
- Adolescent development or education
Experience in Scotland or Wales would be especially valuable as we prioritise expansion in these high-harm regions.
This isn’t a typical non-executive role. You’ll be helping to steer an organisation that’s pioneering new approaches to one of the UK’s most persistent public health and social challenges.
You’ll work alongside an independent chair in Derek Lewis, industry representatives who are committed to our mission, and fellow independent directors who bring diverse expertise to our governance.
The policy landscape has never been more receptive to evidence-based approaches to alcohol harm reduction. The Westminster and devolved governments increasingly recognise that traditional enforcement-only approaches have limitations, and our track record of delivering measurable impact through partnership working positions us perfectly to influence national policy.
More importantly, we have the research foundation, funding commitments, and operational capacity to achieve transformational change. Our pilots on parental supply interventions, if successful, could influence how the UK approaches underage drinking prevention for generations to come. Our expansion into high-harm areas could bring effective prevention to communities that have struggled with alcohol-related problems for decades.
The commitment is manageable but meaningful: five board meetings annually (two in-person near London Bridge, three virtual), occasional evening events, and informal advisory support to our small but dynamic executive team. Overall we expect the time commitment to be the equivalent of a day a month.
