Sense is a leading disability charity with extensive knowledge and expertise in delivering personalised, creative and flexible support for disabled people with complex needs. Our tailored approach ensures that every person is empowered to live fully at every stage of life.
About the role:
As a community champion volunteer you’ll be supporting Sense’s fundraising team, playing a vital role in helping Sense to raise funds and awareness to support people with complex disabilities.
You’ll engage with individuals, local businesses, and regional press to share our mission, organise events, and inspire others to take action. Whether you’re great at planning events, researching opportunities or connecting with your community, this role has something for you.
This is a flexible role, with the opportunity to volunteer either virtually or in your local community. We are looking for volunteers able to offer a minimum commitment of 2 hours per month.
We’re looking for people who are passionate about Sense’s work to support disabled people with complex needs and who have a calm, kind and friendly personality.
Please note that you will not be providing care for the people Sense supports as part of this role.
Due to the nature of the volunteer role, we cannot accept applications for anyone under the age of 18.
The four areas of the role:
As a Community Champion, you’ll have the opportunity to take part in a variety of activities, organised into four main role categories. You can choose to get involved in one or more of these areas, and we’ll discuss your preferences with you as part of the application process. Please note, we don’t expect volunteers to take on every area. Instead, we’ll focus on what interests you most and shape the role around your strengths and skills.
Event volunteer:
Support Sense’s Community Fundraising team by:
- Organising your own fundraising events in aid of Sense.
- Supporting and participating in fundraising events at your local Sense services, and shops.
- Supporting with fundraising admin, for example sourcing prizes for Sense fundraisers.
Skills needed:
- Creative, with fresh fundraising ideas and enthusiasm.
- Organised, with the ability help co-ordinate multiple aspects of an event.
Local public relations (PR) volunteer:
Boost Sense’s profile in your local community by:
- Writing content for local press releases.
- Building a network of local media contacts.
- Supporting regional output of national campaigns.
Skills needed:
- Strong written communication
- Able to follow branding and messaging guidelines.
- Self-motivated and proactive in seeking opportunities.
Fundraising researcher:
Help boost Sense’s regional income by researching available grants, partnerships and other local connections. Responsibilities include:
- Researching local grants and business partnerships.
- Researching networking events.
- Helping us to source prizes for Sense fundraising events.
Skills needed:
- Self-motivated, with the ability to work independently.
- Organised, ensuring new leads are accurately recorded and shared.
Community connector:
Act as an ambassador for Sense, attending events across your community to thank supporters, and forge new partnerships.
- Attending cheque presentations, thanking our supporters.
- Giving presentations about Sense to local schools and community groups.
- Engaging with local businesses and groups, to forge new relationships for Sense.
Skills needed:
- Strong communication skills and enjoys public speaking opportunities.
- Well-connected in their local area, and love engaging with people.

Being a trustee is a simple but highly impactful way to support your local squadron:

- Take part in decisions, especially financial and strategic matters
- Support events, networking, or community initiatives
Typical commitment: 8-12 hours per year.
Who we’re looking for
Trustees come from all walks of life. No military, youth work, or charity experience is required. Trustees actively participate in meetings and decisions – there’s no obligation to take on an elected role.
Eligibility:
- Must be 20 years or older.
- Must have lived in the UK for 3 or more years.
Useful skills (optional but welcomed):
- Finance, budgeting, or business management
- Fundraising or grant writing
- Event planning or project management
- Governance, committee, or leadership experience
- Local networks or community connections
We particularly welcome:
- Applicants from under-represented communities.
- Younger adults. Only 1% of trustees in the UK are under 30 (Charity Commission and Pro Bono Economics 2025), and we particularly encourage applications from people wanting to grow their skills while making a real impact.

- Fundraising Heroes - Whether it’s rallying local businesses, organising events, or getting creative with unique fundraising ideas, you’ll play a crucial role in keeping SSAFA’s support going strong.
- Administrators - Are you detail-oriented and love keeping things organised? Assist with branch and event administration, manage schedules and branch calendars, and ensure everything runs smoothly currently being undertaken.
The skills you need
- Be friendly and approachable.
- Confident to engage with the public, potential clients, volunteers and SSAFA colleagues face-to-face.
- Reliable attitude, staying connected with your Branch and/or Community Engagement Manager about your availability.
- Access to public transport or a car to get to events if necessary.
- Basic IT skills would be an advantage.

BRIGHTON MARATHON
We are delighted to be Charity Partner for the Brighton Marathon this year, and are looking forward to supporting the event and all of the wonderful participants, some of whom will be running on our behalf.
In order to support this event, we are looking for a small team of volunteers to help with a number of roles which will include
- Cheering on the runners, to create a supportive and engaging atmosphere

We’re part of the Royal Air Force Air Cadets, a national youth organisation empowering 12- to 20-year-olds through flying, adventure training, sports, and leadership development.
West Mercian Wing supports over 900 cadets across 27 squadrons in Herefordshire, Worcestershire, Shropshire, the Black Country, and Cyprus. Each squadron is supported by a committee of trustees who oversee governance, fundraising, and community engagement, helping ensure incredible opportunities for young people.
What’s involved
Being a trustee is a simple but highly impactful way to support your local squadron:
- Attend quarterly meetings (around two hours each)
- Discuss finances, fundraising, priorities, and squadron activities
- Take part in decisions, especially financial and strategic matters
- Support events, networking, or community initiatives
Typical commitment: 8-12 hours per year.
Who we’re looking for
Trustees come from all walks of life. No military, youth work, or charity experience is required. Trustees actively participate in meetings and decisions – there’s no obligation to take on an elected role.
Eligibility:
- Must be 20 years or older.
- Must have lived in the UK for 3 or more years.
Useful skills (optional but welcomed):
- Finance, budgeting, or business management
- Fundraising or grant writing
- Event planning or project management
- Governance, committee, or leadership experience

ROLDA UK are now seeking Volunteer Community Outreach Officer to help reach out to local volunteers, facilitate small activities in the community, and raise awareness of our charity's mission to rescue and rehabilitate stray and abandoned animals.
Your Role

Help ROLDA UK build a local presence within your community by networking and growing local volunteers who are interested in animal welfare and ask them to join you.

Create new opportunities within your local community and grow a network of volunteers who can get involved in local fundraising events like charity walks, bake sales, and helping to run local stalls etc.

Inspire and encourage local volunteers to join your community group, collaborate, share ideas, and plan effective activities.

Help raise awareness about ROLDA UK within your community by recruiting for volunteers to join your hub and help build local networks.

Support your local community hub by organising regular online and in-person gatherings. Attend community events to discuss ROLDA UK’s work and encourage others to support the cause.
