Mission volunteer roles

Unify is building a social impact platform that helps get direct, practical support to people who need it most — with dignity, transparency, and real-world usability at the core.

We’re looking for a Senior Developer / Tech Lead (Volunteer) to guide the build, unblock the team, and help us ship a solid, scalable product. This is a light commitment (2–5 hours per week), but a high-leverage role: you’ll be working closely alongside the founders and our Product Manager.

What you’ll do (2–5 hrs/week)

• Lead engineering direction: keep the build clean, pragmatic, and shippable.

• Review PRs and raise code quality (architecture, security, performance, maintainability).

• Help prioritise technical work with the founders + Product Manager.

• Support and mentor a small volunteer/dev team (light-touch guidance, not heavy management).

• Set up or improve engineering foundations (CI/CD, environments, observability, release process).

• Identify risk early (security, data handling, scalability) and propose solutions.

What we’re looking for

• Senior-level software engineering experience (ideally with leading small teams or acting as tech lead).

• Strong product sense: you can balance “build it right” with “ship it”.

• Comfortable in ambiguous, early-stage environments.

• Solid judgement around security, data handling, and best practices.

• A collaborative communicator who can keep things calm and moving.

Nice to have (not required)

• Experience with marketplaces, payments, identity/verification flows, or credit/voucher systems.

• Experience setting up CI/CD, testing strategy, and deployment pipelines for MERN apps.

• Previous work in startups, charities, civic tech, or social impact.

Obuyisi bw’Omu Initiative empowers underserved communities in Uganda—particularly women, youth, and children—through grassroots action, advocacy, and partnerships. It addresses key challenges including limited mental health support, poor water and sanitation, barriers to quality education, and the impacts of climate change. Programs create safe spaces for mental health awareness, improve clean water access and hygiene, and provide educational resources and mentorship to promote inclusive learning. As a Fundraising Specialist you will be in charge of the following tasks :

Fundraising Strategy Development:
· Collaborate with the team to understand our core programs, budget needs, and funding gaps.
· Research and help develop a comprehensive fundraising plan that identifies the most promising income streams (grants, corporate sponsorships, individual donations, online campaigns).

Grant Research & Writing:
· Proactively research and identify grant opportunities from foundations, trusts, and bilateral/multilateral agencies whose priorities align with our mission in mental health, WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene), climate action, and girls' education in Uganda.
· Draft compelling grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and concept notes, working with the team to gather necessary data and impact stories.
· Help manage a grants calendar to track deadlines and reporting requirements.

Individual Giving & Crowdfunding:
· Support the development and launch of online crowdfunding campaigns.
· Help brainstorm and implement creative ways to engage and grow a base of individual monthly donors.
· Assist in drafting compelling fundraising appeals (e.g., for email newsletters, social media) in collaboration with the Communications and Digital Marketing volunteers.

Partnership Development:
· Research and help build a pipeline of potential corporate partners, foundations, and philanthropic networks.
· Assist in drafting sponsorship packages and partnership proposals that offer clear value to potential supporters.

Donor Communication & Stewardship:
· Help create materials to thank and update donors on the impact of their contributions (e.g., impact reports, thank-you emails).
· Support efforts to create and maintain strong, long-term relationships with funders.

Role Summary.

Roots Academy is seeking enthusiastic and dedicated volunteers to join our team as Event Organizers in Canada. In this role, you will assist in planning, coordinating, and executing Islamic educational and community events, ensuring smooth operations and a meaningful experience for attendees. This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to a growing organization while developing leadership and organizational skills.

Key tasks

• Assist in the planning and logistics of events (e.g., seminars, workshops, fundraising dinners, and youth programs).

• Help with on-the-day event setup, registration, and coordination to ensure a seamless experience.

• Promote events through social media, flyers, and community outreach to maximize attendance.

• Engage with attendees, speakers, and volunteers to foster a welcoming and beneficial environment.

About The Role

Welcome Hosts help us create a great first impression. They’re on hand to provide a warm welcome and help visitors make the most of their day. Whether it’s pointing visitors in the right direction or letting them know what’s on today you will be encouraging our visitors to make the most of their visit to Slimbridge centre, and to understand our work to save wetlands for wildlife and people.

At WWT we believe that the best way for people to understand and connect to wetlands is to experience them, so we bring awe-inspiring nature up close and let it do the talking. At Slimbridge Wetland Centre visitors can explore unique wetland habitats and the amazing array of birds, mammals and amphibians that inhabit them. Our volunteers help to welcome and inspire visitors, and look after our unique habitats and heritage. Volunteers are an essential part of the WWT team. You'll get a warm welcome, including information on training, equipment and anything else you need.

• Administrators - Are you detail-oriented and love keeping things organised? Assist with branch and event administration, manage schedules and branch calendars, and ensure everything runs smoothly currently being undertaken.

Activities and Events Volunteer

About The Role

As an Activities and Events volunteer, you will play a vital role in assisting staff leading a variety of fun, interactive and nature-based activities aimed at family groups, especially children, and also helping with aspects of our adult-friendly walks and talk programme that runs throughout the year. 

Volunteers are an essential part of the WWT team. You’ll get a warm welcome, including information on training, equipment and anything else you need. 
 
Please note that some of our roles are very popular so we may close applications before the advertised closing date. Make sure you apply early to avoid disapointment.
