At Roots Academy, we’ve built a learning experience that’s changing the lives of the ummah’s future leaders, change-makers and visionaries. 

Our vision is enabling university students to live God-centred lives, so we teach structured, engaging and transformative face-to-face foundational Islamic education to over 2000 students across the UK, Canada, USA and Ireland. 

We are currently recruiting 4 site managers across the UK - to cover London, England, Wales and Scotland. 

Role Summary 

Site managers are responsible for establishing partnerships with University Muslim Student Associations (MSAs) and Islamic Societies (ISocs),  and maintaining positive relationships with these sites. 

Key tasks 

• Actively establish and maintain positive relationships with the MSA/ISoc committees and Student Ambassadors to ensure an exceptional onsite experience for students and promote retention of sites 

• Be responsible for overseeing all onsite logistics through liaison with the Student Ambassador to ensure that onsite logistics including advertising of the class and other required tasks are taken care of by the MSA/ISoc 

• Be the point of contact for ISocs: answer questions from the MSA/ ISoc committees and Student Ambassadors to the best of your ability and engage them on a 1-1 basis, listen to their needs and concerns and addressing these accordingly 

• Collect ideas and best-practices from how different MSAs/ISocs are delivering their class 

• Participate in onboarding current and new sites prior to the start of the academic year 

• Be the point of contact internally for any queries or updates related to assigned MSAs/ISocs 

What we’re looking for 

• An understanding of the Muslim university scene and how university MSAs/ISocs operate. 

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

• Ability and keenness to make and maintain genuine connections with people. 

• Ability to travel regionally for face-to-face meetings with MSA/ISoc committees, at least once per semester.

Role Summary:

The Fundraising Lead for Roots Academy Canada will be responsible for developing and executing fundraising strategies to support the expansion of Roots Academy’s programs.

This role is critical in ensuring that Roots Academy has the financial resources needed to deliver high-quality Islamic education to communities around the world.

The ideal candidate will be passionate about the mission of Roots Academy, skilled in engaging donors and securing funding through various channels, and able to build lasting relationships with key stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

Community Engagement:

• Develop and implement a dynamic fundraising plan that includes a variety of strategies tailored to Roots Academy’s target audiences, including university MSAs, mosques, and Islamic organisations.

• Identify and build partnerships with key community organisations, MSAs, and Islamic centres to create collaborative fundraising opportunities.

• Stay adaptable to emerging opportunities for funding, leveraging both traditional and innovative approaches to engage and attract potential donors.

Relationship Building:

• Actively engage with MSAs, Islamic centres, and community organisations to establish Roots Academy as a cause worth supporting and to cultivate long-term donor relationships.

• Collaborate with MSAs and community partners to organise local fundraising events, campaigns, and other initiatives that resonate with the community.

• Serve as a liaison between Roots Academy and these partner organisations to foster a spirit of collaboration and mutual support.

• Work closely with MSAs and community organisations to retain donors by creating meaningful engagement opportunities and maintaining a sense of involvement with Roots Academy’s mission.

Campaign Management:

• Lead and coordinate diverse fundraising campaigns, including online initiatives, MSA-driven campaigns, and in-person events like benefit dinners and community gatherings.

• Work with Roots Academy’s marketing team to create campaign materials and digital content, ensuring that each initiative is tailored to engage and inspire potential donors.

• Coordinate and oversee logistics for events, ensuring a smooth and impactful experience for all participants and maximising fundraising outcomes.

Tracking and Reporting:

• Maintain accurate records of fundraising activities, donor interactions, and campaign outcomes to ensure transparency and accountability.

• Provide regular reports to the leadership team on fundraising efforts, adapting strategies as needed based on campaign performance and community feedback.

• Use data to evaluate the effectiveness of different fundraising approaches, enabling continuous improvement in future efforts.

Skills and Qualifications:

• Fundraising Experience: Proven experience in developing and executing successful fundraising strategies, particularly for nonprofit organisations, educational initiatives, or Islamic institutions.

• Community-Oriented: A deep understanding of the Muslim community in Canada, especially in relation to university students and local mosques.

• Relationship Building: Proven experience in building and maintaining meaningful relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders.

• Project Management: Strong organisational skills with the ability to support program delivery efficiently.

• Communication: Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences, from students to community leaders.

• Commitment to Ihsaan: This role requires someone who strives to deliver their responsibilities with ihsaan.

• Dedication to Service: A heart for khidma (service), and a desire to make a positive impact on the lives of young Muslims through education.

The Event Lead will lead the strategy, design, and execution of all events, ensuring they align with the organization’s goals and deliver memorable experiences. This role oversees the end-to-end event planning process, including budgeting, logistics, vendor management, and team coordination. As the driving force behind the organization’s events, the Event Lead will ensure high standards of creativity, efficiency, and impact while fostering strong relationships with stakeholders, partners, and vendors.

Key Responsibilities:

• Strategic Event Planning:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive event strategy that aligns with organizational goals and enhances brand visibility.

  • Identify event opportunities, including conferences, product launches, fundraisers, and internal engagements, to achieve strategic objectives.

• Event Design & Execution:

  • Lead the planning and execution of all events, ensuring seamless logistics, creative concepts, and high-quality delivery.

  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure event themes, messaging, and objectives are aligned with organizational priorities.

• Budget Management:

  • Manage event budgets, ensuring cost efficiency without compromising quality.

  • Track expenses, negotiate vendor contracts, and identify opportunities for cost savings.

• Vendor & Stakeholder Management:

  • Build and maintain relationships with vendors, suppliers, venues, and partners to ensure successful event execution.

  • Negotiate contracts and manage vendor performance to meet quality standards and timelines.

• Team Leadership:

  • Lead, mentor, and develop the event planning team to achieve excellence in execution.

  • Foster a collaborative and high-performing environment, ensuring clear communication and accountability.

• Event Marketing & Promotion:

  • Collaborate with marketing and communications teams to promote events, including developing promotional materials, social media campaigns, and press outreach.

  • Ensure a strong event presence across digital and physical platforms to maximize attendance and engagement.

• Evaluation & Continuous Improvement:

  • Measure event success through post-event reporting, feedback collection, and KPIs.

  • Use insights to refine event planning processes and improve future events.

Skills and Qualifications:

Al Naasih is a 1‑to‑1 mentoring programme established by Hidayah in March 2020. It seeks to support queer Muslims struggling to reconcile their faith and identity. Mentors are trained in relevant skills (emotional intelligence, active listening, managing relationships, etc.) and paired with mentees to help them achieve personal goals. Within this role you will:

· Provide empathetic, non-judgemental support for mentees working through challenges related to faith, identity and wellbeing

· Help mentees set and achieve personal goals

· Act as a positive role model and safe space

· Assist mentees in exploring reconciling their faith with their LGBTQ+ identity, supporting spiritual, emotional, and practical wellbeing

Please this role is UK based and online/virtual.

What are the key responsibilities of this role?

This role will have the following duties, but are not limited to:

· Build a trusting and respectful relationship with mentee

· Be in regular contact: at least once per month, according to what works best)

· Help mentees identify goals, hurdles, and strategies to work towards those goals

· Listen actively and empathetically; offer guidance rather than prescribing solutions

· Maintain confidentiality, boundaries, and ethical conduct

· Attend required training sessions (1‑on‑1) to develop mentoring skills (emotional intelligence, active listening, relationship management, etc.)

· Reflect on own practice; be open to feedback and possibly supervision / check‑ins

What do we expect from an Al Naasih Mentor?

Please note that you must agree with and fit the criteria below to be eligible to volunteer in this role:

Essential:

· Must be a queer Muslim

· Strong empathy, patience, and trustworthiness

· Comfortable discussing issues around faith and sexuality / identity

· Good communication skills; active listening; emotional intelligence

· Ability to set and maintain healthy boundaries

· Reliability and consistency (making time for regular sessions)

· Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding mentee’s personal information

·Ability to recognise limits of the mentoring role (e.g. not a therapist / counsellor) and refer on where needed

· Able to respect the mentee’s autonomy and pace

Desirable:

· Prior experience of mentoring, coaching, or peer‑support work

· Some understanding of LGBTQ+ issues within Muslim communities

This role will report to the Al Naasih Programme Coordinator or designated lead.

 

How much commitment is required?

This is a voluntary role with flexible hours subject to the agreement between you and your mentee. However, the following are vital to the success of this role:

· Minimum once per month meetings (virtual) with mentee

· Time needed to prepare, reflect, and possibly attend training or support / supervision meetings

· Duration per mentee: to be mutually agreed, depending on goals and needs

· Up to three mentees once comfortable with the role

Role Summary

As the Fundraising Coordinator, you will be responsible for helping create and implementing strategies to fundraise from both existing and new sources (individuals, mosques, grants etc.) with the aim of securing the long-term financial stability of Roots Academy.

Key tasks

Fundraising Planning:

• Develop and execute comprehensive fundraising plans to achieve income goals.
• Identify potential new funding sources and opportunities for income generation.

Campaign Management:

• Plan and oversee fundraising campaigns and events, including direct appeals, online campaigns, and fundraising events at mosques.
• Coordinate with marketing and communications teams to develop compelling fundraising material.

Proposal Development:

• Research trusts, foundations and corporations for grant opportunities.
• Work with the team to develop proposals, supporting with grant writing when needed.

Budget Oversight:

• Work closely with the finance team to monitor fundraising budgets, expenditure, and financial projections.

Donor Relations:

• Support with Donor Communications in activities related to donor relationship management and stewardship.

What we’re looking for

• Experience in organising fundraising campaigns and events, including digital fundraising strategies
• Strong understanding of fundraising principles and techniques, including donor cultivation
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate the organisation’s mission and impact to diverse audiences
• Strategic thinker with the ability to develop and execute effective fundraising plans
• Strong understanding of Islam and the Muslim Community

Key tasks

• Edit short-form and long-form video content for platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and other digital channels.
• Apply consistent pacing, subtitles, branding, and visual style in line with Roots Academy guidelines.
• Collaborate closely with content leads, instructors, and the marketing team to deliver videos aligned with campaign goals.
• Manage feedback, revisions, and version control efficiently.
• Organise and maintain video assets and project files in shared drives.

What we’re looking for

• Passion for Islamic education and contributing to the development of young Muslims.
• Strong video editing skills using tools such as Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, DaVinci Resolve, or equivalent.
• An eye for storytelling, pacing, and visual clarity — especially for short-form social content.
• Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple edits at once.
• Clear communication and openness to feedback.

Roots Academy is seeking enthusiastic and dedicated volunteers to join our team as Event Organizers in Canada. In this role, you will assist in planning, coordinating, and executing Islamic educational and community events, ensuring smooth operations and a meaningful experience for attendees. This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to a growing organization while developing leadership and organizational skills.

Key tasks

• Assist in the planning and logistics of events (e.g., seminars, workshops, fundraising dinners, and youth programs).

• Help with on-the-day event setup, registration, and coordination to ensure a seamless experience.

• Promote events through social media, flyers, and community outreach to maximize attendance.

• Engage with attendees, speakers, and volunteers to foster a welcoming and beneficial environment.

• Attend weekly/bi-weekly team meetings to discuss event progress, updates, and strategies.

• Provide post-event feedback and suggestions for improvement.

What we’re looking for

• Passion for Islamic education and community service.

• Strong organizational and communication skills.

• Ability to work well in a team and take initiative.

• Availability to assist during events (some evenings/weekends may be required).

• Commitment to attending regular team meetings (weekly/bi-weekly).

• Previous event coordination experience is a plus but not mandatory.

We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Email Marketing Officer to support the planning and delivery of email campaigns that engage and inspire our audience. You will be responsible for creating, scheduling, and optimising emails to strengthen communication with students, parents, and supporters. This is an exciting opportunity to shape the email marketing efforts of a growing international education platform.

Key tasks

• Design, build, and schedule email campaigns using email marketing tools.

• Manage audience segmentation and ensure email lists are accurate and up to date.

• Collaborate with copywriters and designers to deliver engaging, on-brand email content.

• Conduct A/B tests to improve open rates, click-through rates, and overall performance.

• Monitor and report on email campaign performance, suggesting improvements.

• Ensure all email content complies with data protection and GDPR guidelines.

What we’re looking for

• Passion for Islamic education and the development of young Muslims.

• Some experience or training in email marketing platforms (such as Mailerlite or similar).

• Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.

• Good understanding of email marketing best practices (design, copy, segmentation, scheduling).

• Ability to work collaboratively with writers, designers, and marketers.

• Proactive, self-motivated, and results-driven.

Key Tasks

• Plan, film, and capture high-quality video content for social media, campaigns, events, interviews, and educational content.
• Work collaboratively with content leads, marketers, and editors to deliver video assets aligned with campaign goals.
• Set up and manage camera, audio, and lighting equipment as needed for shoots.
• Ensure all footage is captured in line with Roots Academy's visual style and brand guidelines.
• Organise, label, and maintain video files and footage libraries in shared drives.
• Support with basic shot planning, scene composition, and creative direction where needed.

What we're looking for:

• Passion for Islamic education and contributing to the development of young Muslims.
• Strong videography skills with experience using cameras, audio equipment, and lighting setups.
• A good eye for composition, storytelling, and visual detail.
• Ability to work independently and manage shoots efficiently.
• Strong communication skills and openness to feedback.
• Ability to meet deadlines and handle multiple projects at once.

Crisis of Faith: 1 in 4 young Muslims are leaving the religion due to various factors, primarily the pervasive anti-religious content and temptations they encounter online and offline.

Roots Academy exists to bridge this gap by providing a structured and transformative Islamic education that speaks directly to the needs and challenges of young Muslims today, delivered in an engaging and accessible form that removes barriers to access and provokes thought and action.

Role Summary.

As a QA Reviewer at Roots Academy, you'll work closely with Regional Leads and the QA team to help maintain and raise the quality of teaching across our programmes. Your role is to support our instructors by regularly observing lessons, offering constructive feedback, and encouraging their continued growth and development.

Your input will help ensure that students benefit from lessons that are clear, engaging, and rooted in sound educational practice.

Key tasks

· Observe lessons via site visits or submitted video recordings throughout the semester.

· Use standardised forms to assess lesson quality and highlight key strengths and areas that could be improved.

· Offer honest and practical feedback, using real examples to guide instructors toward better practice.

· Work alongside Regional Leads to deliver feedback at set points in the semester and support instructor development conversations.

· Attend feedback meetings and take notes to track progress and follow-up actions.

· Recommend helpful activities for instructors, such as shadowing experienced colleagues, team teaching, or reviewing their own lessons.

· Keep track of instructors needing additional support by scheduling follow-up visits or reviewing new lesson recordings.

· Make sure feedback is received, understood, and followed up with clear next steps.

· Raise any serious concerns or ongoing issues with the Regional Lead or relevant team members.

What we’re looking for

· Background in teaching, mentoring, or classroom observation.

· A supportive but honest approach to giving feedback.

· Good understanding of what makes a lesson effective and engaging.

· Confident communicator with good organisation skills.

· Able to work both independently and as part of a wider team.

· Respectful of diverse backgrounds and familiar with Islamic learning settings.

Role Summary

The People Operations Coordinator supports the day-to-day administration of the People & Culture function, ensuring smooth onboarding, accurate record-keeping, and a positive volunteer experience. This role plays a key part in maintaining organized people operations while also supporting volunteer engagement and appreciation initiatives.

Key tasks

• Coordinate and schedule onboarding sessions in collaboration with the People Lead
• Maintain accurate records by tracking volunteer training completion and participation
• Upload, organize, and manage personnel documentation within Roots’ Google Drive in accordance with confidentiality and data-handling standards
• Support volunteer engagement by planning and organizing logistics for volunteer appreciation events
• Assist with coordination, communication, and follow-up related to recognition initiatives

What we’re looking for

• Interest or experience in human resources, people operations, administration, or volunteer coordination
• Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks
• Clear and professional written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to handle sensitive information with professionalism and confidentiality
• Alignment with the organization’s mission, values, and community-focused approach

As an Email Marketing Copywriter, you will be responsible for writing compelling email campaigns that inspire action, build relationships, and support Roots Academy's programs and initiatives.

Key Tasks

• Write high-converting email campaigns for launches, nurturing sequences, and
• announcements.
• Craft subject lines and hooks that improve open rates and engagement.
• Collaborate with the marketing team to align email messaging with campaign goals.
• Segment messaging based on audience needs and stages of the journey.
• Review performance metrics and iterate on copy to improve results.

What we're looking for:

• Passion for Islamic education and contributing to the development of young Muslims.
• Strong copywriting skills with a focus on persuasion and storytelling.
• Understanding of email marketing principles such as funnels, segmentation, and calls to action.
• Ability to write in a tone that is engaging, authentic, and aligned with Roots Academy's voice.
• Ability to meet deadlines and adapt based on feedback.

The Talent Acquisition Specialist is responsible for attracting, screening, and supporting the selection of qualified volunteers and team members who align with the organization’s mission and values. This role focuses on building strong recruitment pipelines through strategic outreach, managing initial candidate evaluations, and supporting the hiring process to ensure the organization continues to grow with passionate and capable people who truly believe in the mission and vision of Roots Academy

Key tasks

• Lead volunteer recruitment efforts by sourcing, attracting, and engaging qualified candidates aligned with organizational values and needs
• Identify and develop strategic outreach channels by researching and recommending platforms, communities, and locations to advertise open positions
• Conduct initial resume screenings and candidate evaluations to assess qualifications, experience, and role fit prior to advancing applicants to interview stages

What we’re looking for

• Interest or experience in recruitment, human resources, or talent acquisition
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage candidates professionally and respectfully
• Ability to assess basic qualifications and role alignment
